Devotion and dominion are still considered on their world even shattered
-
I would say that only minimal power was being drawn at the time because the plate was no longer providing any power to the armor just that breastplate so other than fixing damage to its self in is not drawing power and I have always thought that the amount that is repaired is done so at a set ish rate.

He had to bust the chest plate to do that didn't he. They may not have been powering the plate anymore.

Silver does it mess with spiritual connections across all worlds
Arook replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I do understand that the he does that but if you want to be tricky sometimes you change things up. Also I think even Vasher says that in the beginning of the book that its sheath is silver but, I admit he could have been talking about the color not the metal. Most metals are a metallic gray so it is hard to say. Polished metal is not easy to tell apart at a glance. Edit: A thought occurred to me now that I have a better understanding of what the spiritual realm is. Aluminum messes with investiture on at least on one world for sure and if what I'm hearing is right there is WoB that is does so on others. So If investiture transcendence the all three realms. What if silver just lets you alter the connection to the spiritual realm where aluminum alters the connection to investiture. Think if you have 3 peices of cloth(physical cognitive spiritual) and a cup of water(investiture) to represent the Cosmere. Now lightly mist the whole first piece then pour 16 spots on the cloth. this is how I see the spiritual realm being. Then place the next cloth(cognitive) on the the first one some water will seep through but only in spots that is is concentrated. Next place the last cloth (physical) on the first 2. Some will still seep through and evaporate but not much. Does that make sense? For each broken shard it that spot with a hammer. -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
Arook replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sorry I was wrong thank you for the information. It is spiritual. The bond between Syl does have a distance factor though. As for my statement about squires I meant Historically who also for the most part did not fight in the battles. I was not referring to anything in the book. Does it take time Kaladin did not know how to suck in storm light he did it on instinct Lopen does. second The level of the bond increases a persons effectiveness at holding storm light from ideal 2 to 3 it increases dramatically. I don't think Lopen was holding a brom when he did it so it was probably a very small amount and almost certainly not freshly infused but it could have been. @Weiry No i can't see any reason for Lightweaves or Bondsmiths to have squires but then if your guys theory is right maybe Bondsmith have lots of squires because they have so few members. Any way we will just have to wait and see what the next book says on the subject. -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]

Yes it could steal a blade but a spirit web is not the same as investiture nor is a surge binder bond and the shard blade bond the same. to form that bond you need a gem of storm light to bond a bladei would imagine a spike could steal the connection to the blade not blade it's self. -

Umm, no, storm light and investiture are spiritual in nature not the bond. The bond is cognitive and defiantly has a distance limit. Syl can not travel far from Kaladin without the bond dissolving see when she went to get the leaf. Still that is something he would need to think of doing not something he would do by instinct. I Still don't see why they would have that power I'm positive we would have heard of it in legend. Even if knowledge of it was lost what about all those other times people are working with the Radiants and not having power I mean if its not weakening you that would be something to give out freely to fight the void bringers. Other wise the Radiants are totally stupid and deserve the crap they get. -
Silver does it mess with spiritual connections across all worlds
Arook replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Fair enough So based on a bayonet with a metal sheath. Nightbloods sheath would at about 1/3 again the weight of the steal used to make it. That was my basis for the extra weight. If Nightblood weighs 8 pounds its going to be 2.67 additional weight. But for all I know Nightblood weights 20lb and that has nothing to do with the weight of the steel. -

Arook replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Your right it is most likely aluminum or some other form of investiture then not silver. Right but most sheaths are not solid metal that was all. We are not talking about most swords we are talking about Nightblood who in only fully drawn at the end of war breaker. 4 feet of metal is still 4 feet of metal, if the sheath was steel it would double Nightblood's weight. Aluminum adds very little weight for the amount of metal needed. -

I only say that because Vasher is the only one to hold Nightblood without his sheath everyone else is always holding it with the sheath so in most cases they are one and the same weight wise. At no point in the books has someone held Nightblood alone and talked about its weight. The thing is that its never said that shard blades are unnaturally light that i can remember they talk about how easy it is to cut through things but he is wearing shard plate at the time. unless it says so in WoR and I don't remember I'm just starting my reread of it. Depending on what he said exactly it could mean that so you may be right. -
Silver does it mess with spiritual connections across all worlds
Arook replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The Book just calls it silver not silvery which is why i was basing that it could be silver. However if there is WoB that why people expect it to be lighter is because of the corrupt investiture makes it heavy then it almost has to be aluminum. I always figured that the reason was because of the metal sheath. Most scabbards are not solid metal most are in fact leather or wood with metal ends. -

I had not considered aluminum on account of the weight of the sword. I always thought it would need to be a heavier metal but aluminum is a light colored and could be mistaken for silver if aluminum is unknown which I'm sure it is there. -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
Arook replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
See in most cases squires are on the path to be a knight not just testing to see if they can. Jasnah's description of the Knights Radient flood of new members sounded like she was talking about large amounts of new bonds by the spren not just random people showing up saying hey I want to join. And i reread the part today where syl says that no honor spren had bonded but her because even she was disobeying the storm father. So it is very likely that with his consent Honor spren started bonding again. A more important point is that Kaladin is half a continent away when Lopen breaths in storm light. I have a hard time believing that Kaladin can grant those kinds of powers from that far subconsciously. If he was with Kaladin the ya I could see that. -

Not that I remember elantrians didn't use anything they didn't just make with the power. They used gold currency. It's possible they could not make metals directly like wood and stone. But I can't remember if the box that the seon Is kept in is silver or not I don't think it was I think it was steel, silver is to soft -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
Arook replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
The storm light leaking out of the armor is similar to that of wounds being healed by a surge binder. The level of investiture in plate is why the blades don't cut them. Night blood would defiantly have at least the same level of damage to plate as a shard blade. I think they talk about the bodies being drained of their breath and being gray with black around the wounds but I could be wrong. -
Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
Arook replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
Surgebinders I believe have to have a spren bound to them to pull in stormlight. Lopen tried every day to suck in stormlight and in fact was not near any other current surge binders so I find it unlikely that its some form of training to get a spren. Sqires would make more sense for what Kaladin is. Him not being a Radiant yet per Syl. As for when Lopen started it was after the stormfather bonded Dalinar having agreed to the need for the Knights Radiant again. hours after the bond formed knowing how Stormlight is supposed to be pulled in unlike all the others who had to learn by instinct. I don't think he could the investiture would mess with the Blades being drained but his bond should grant the power to draw in stormlight to feed him. Although who knows what a Shardblade and Nightblood interaction would be could blow the whole place up for all I know. i personally think that Nightblood could only be countered by Blade and Plate. That being because Nightblood can vaporize walls. -
But ruin by its self can not preservation could have if it wanted to I'm sure. Ruin in fact is the best system for jury rigging immortality from other powers but unable to grant anything directly
-
I wonder if it is possible to bond a suit of shard plate like a shard blade. It takes 2 weeks I think of constant contact with a gem embedded in the shard blade before the forced sudo bond is formed, but that might simply be to difficult to do with plate. If that is possible that could account for the helm disappearing and reappearing.

Actually I believe you can attain agelessness with enough breath even without being Returned. I'm sure each shards system can grant it to someone if you had the right combination except maybe Ruin.

Nightblood + Skybreakers [Spoilers for WoR]
Arook replied to MitchBade's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought that was the implication of Lopen gaining the ability to breath in storm light after the Dalinars talk with the storm father. Who Syl implies she was disobeying bonding to Kaladin in the first place. -
So today will reading a WoB about Electrum and Jak's ability I had a thought. Does silver have a special use in the Cosmere that I had not noticed before. So in Shadows for silence in the forests of hell silver is the main weapon against shades is silver. This stands out because in most of the Cosmere books silver is not widely used. It is not a known Allowmantic metal. and we know they had it because they use it to make electrum also I believe that pewter is frequently found mixed with silver in a vein of ore. So what if silver disrupts or alters spiritual connections that is why it is not a base allowmantic metal and allows when mixed with gold to show the possible future spiritual connections that you will make. Gold just showing your possible self The sheath Night blood is in, is referred to as silver.Night blood goes berserk almost over powering Vashers mind when drawn. In fact it undergoes a huge change in personality when drawn. I have always felt that the sheath dampens Nightblood. This leads to one thought could a silver sword harm a spren that is manifesting in the physical realm maybe even killing it or just harming its connection with the spiritual realm. Has anyone ever asked Brandon Sanderson about Silver in the cosmere. I know that there are some rules that all shards must follow maybe silvers connection is pre original shattering.

I had not seen those WoB. So Nightblood basically makes a bond with anyone it tries to interact with but, It has 2 levels of bond it uses to test it's user for evil. evil wont or can not let go, good only touch it if thy have to and if they survive are no longer sickened by it. Just because the bond is basically the same kind of bond does not mean it is going to do anything like the others. Other than feeding off breath I don't think Nightblood gains anything by the bond other than communication. Frankly Nightblood is a little bit of a bond slut. Spren however can not exist in the physical realm without the bond and stay intelligent. Nightblood born in the physical realm can exist on his own. In fact the more he connects to the spiritual realm the less intelligent he becomes. I feel that they are similar but not basically the same. Spren are born of pure thought forged with spirit no physical is involved that's the key difference for me. Although that leads me to a question if Nightblood (sentient inorganic) and Returned (sentient organic) are similar could a returned bond with someone and create a mental link like other fragments. However i was totally wrong on the bonding thing so thank you Moogle +1 for your hard work.
