Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Kasimir, what does being such a Lovable Bear Dude have to do with my alignment? Also, I’m not at my computer right now, so maybe someone could line up Kas’s potential teams with the known social status of players, since I doubt the elims are all Ruh or Noble.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think I need to spread more smiles this cycle, so here y'all go: So if the elims are trying to frame TKN then it follows that the person that PM'd JNV is elim. TKN might be unlucky (elim kill fails for some reason and a random player roleblocked him), but that's the only scenario where we don't get a Skindancer here.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think we can assume that TKN was roleblocked, so either the elims did or a villager did. If the elims did, it follows that JNV's contact is most likely the elim that sent in that order. If the elims didn't roleblock, then the gambit world is where the elims just didn't send in a kill and hoped that someone roleblocked someone else. This seems quite far-fetched to me. I had protection during the night, but I'm assuming an attack that is protected against would show as "Araris was attacked but survived." I'm also fairly sure that I'm a low priority target since I don't count toward win-cons. And yeah, I'm referring to previous games. I can't recall a game where elims deliberately failed to send in a kill to get the target of a roleblock killed, despite that option being mentioned in the thread whenever the possibility arises. The risk versus reward just doesn't seem worth it generally.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, I feel like this scenario has been a potential option to the elim before and they passed it up. The problem for the elims is they potentially out a member; we expel TKN and JNV’s roleblocker and we likely hit an elim between them. The only way this goes wrong is if the elims just didn’t send in a sabotage on the hopes that someone would be doing a RB, which doesn’t seem like a solid play. So I agree with complains on TKN, and JNV should reveal their contact near EOC (in case they are good, in order to stop a sabotage there).- 692 replies

I’ll just note that getting the boot should make it easier to pay for things, and that as a villager getting expelled isn’t the worst thing. You can stay at The Pearl of Imre, practice your music, get some talent pipes, gamble somewhere with a positive expected value, and then go on a killing spree with hired assassins.- 692 replies

Hmm, maybe we have a couple of E'lirs in Rhetoric and Logic that cancelled Sart and TKN's votes. I'm going to assume that the GMs would inform us if they changed conventions partway through the game. I'm suspecting you because elims frequently get frustrated over votes that have nothing to do with them being elim. More so than villagers getting voted on for bad reasons, in my experience. Of course, my suspicions have roughly 0 weight now that I'm expelled, so take them with a grain of salt.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
My tip as a 2-time KKC-er; you don’t need to know most of the rules. Pick a field to elevate in, find your favorite lodging, and then just have some fun. Write some RP, hire some assassins, whatever. You can min-max things a lot if you want (like getting your Master elevation in a different field from your first 3), but that’s only one facet of the game. We’re at the University, and we can do a lot of the cool stuff that Kvothe messed around with. So find something you think would be cool to do and just go for it! I accepted a contract to adopt a velociraptor, so basically anything is on the table . Ah. Well, that doesn’t really change my analysis, but thanks for pointing that out. Hope that doesn’t cause massive problems (though if I somehow get reinstated that would be a plus).- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I'm still not happy with STINK, placing only 1 complaint basically means you don't care about the consequences of the complaints, just the money. I want to say that all the skindancers would lodge complaints, or at least would be more likely to than Steel hasn't been on the Shard since Saturday, so assuming that's accurate he's currently on the streets and only has a ~42% chance to live until the next term. Szeth has been on the shard a lot, but didn't post at all in the thread. It's hard to say, but there is probably a decent chance he's on the streets as well. @Szeth_Pancakes, any chance you'll join us this turn? Drake, JNV, (and Wonko) are insane. That leaves TKN and Sart as players that didn't complain last term. And I think SD!Sart would have complained on someone last turn. I'm pretty sure TKN would fail to complain regardless of alignment, so that doesn't help. This seems elimmy to me, just saying. And that's all for now, folks.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Well, we have 3 people that are essentially confirmed villagers, so we can do a bit of VC analysis. Probably should aim for another expulsion this term. I think it’s still going to be a bit before we get any player Masters. But one possible loss condition is the Skindancers controlling fields, so Masters are overall a greater boon to them. They can also coordinate their elevations, so probably have a slightly higher chance of being elevated perm term than villagers.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Maybe another person would have been shocked at expulsion. But Aralor knew, despite the lack of complaints, that he’d deserved what the Masters had charged him with. Figuring that she was harmless, he’d brought Velocity to the Medica for Sarenrae to take a look at her. Aralor had been impressed with how quickly the other student had been able to discover and treat the unhealed wounds still plaguing the bird. But then they’d all learned what sort of predator he’d taken under his wing. Velocity had bolted from the table, slipped out into the hallway and into the next room, where she’d begun savaging another patient. Aralor managed to subdue her before any permanent damage was done, but that was merely a small stoke of luck too insignificant to balance out the harm. The master Physicist had shouted at him so loud that half the University had heard, and the master who’d sponsored his elevation to E’lir had been worse. Despite all that, despite his expulsion, Aralor resolved to stick around and do his best to help in the Fae crisis. Some of the students were his friends now, after all. Sarenrae had been caught up in his mistakes, for one, and he owed her for that. He’d heard there were ways to make money across the river, and with his purse free from tuition, perhaps he’d have enough coin to make some small difference.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’m going to push back against this (in a small part because my character is currently chilling with Sart’s ). Kas is the sort of player that floating suspicions doesn’t work well against. If you sus Kas, he’s (usually) going to get in your face about your reasons for it. And since Kas has pretty strong tells, that sort of thing tends to be useless anyways. I’m not sure when the last time v!Kas got exed was. Basically, I don’t think an elim would take that approach with Kas. They’d either try and pocket him or NK him.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aralor struggled to keep his grip in Velocity's cage as he was jostled by some students on his way to the Medica. Sorry girl, he thought, pausing for a moment to get a firmer grasp and letting several students who looked to be late for class run by. The cage was still covered, since he didn't want to draw any unwanted attention from any of the passersby, and he wanted the bird's future encounters to be controlled, in the hopes of overcoming any bad experiences she'd already had. Aralor's attempts at socializing had begun to pay off, and he'd mentioned Velocity to the few students he'd begun to start talking with more regularly. One of them, a girl named Sarenrae, had expressed some interest in meeting his "pet", despite his insistence that the bird was injured and not ready to be out and about. Instead, Sarenrae had offered her services as a student in the Medica, and given Velocity's current state that seemed for the best. He suspected that her mistreatment had gone beyond malnurishment and into more direct, physical harm. Eventually Aralor reached the Medica, and he set about searching for the table that Sarenrae had mentioned was available.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I can and will be sus of you proposing said pyramid scheme. A quick PSA: Don't forget to send in orders for your lodging by the end of the cycle, unless you're a skindancer I'm currently most suspicious of Wonko and STINK right now. Nothing's changed about STINK, except that he's since placed a retaliatory complaint. Suspicion of Wonko is based on his interactions with Kas last month. Staying at the Golden Pony cancels up to 2 complaints. You can probably do something with Naming to a similar effect, but otherwise I don't know any other ways to cancel complaints. Keeping that in mind, anyone voting on Ash or Kas should be prepared to get other people to follow suit. Aralor peered at the directions he'd written himself as he walked the streets outside the University. He'd heard of a strange creature someone was keeping as a pet, and thought that perhaps an odd companion would be a conversation starter as he tried to ease further into the University life. Rounding a corner, he spied a cloth-covered box or cage, roughly a foot cube, that was where he'd arranged to make the pickup. Whoever had dropped off the creature apparently hadn't stuck around. Reaching a hand tentatively out, Aralor lifted the cloth to examine his new companion. Curled on the floor of the cage was some kind of bird, and as soon as it saw Aralor it raked at his hand with a talon. He withdrew quickly, marveling at the speed of the animal, and feeling sorry for it's condition at the same time. Its feathers had been ragged and dull, and a wound on it left leg seemed to be healing slowly. Aralor hefted the cage and began retracing his steps. Later, back in his rooms, Aralor took some scraps of meat and fed his new friend. His first instinct that it was a bird didn't seem quite right. It had the feathers, but it wasn't proportioned quite right to fly. It's long tail seemed more for balancing while running, and each "wing" was rather stubby. It's mouth, talons, and appetite clearly indicated it was a predator, though one currently in no condition to hunt. Aralor resolved to pay the Medica a visit to inquire about the care of large predatory birds. Who knew, maybe he'd meet someone with similar interests. He covered the cage again and headed to bed for the night, his last thought before sleeping was of a name for his new pet. A fast running birdlike creature. Velocity seems like an appropriate name.- 692 replies

Yes, but I do think that lends some weight to the complaints system that we should try to leverage, since the consequences of getting complained at include roleblocks. I like your point about Archer (assuming it's true), that's not something I would have picked up on.- 692 replies

Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I’m not really sure how to talk about this in character, but I agree with Kas that the reduction in total DP available is a little rough in regards to getting people expelled. I think it’s reasonable, since we have around 60% of the players as previous KKC games have had, but it still means we need to probably use the complaints a bit more like a standard exe. However, the (non apology) effects of getting disciplined are still pretty rough for the skindancers, even if expulsion doesn’t happen. Aralon sat on his bed in Anker’s, surprised that the Masters hadn’t punished any of the students brought on the Horns. What was the point of the complaint system if it didn’t have any teeth behind it? Even now some of the students were trying to game the complaints to save on their tuition. In Aralon’s opinion that was a tactic the Skindancers themselves might taken, if they thought it would gain ground. He made a mental note to file his monthly complaints on anyone he heard pushing for such a plan. (STINK STINK) It had been hard for him to motivate staying at the University beyond his lectures this term, and not being elevated into the Arcanum didn’t help in that regard. So he scribbled away at some assignments in his room, occasionally taking breaks to read some books he’d borrowed. By the time his work was done, he’d come to the conclusion that he needed to force himself to maintain more of a presence at the University, even if it was uncomfortable for him. Make some friends, impress a Master, find a nice reading spot. He didn’t think he was capable of worrying about his studies as much as some of the other students, but that didn’t mean he didn’t care, just that he felt his work was sufficient. But, well. It wouldn’t hurt to be a bit more visible.- 692 replies

Jincs, your nobility (referring to your social class rather than your character, of course) is quite obvious. Your spending habits are quite ridiculous, you seem to have an infinite set of different clothes, and, perhaps without intending it, you talk down to nearly everyone. Long Game 96: KKC in the Modern Age
Araris Valerian replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Aralor left the Alchemy lecture equal parts disturbed and concerned. The demonstration of turning wax into metal had been fascinating until the lecturer warned about touching such an extraction. And supposedly there were Skindancers loose on the grounds. If one of them was studying alchemy... He stopped the line of thought before it reached any gruesome conclusions. He still wasn't entirely convinced that the Fae were real, but it was becoming clearer that the world was a much larger place than he'd originally suspected, and that it wasn't all like in the Taborlin the Great stories. The alchemy demonstration was the most visibly impressive thing he'd seen thus far, but he'd caught glimpses and heard whispers of far more potent magicks even in just the short time he'd been at the University. While the threat of the potential weapons the Skindancers could wield through the Arcanum was horrifying, the comment about gold in the lecture had also struck a chord with Aralor. Of course, if you could just make gold like that, it likely wouldn't be much help for paying tuition, but that didn't stop him from wondering which of his classes would be useful for covering his fees. His parents were helping there as much as they could, but the treasure of the Ruh didn't lie in their coin. As Aralor's thoughts became more consumed with how he was going to keep his tuition at a manageable level, he recalled that one of the measures the Masters had taken to thwart the Skindancers was to encourage students to file complaints. Seemed a bit cutthroat, but nobody could blame him for jumping at a fast cut in his fees. Jincs (Archer) was a noble, surely he could afford some unwanted attention from the Masters.- 692 replies
