  1. Ya know, thinking about it? There is a better love story in Night Vale than Cecil and Carlos.
  2. Do you think you'll Return when you die? Wanna find out?
  3. Unconnected to anything: I'm picturing cards featuring every pairing Shallan could be involved in, under the banner "Happy Veilentines Day". I feel terrible.
  4. How long until there is a thread in the General Discussion forum talking about chocolate?
  5. Quick update. I'm off work tomorrow (so far) so I'll try and get to posting. Dalles is overdue. ...so us Salem, because I can not figure out what to do with Sentry. Sorry.
  6. ...huh. Can't figure out why I never replied to this. Anyhow. I must confess to being annoyed. You used a "Learning about humans" skit and didn't involve Lyra Heartstrings? Besides the shame of ignoring Best Pony, that's the kind of fanon she's known for. Tsk tsk, disappointment is maximum. Snark aside... I must admit, my eyes glazed over slightly. I have no idea what the difference between a chemise and a petticoat is, despite semi-planning a fantasy story based around clothing. Fashion Horse would be disappointed in me, and you should be too. The costume itself though? It looks neat, and makes me kind of curious. I figure adapting human characters is somewhat easy; the Doctor has set fashions for each incarnation, for example, so you know what you're aiming for, design wise. How did you settle on this look for Kaymyth Sparkle though? Obviously, Twilight doesn't wear clothes often on the show, and your Kaymyth design doesn't seem to match any of the dresses she does wear. Is it just a case of designing something similar to the character?
  7. I suspect I know the answer but...what does flex mean in this context? I'm on super well versed in stuff, but I've never seen that term used before.
  8. You mean Mazes and Monsters, staring Tom Hanks as either the dumbest, or most IC, roleplayer either? (Most IC assuming he was playing his character as outrageously dumb. Seriously, who sees a glint of something at the bottom of a pit, assumes treasure and jumps down after it?)
  9. Stunningly ignorant question, I'm sure, but..what is the difference between different seasons of Writing Excuses? Are they themed around particular themes or genres? Would you recommend starting way from the beginning, or just jumping in with the latest episodes?
  10. To be fair, a bad Zelda still tends to be better than a good 80% of games out there. Heck, I'd say that Zelda is one of the most consistent franchises in tends of quality. Aside from the CD-I games, has there really been any Zelda games that have bombed?
  11. I never actually finished Twilight Princess. Or even played it that much. Despite the awesomely evocative title, it just never stood out to me the way Ocarina, Majora and Wind Water did.
  12. Ah. Yeah, there is a side quest involving the cows at the Romani Ranch being abducted by aliens. ...well, looking at the wiki, they are referred to as 'They' in the game, and look like ghosts. But between the abductions, I think they are based upon aliens. Also if you don't stop them, Romani is left disoriented and near-comatose. I assumed she got abducted too, though maybe I made that part up? Been a while since I played it myself.
  13. Geralt of Rivia may or may not be my mental template for Vasher. If we're talking low budget titles, I can make image a version of Bubble Bobble using spheres and Radiant glyphs. Large budget... Mistborn seems like the obvious choice. I love Warbreaker, and I think it works great as a Sword and Sorcery story, but I don't know if Awakening would lend itself to good game play. (Excellent visuals. But...dunno if it would work as a hack and slash) Hmm. Actually... Pokemon Snap or No Man's Sky type game, with the players crossing Roshar to collect information on Spren?
  14. Honestly, shardplate being crystallised stormlight has been my go to theory for a while now. ...but I really need to reread the books to find actual evidence supporting it.
  15. Honestly, I always picture Dalinar as Edward James Olmos. More specifically, I picture him as commander Adama; the uniforms from Galactica are kind of my default for the Alethkar.
  16. Ya know, this is something I do wonder about when it comes to fiction. Is it better to call out stuff and show it is there, or better not to mention it at all and normalise it by not bringing attention to it. (One society I'm considering for my own stories might encourage polyamory, so I do wonder about how to portray that) I do agree with @maxal that Vorin gender roles means we need a bit more context. It seems like the fact that only women can read and write would encourage male/female marriages as the norm...which raises the implicit question of how male/male or female/female relationships would work. It might not be huge in the grand scheme, but it is a point I'm curious about. The Alethi are a warrior society, so would they regard two soldiers falling in love normal? What about two engineers? Do lighteyes and darkeyes have different opinions? After all, darkeye women wear gloves to cover their safehand since that's just more practical. Would that mean darkeyes are opposed to homosexual relationships since it causes problems where literacy is concerned, whereas lighteyes can just afford to hire scribes to compensate? Adding in Vorinism values makes it an even more complicated topic, which is why I'm curious how it's addressed. Though, the above is just for Vorinism. It might be that in Alethkar, homosexuality is viewed as strange or the kind of repressive thing you don't talk about, while other societies might be more open about it. We haven't spent enough time with other cultures to really judge that.
  17. I remember buying chocolate frogs when I was younger! Those were great. Also remember boxes of Bertiee Bots ever flavor beans, which were...less so.
  18. Maybe? I admit, I don't trust myself to create original fantasy races or make cool twists, so... I'm leaning towards them being humans, just being different? (Though I admit, I rather like the line 'he was short, only six foot tall.') Could be. Connecting dinosaurs to birds makes a sort of sense to me...but it's not the direction I want to go with this story, I think. (The story concept spawned from the fact that in any realistic setting, unicorns would be terrifying. A 600-pound warhorse with a sword strapped to it's head? That would be horrifying in a war)
  19. Do we have any Word of Brandon on Alethi/Rosharan views of homosexuality, bisexuality, or any other queer themes?
  20. But! But! I have issues regarding my appearance and my personality. I just...can't see anyone putting up with me?
  21. ... So despite saying that I've been considering online dating, I haven't really been able to summon the courage to take the plunge into the dating pool. Staying on dry, single island forever isn't so bad, right...?
  22. So your pet peeve is that modern phones aren't so good at zombie killin'? Okay, one of my pet peeves; not being able to sleep. It happens far too often.
  23. So...baseball Star Trek cap. Is that a DS9 reference, or an Enterprise reference?
  24. I admit, tempted to somehow include hippogriffs... But no. My thought was that...the water promotes nutrition. I'm kind of thinking of the Nile laying down silt. For the water...my thoughts that, it results in things becoming...bigger? That's the easiest way to put it, I suppose; it promotes growth, including bone growth, so animals which normally have antlers (elk) get extra nutrition to grow more prominent ones, which added bone growth results in other animals developing horns and antlers. So, for instance, instead of rabbits, you end up with Jackalope. I'm thinking...Maybe, as a result of that, in people, average height scales upwards. People who live closer to, or on, the water are generally healthier, live longer lives, and...as I say, are taller on average. I'm wondering if that should skew towards gigantism being more common or not, but...
