I don't think force fields need to be spherical. If you look literally, they are essentially a 'field' of 'force'. Nothing about that implies a certain shape to me. Prof's forcefields come in many different shapes and sizes so I think you are fine. Just because some forcefields must be in the form of spheres does not mean all have to be. 1. I think I'd limit it to solid objects for now. We have enough energy epics running around at the moment. EDIT: I would include a force field as energy I think... EDIT 2: By solid objects I was just meaning "not energy" so 'matter' would have been more accurate. She can of course also call in liquids. I'm making up my mind about gasses. The question is how to stop her from stealing all the oxygen? Unless that's something we'd want her to do... 2. She automatically collects it all. She can choose to stop collecting as she moves around, but when she activates her powers they take everything. Power and versatility were two of the things I was going for .

Hemalurgic theft of age? Can you and who would you spike with it
Comatose replied to Arook's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The main issue I see with the original theory is that as far as we know (at least in the time of the Final Empire) Hemalurgy required a death in order for the spike to acquire a charge. Now, Sazed may have changed this in current times, but it is difficult to say how this would work given how little we know about modern Hemalurgy. Otherwise, I agree with what has been said about old age being the absence of whatever atium-feruchemy stores, making it likely an un-stealable resource. -
New epic idea, haha. Not sure what I think, but feel free to tear this one to shreds. Monopoly

No problem! And just to be clear, I wasn't trying to sound impatient. Take your time with the next Converter post and make it good. I was just meaning to say that I was going to wait to do a Rainmaker post until you did a Converter one. As for the normals, they are all gone. Buttercup got all of them except for the one's Chase was using away in this post, and then I assume after Converter killed the one's closest to her in this post, the rest fled. They are definitely all gone by this post, since Buttercup returns, and the police would be enforcing curfew. Hope those posts can help as reference points.

The pandas have retreated for the moment, so I think right now the plot (as I understand it) is the city trying to maintain control in the face of all the new epics who have arrived, and the epics who were defending the city recovering from just using their powers a lot. Also, there is the repelling of Frequency and Co's attack, and I forget how that was going. Also Taylor Swift is there.

What, the Corvallis edition started and I didn't notice! Glad Iconoclast was the first to go, haha. 12 Chase 10 Rainmaker 12 Euphoria 8 Converter 10 Phoenix 9 Tonedeaf 11 Cornucopia 10 Hypno -
On the Orange Crush / The Dalles front, Taylor Swift and Glamour are also hanging out at the moment . I was waiting for a Converter post. I would tend to agree with Blaze on this one (Venture Mistborn, I believe I also sent you a PM on this subject yesterday). We can do pretty much whatever you want in Corvallis, but we just need to make some plans regarding Inhuman's entrance first. This doesn't mean you can't do what you want, just that we need to plot out the implications and figure out how the other characters fit in around him. Anyways, so let me know what you would like to see happen, and then we can make it make sense in the RP.

Well, the baseball equipment likely isn't there any more, and they are not exactly there, but in that area sounds correct to me!
-
Click this for a map! They are in the Crystal Lake Sports Field in Corvallis. Specifically, I think they would be in the largest open field, to the north of the area, but likely near trees (not sure if the treeline would be the same, or if Cornucopia would have expanded it). You should be able to use street view to poke around a little. Also, Venture Mistborn was thinking his character (the name is escaping me) could be a prominent member of Corvallis's intelligence network. Any idea how we should fit him in?
-
That sounds good to me! Maybe she could be a scout? That would make sense with her power set. Wait, I'm confused, can Witness only make contracts between himself and other people, or can he witness contracts between two parties and make them binding? I was thinking Rainmaker would get him to make contracts between members of her Government and epics she wants to control. As for a general contract for his services, I'd have to think about that. Rainmaker wouldn't want to make herself vulnerable without good cause. Would he witness certain contracts in Corvallis without being contracted himself?

I'm having trouble finding things in the Reddit thread, and don't have time to stick around to ask questions. Anyone want to summarize the unique powers question and answer for me? EDIT: As for Miss Isles: 1. I like her. 2. She could probably fit into Corvallis in pretty much any capacity. I think she would work best as a minor epic in Rainmaker's government, or as a neutral citizen.

Can anyone give me context on the whole AMA thing? I don't reddit, and am not following this incredibly interesting conversation about the questions that are being asked and answered... Also, on the point of the childrens, I wonder if we might see David and Megan get pregnant? In general, I'm guessing that epic-ness usually does not pass, since I don't see epics as genetically different from humans. I think they are being altered at a different level. So epic A would pass on her genes the same way she would if she had not been given super powers. I think what Brandon may have been referring do with the children becoming epics is A) due to intervention by Calamity, or As someone else said, perhaps due to the breeding of redeemed epics, who have somehow made their powers more integral to their being. He might also mean that a parent could pass down or instill through socialization personality traits that could make someone more likely to be an epic. Wheew, that was a lot. Let me know if I missed anything! Sorry for the monster post!

And prepare for Comatose's monster getting caught up post (serves me right for being busy and sick over the long weekend: Last I checked they were. I'll give him one more once over though . I forget why I multi-quoted this. Perhaps it was just to LOL? I share the same concerns about Corvallis. My hope is that after this crazy confrontation, the decline into chaos can resume, at the future attempts by Converter to destabilize things will be more subtle. The descent into chaos might go more quickly than we originally planned, but I still have a lot of hunt for Euphoria stuff planned, so it would be nice if we could still fit all that in. I think we are waiting for a Converter post next, and then there are a couple of options as to how she gets away (Phoenix, Iconoclast, and Insight all have reasons to release her, so we'll have to see who is the most plausible option). Things I love about Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Legend of Korra (the sequel), along with the reasons why I think you'd enjoy it (from the limited amount I know of you. 1. It does well at balancing humour that both young and old can appreciate without diminishing the complexity of its plot or compromising its characters. It's one of the few shows that can go from silly to serious and back with fluidity without giving the watchers whiplash. 2. Along this vein, like MLP, I feel the show elevates viewers instead of dumbing things down for their audience. Again, the characters are beautifully rendered with complex mixes of personalities, concerns, and motivations, and none of them are simplified down to the one-note character traits I have seen in other cartoons. 3. The animation is gorgeous, especially later on in the series. It takes a while for the animation, the plot, and the characters to really grab you in season one (slow to start), but from the mid-point of season one onward, it's pretty fantastic. In particular, the fight scenes, especially season 2 on, are some of the most beautiful television ever. 5. The world-building is incredible. There is so much symmetry between how the magic system functions, how the different nations are set up, and spiritual beliefs of the people work. It's really awesome. 6. Back to characters (can you tell what my favorite part is?), the creators do a marvelous job of creating individual characters who are not defined by their race, class, gender, etc. You'll meet young men and women who fit, contradict, and subvert the stereotypes associated with different aspects of their person in a spectrum of ways. I forget what else I was going to say, but I could honestly go on about this series forever. It has some of my favorite characters and moments, and I regularly have moments where I wish it was still running because nothing has captured my imagination in the same way that show has (except, perhaps, for Brandon's books ). Yes, I think that can be arranged. I'll brainstorm options. Right now, I think we are waiting on a Converter post. Did you see this Voidus? I won't comment further, but it indirectly reminded me of our earlier conversation in PM... I think he could add an interesting dimension, I'll comment more later, as I address the concerns others have brought up. I would rather not change the time frame in Corvallis, since we will have stuff up in the mean time. If you want to RP Iconoclast getting ready, you can. I'm still adjusting to the time thing, since on MBI, we can work in multiple scenes concurrently, and thus don't run into this problem. I get that it would be expedient for his plotline to move Corvallis, but I'm hesitant to do so because of the complications that might arise, and because I want to give characters who are less battle focused a chance to get some good RPing in before the next huge assault. If we just time hop from fight scene to fight scene, we miss a lot of the good bits . I think Rainmaker would use this epic, but cautiously. She likely wouldn't enter into any contracts herself, and use proxies instead. I'm guessing she would use his power sparingly, and only in situations when it would come in handy (such as restraining rebellious epics from causing trouble), and would avoid using it on the large scale at all costs. One note, do the bargains have to be fair? In law, generally the courts will not inquire into the adequacy of consideration, unless there is some sort of fraud or misrepresentation or the general purpose of the contract is frustrated. So, as long as something is offered in exchange for something else, and that offer is accepted, the contract is binding. So, even if I pay one dollar for the Mona Lisa, that contract is still binding, because consideration was offered by both sides. Basically, my question boils down to what the limits on consideration are. How fair does the bargain have to be, and how much can that be stretched? Also, how do power dynamics play into the fairness. For example, since Rainmaker is more powerful, would her doing a favour or making a personal offer be more valuable than if Brandon offered the same? I'm still thinking about this, but I'm pretty sure Rainmaker could find fun uses for his power. I'm pretty sure there's been like 10 new posts since I started typing this, so I may be back...

Brandon is indeed still in the clinic. On the subject of morality, I think its difficult to apply the moral scales from our world to the Reckonerverse. I'm not saying ethics don't exist there, or that epics should not be judged, just that they should perhaps be judged differently. There are some things in our world that when done by a child, someone with a mental impairment, or someone with extenuating circumstances, are seen as less morally reprehensible than if they were done by someone else. I also think there is a difference between enjoying a character and condoning or agreeing with their viewpoint. Do I love Funtimes? Yes I do. I also have really enjoyed writing Euphoria, and enjoy the viewpoints of many of the epics in the RP. At the same time, I don't agree with their actions, or think my enjoyment of their viewpoints means they are morally good or superior to characters whose viewpoints I enjoy less. Not entirely on topic, but just my two cents

Welcome Back Kipper! Just so you know, the admin CP has a merge function, so I could merge your old account into the new one. It would save you the trouble of tracking your old posts down, and then your post count and rep levels would be more accurate.

Backtrack 18 Mistwraith 13 Shiny Sparkle 3 MV 12 Taylor Swift 8 I made a similar agreement with Winter earlier, so I feel the need to not focus all of my attention on Mistwraith in the hopes that just knocking off one point here or there instead of two every time will be enough. With Backtrack almost to safety, I don't feel too bad. If you stay away from T-Money, I promise to only hit him once instead of twice . -

Backtrack 17 Mistwraith 14 Shiny Sparkle 7 MV 12 Taylor Swift 7 -Nothing personal guys, but I gotta look out for my girl T-Swift, and Backtrack and Mistwraith can afford to lose a point each. Wish I didn't have to hurt either of them, but that's the rules. Don't worry, I won't be targeting them. *Prepares for Taylor to be instantly voted down to zero in vengeance. -
Am I the only one who cried at the end of Elantris?
Comatose replied to Eiro's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I love the way his feelings for Sarene develop over the course of the book. It's so subtly done! Someone once said in a book jacket quote (about Mistborn I think) that Brandon has a great understanding of how love takes root in the human heart, and I definitely see that here. In fact, I think Hrathen's feelings for Sarene are one of the most believable examples of romance in the Cosmere for me. Definitely a great ending, with the perfect emotional punch.
