Why didn't the stormlight heal Kaladin's scars?
eveorjoy replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually I think he is a really good leader now. What does he still need to learn about leadership? -
Your "I Knew It" Moments for Words of Radiance?
eveorjoy replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
I knew Moash would get an shardblade Kaladin won. I knew Kaladin would walk on walls and fly in this book. I knew Shen was a spy. I knew about what happened with Jasnah. I knew Gaz was alive. I knew stormlight could heal shardblade injuries. I knew Kaladin would get his shardspear. -

I have several top threes. All the lists end in most favorite. Top 3 moments that made me laugh out loud drawing funny looks from anyone nearby. 3. Kaladin riding Dreamstorm 2. Shallan and Kaladin's shouting match outside the Alethi court. 1. Shallan, the Horneater princess, gets Kal's boots. Top 3 moments that brought me to almost tears. 3. Adolin telling Kaladin he believes him. 2. Pitt's apology to Kaladin. 1. Shallan remembering how her mother died. Best character defining moments. 3. Adolin killing Sadeas. (Adolin overall impressed me in this book. However this moment transformed him from a nice enough character to an intriguing complex character.) 2. Kaladin realizing that Elhokar is Dalinar's "Tien." 1. Shallan remembering how her mother died. (Yeah that was a big moment.) Best moments of a character changing a disadvantage into an advantage. 3. Shallan convincing the deserters to protect the caravan. 2. Dalinar taking his humiliation at the feast as a chance to talk about his visions with the Highprinces. 1. Taravangian convincing Szeth Kaladin has an honorblade. (It is fortunate he woke up with some brains that morning.) Best moments of sheer awesomeness. (Sadly Lift didn't make the cut.) 3. Kaladin's first flight. 2. Adolin and Kaladin's fight in the arena 1. Kaladin and Szeth's final fight. Best lines. 3. "“Difficult things,” Shallan growled. “Yes. I believe I told you. I’ve learned that lesson already. Thank you." 2. Oddly, Adolin smiled, seeming satisfied. “Ha! I knew there was something wrong with that man.” 1. “You sent him to the sky to die, assassin,” Kaladin said, Stormlight puffing from his lips, “but the sky and the winds are mine. I claim them, as I now claim your life.” Finally the moments I will most likely listen to the most from the audiobook while I wait for book 3. (I also bought the e-book, but I would read that as a whole as opposed to returning to certain sections.) 3. Lift and Rysn's interludes. (A tie) 2. Kaladin and Shallan in the Chasms. 1. Part 5. (All of Part 5 is awesome.)

Amaram stated before Dalinar, Bridge Four, High Prince Roion, and his attendances, along with any other soldiers in the area that he did kill his own men and enslaved Kaladin to cover it up. I don't think Amaram has a legal leg to stand on if he tries to claim that princedom. In fact Kaladin is lighteyed now. Elhokar could just give the princedom to him. No, I don't think he would actually do that, but it would be ironic. Regardless, I doubt Amaram will get the princedom. Not that it will matter. With the world falling apart the old social structures will only matter as much as they can help the survivors. Amaram seems more interested in restoring the church to that position in the coming chaos. Actually, I hope Amaram gets more powerful. I want him to get an honorblade. That way Kaladin can finally have a duel with him that would be fair, legal, and oh so satisfying. Amaram stated in a letter he wrote in his last scene that he was going to Urithiru. Back to the topic at hand.

It was murder and Adolin knew as much after he did it. However I don't think it was any worse than what Shallan did. In fact Shallan's was premeditated therefore she committed a higher crime than Adolin legally. Adolin committed a crime of passion. I think it would be considered 2nd degree murder. There were other ways Sadeas could have been dealt with. So Adolin is no Windrunner. There are ten other orders and this act might be enough to break him and allow investiture.

Brandon has said as much.

Why didn't the stormlight heal Kaladin's scars?

Actually he thinks about the scars several other times in WoR. -
Why didn't the stormlight heal Kaladin's scars?
eveorjoy replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
But he seems to have gotten over his slavery in WoR, or at least I hope he has. I had no issues with his darkness in WoR. He needed to deal with being enslaved and betrayed when a finally had control of his life again before moving on. I found his character arc quite compelling and believable in WoR. However he is a Knight Radiant now, or at least the closest thing to one on Roshar. Shouldn't he be past seeing himself as a slave? If so then why does he still have the scars? -
I don't think Adolin will be Odium champion. Moash has a greater chance of filling that role than Adolin. Really Adolin's actions are no worse than Shallan's save that Shallan took some planning in killing her father first. I really liked Adolin and Shallan in WoR. I agree with Kaladin that they fit. Now in three books I may feel differently. However, for now, I'd like them to end up together in the end and have lots of babies. I want Kaladin to have a few more options. If he ends up with Shallan in the end that is fine, but I would like him to play the field first.

Okay so if stormlight could give Renarin 20/20 vision, why didn't it heal Kaladin's scars? The characters seem to be wondering this question. I think Kaladin and Shallan each think about it at different points in the book. Does it have something to do with how Kaladin perceives himself? Do you think he will heal from them before the end of his overall story arc? Why do you think he still has them?

If Adolin were a real person, I would be very disappointed in his actions and feel sorry for him that he chose that path. But he is a character in a book, so, I like it. I'm glad the bore, Sadeas, is gone and I'm curious to see what direction this takes Adolin. I hope this breaks his soul enough for him to become a surgebinder. Wouldn't it be neat if he could revive that sword of his? And yes that would make most of the Kholins into surgebinders. Well Roshar is becoming a world where being a shardbearer ain't going to cut it anymore. A world with the Everstorm could use a family of surgebinders.

For Adolin the scene worked really well. Adolin became a far more interesting character in this book. Also, I think his first duel foreshadowed this darkness being inside him. This murder opens up many possibilities for Adolin as a character. Sadeas however is reduced to a one note bad guy who was put out of "our" misery. Of course this isn't the first time Brandon has done this. Sadeas came across as a far more interesting character in TWoKs. He was such a disappointment in WoR. Prehaps that made his death appropriate.

Was it really "murder"? Her brother was kind of killing the majority of Kaladin's squad at the time.

Precisely. So Kaladin makes himself and Elhokar look like fools because he demands to fight another shardbearer and accuses him of murder before the court. Dalinar still thought Kaladin was wrong even after that. But when Kaladin saves his sons and points out Amaram did not, Dalinar began to think, maybe there is something to this story after all. I think Dalinar had so much faith in his old friend and was so focused on other matters, matters which he hoped Amaram would help him with, that he would have considered the matter dropped after he talked to the 17 liars. Kaladin demanding justice in front of the entire court after saving his sons makes Dalinar reconsider. In fact after he calms down he admits he might have done the same as Kaladin

My revised list of favorites 10-1 after reading WoR. 10.Rock 9. Lopin 8. Renarin 7. Jasnah (She moved down the list because other characters shined in WoR) 6. Teft 5. Lift 4. Dalinar 3. Adolin (he really impressed me in WoR, I'm looking forward to seeing where his character is going.) 2. Shallan 1. Kaladin

It is hard to know when that interlude takes place. Also, if he intended to test Amaram why risk making him a KR and why tell Kaladin "You’re wrong about him, soldier. You’re just plain wrong" ? Why seem so certain of his innocence? It doesn't fit.
-
I was surprised the first person Kaladin confided in completely was Dalinar. He did mention to Moash that Amaram was the one the enslaved him, but I think Dalinar is the only one he gave the specifics to. Dalinar's reaction did not surprise me. He barely knew Kaladin and Amaram had been a close friend for many years. The fact that he listened as he did at all and did look into the story is admirable. And what Dalinar learned, from seventeen liars, was also to be expected. However, when did Dalinar decide to test Amaram? He didn't bond the Shardblade until Kaladin was in prison. Just before Kaladin went to prison he told he that he was wrong about Amaram, but while Kaladin was in prison he admitted that he understood why Kaladin did what he did. Also, if he had doubts about Amaram's innocence before the disadvantaged duel why did he make him a Knights Radiant. As unwise as Kaladin's choice was to ask do duel Amaram after Adolin's duel, if hadn't done it would Dalinar have continued to investigate Amaram?
-
I read a couple reviews, where the author loved WoR nonetheless, still wanted to toss it in frustration at least during one point of the story. For me, it was when Amaram came walking into the menagerie wearing a golden "Knights Radiant" cloak. Did this happen to you? What was the most frustrating moment for you in WoR?
