  1. I wasn't intending for her to figure out the weakness = fears thing, more just that, because she knew him well, she realized when he was reacting to certain things, and deduced something was at play that way. Since it was earlier though, and I don't think it's super essential to the character, I'll change it to something more haphazard so that its more plausible. Thanks again for the feedback .
  2. They don't kill epics though, they spy on them. and steal from them. When I say bounty-hunting in the original application, I was meaning kidnapping rather than assassination. The targets of that particular side business would almost always be Vanillas, or perhaps some very weak epics. Some epics might want to kill them yes, but that's only a problem if they get caught, isn't it? I'm kind of confused about what this criticism is. We have Vanillas (Remington Springfield for example) who epics might want to kill, but who are still around. David from the books is another example. Again, I'm not saying Aaron and Daerra walk in fully armed and challenge epics face to face. They work from the shadows, steal things and information, then leave. How would epics retaliate if they don't know who to retaliate against? The only ones who would have a chance to do this are ones who are kidnapped. On that point, I take your criticism, and would be willing to edit that part out, since it isn't really necessary. What I think you are criticizing here is why epics still hire them, when they are defying the authority of other epics. I thought their talent would be enough. Let's say Curveball is angry because Fortuity stole his lucky gun. He then hires someone like Daerra and Aaron to get it back for him, without leaving any traces, because they are good at what they do, even if they don't have powers. He can't challenge Fortuity directly, do he acts indirectly (ignoring the fact that this is entirely out of character for Curveball). Epics like to keep Vanillas in their place, but they also have disagreements with one another, and don't seem above using Vanillas against each other. Also, I don't see why two thieves would be attracting so much negative attention that they could not get work, when you have so many epics in the Dalles who are not only working with, but working under Vanilla leaders. Maybe I'm missing your point here, or there is some miscommunication, but I'm not really seeing the issue. Again, the challenge would be finding them. They aren't working in the open or putting out advertisements. The reason Daerra's contacts are important is because they work on a 'friend of a friend' basis, usually using intermediaries or electronic communication. I'm not saying family members automatically know of an epics weakness, but that they have the best chance of figuring it out. I also see the contradiction. Andrew would have been planning to kill his children once they were done being of use to him, but Daerra got to him first. In the books, once an epic is done with their rending, they seem capable of calculation, and also of restraining themselves from killing threats (otherwise Prof or Regalia would have killed someone like Tia immediately). Once his rending passed, and his children returned, Andrew realized he had an opportunity to use them against his brother, and so he put off killing them until they had served their purpose. Using others instead of getting his own hands dirty is a core piece of his character. To sum things up, basically I see things going like this: Daerra was able to figure out her father's weakness because she knew him VERY well. Andrew did not kill his children immediately because they were of use to him, and because he was in control of himself post-rending. I was deliberately vague about his powers, because I thought it would avoid technical problems like this. I said he was powerful, but didn't specify whether or not he was physically powerful, or whether he had a prime invincibility. Maybe one of his powers involved some form of mind manipulation, or maybe he had other means of avoiding assassination. I don't think the fact that he avoided assassination necessarily means he was a high epic, even if the combined actions of him and his brother threw the city into a chaotic state. I'm sure Euphoria's rending caused chaos, and she isn't a high epic. I wasn't really thinking the children would be celebrities. Here in Canada, we don't really treat the children of our politicians as celebrities, and though Andrew was prominent, he wasn't Prime Minister or anything. I'm from a small town in the middle of nowhere, and I know someone who could at one time have been considered a prominent provincial politician, and you'd never guess. While they do have a famous mother, she retired from acting when they were born, so I kind of figured her fame would have faded, and wouldn't have accrued to the children. Personally, I don't know much about the children of people who were celebrities fifteen years ago. I was also vague about how they escaped. What you say about airport security might be correct, but maybe they didn't choose to fly. When they first arrived back from Europe, I'm assuming the police did hold them for information. Who knows, maybe they were held for information and then eventually released after Andrew's death as well. Again, I didn't really want to work out every little logistical piece of their history, so I tried to be vague in places so that we could fill in that history as we went. Would their escape have been easy? Probably not. Did the cities recovery from a battle between two epics probably help them a little, it probably did. Again, I wanted to be flexible. Daerra would have kept up with currency, and transferred it into a useful form at the earliest convenience. Remember, they took the funds before the Capitulation Act, and before things got too chaotic. Since David and his father were visiting a bank the day Chicago was taken over, I'm assuming electronic banking systems were still functioning at that point. After she had the money, Daerra could do what she wanted with it, perhaps buying gold, or other valuables, that she could use in place of money when the system collapsed. You present a good point with the freezing of accounts issue. Here's a couple ways I can see getting around that difficulty. (1) The twins had private funds set aside for them personally by their grandfather (who was the wealthy one), and only the funds Andrew could access were frozen. (2) The wealth they took in was all taken from the family's estate, and not from a bank (maybe they had some money in a safe in case of something like this). (3) The twins waited around Andrew's death until the assets became unfrozen, cooperating with the police all the way. Maybe they rushed things a bit, out of recognition of what they went through, and because they had other epics to worry about. (4) Maybe I could dial back the effect Andrew and his brother's war had on the city, making it more private and scope. In this scenario, Daerra and Aaron could flee before Andrew's death is discovered. I'm open to other options or solutions though, so feel free to suggest some. I'd say the Vanillas in The Dalles are defying epics. I know that is not the best argument, especially because they are about to be destroyed, but Daerra and Aaron are a lot more mobile than a whole town. What I am saying is if Vondra and Autumn can work with and over epics, surely there would be some epics who might want to hire Vanillas to use them against other epics. Your point about the sensitive information is a good one. Maybe they keep this aspect of their business shrouded in more secrecy, or perhaps they use different aliases in those scenarios. They aren't exactly coming into direct contact often, so physical reconition wouldn't necessarily be an issue. How would potential employers know that freelancers X who steal things and freelancers Y who discover weaknesses are the same person? There is still the issue of epics hiring them specifically to discover the weaknesses of other epics. Obviously, this would be a precarious situation for a Vanilla to be in. I do think though, that if an epic had an enemy they wanted to get rid of, and they heard that some Vanillas had a talent for finding hidden information, that they would hire them, even with the risk that they might discover information about them. Again, some epics likely would be so defensive and paranoid that they would kill them on the spot, but Daerra and Aaron wouldn't work with those epics. Though their corruption affects them in similar ways, epics still have distinct personalities. I kind of thought the finding weaknesses thing would develop naturally, since it seemed to me that that would be a common request epics would have to use against their enemies. There's definitely danger involved, but my hope was that Daerra and Aaron would be competent and lucky enough to face that danger. Fair enough. I was intending for them to keep their use of epic tech hidden. Some might wonder how they accomplish certain jobs, and become suspicious, but I hoped they could be subtle enough that the completion of seemingly impossible tasks could be chalked up to the twins just being really good at what they do. Nighthound is also in Portland, which is now closed. I also thought it might be funny if Fortuity hired them to gather information on Funtimes, but ran into the same problem. Also, there is the fact that Funtimes is becoming progressively more terrifying, meaning if Daerra and Aaron got caught spying, their chances of survival could be slim. Would The Dalles be a better place for them? Do any epics or vanillas there have items or information of value that would be worth stealing, and perhaps enemies who could be the twin's employers? Edge, I think I addressed all your points, but let me know if I missed any!
  3. That's all right! I posted them to get feed back, and since they are nobility in the other setting, there are bound to be some issues changing them into Vanillas in the Reckonerverse. I was operating under the impression that there are epics of various power levels or offensive capabilities. Many epics could kill them both without looking back, but there are some who could not. For threats, I wasn't meaning physical threats, but mostly blackmail. With Bribes as well, I was thinking more that they could bribe epics with information or favours. As for Daerra's attitude, I was referring here to her personality, not to her MO. Keep in mind that she is an excellent actress, a key talent she uses to her advantage. What I meant to say here is going up against an epic will not usually deter her from the pursuit of a goal. Is she going to walk up to Rainmaker and start acting superior? Absolutely not. What Daerra would do is read the social situation (which likely means staying as far away from people like Rainmaker as possible), and then finding minor epics and Vanillas she can manipulate, and leverage to use against them. In general, I figured their targets would be weak to mid level epics who have resources that can be stolen. I kind of conceptualized them as similar to the Reckoners, but less altruistic, more self centered. They aren't fighting the system, they are working within it. I wanted to write some Vanilla characters with some wealth and resources, who weren't starting from square one. For example, how many people in The Dalles would pay them to steal from Reader? Or to uncover secrets he is hiding? Reader is an example of a very important epic who, as long as Daerra and Aaron did their job right and didn't get caught, would have a very difficult time retaliating. Euphoria or some of the other (physically) weaker Queens would also be valid targets. Keep in mind that they are working from the shadows, gathering information before they make their move. It would be unlikely any of their targets ever meet them face to face, knowing who they are. Bribes and threats to reveal information can also happen electronically, or through intermediaries, meaning Daerra would not need to risk threatening a physically dangerous epic to his or her face. That said, there isn't enough money in the world to pay them to go to a place like Astoria at this point, and they generally avoid the most powerful High Epics, since they'd be put in severe danger. I was going off the fact that epics often kill their families during, or soon after their rending, in order to hide their weaknesses, which I thought was a pretty automatic thing. In my head, Daerra figuring out the weakness was a more haphazard thing, not nearly as meticulous as her other plans. As for how she and Aaron stayed alive, in my imagination it was mostly by playing her father and uncle against each other, and by making themselves useful in the struggle. As for how the weakness was used, I tried to be deliberately vague here, so that I wouldn't get caught up on faulty details. While Andrew was a new epic, his rending would have been over at this time, so I figured it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to have an awareness of his weakness, but then again, we really don't know how that works. I'll keep playing around with this in my head, and try to make it a little more plausible though. Likely making her defeat of her father more of a fluke will help. (1) In my mind, the battle between the brothers would have been fairly chaotic and far reaching, and since Andrew was a public figure, I thought the police would know he had become an epic, and Daerra and Aaron's actions would be treated as self defense, or they would have been lost in the shuffle, because the city had been destabilized by this conflict. Again, I tried to be vague with the timing here, because I'm reallly bad at timelines and didn't want to contradict anything, but in my head the conflict, from the Rending (which Daerra and Aaron were not present for) to the death of Daerra's father, would have lasted about a year. I was also vague with how Daerra got the money, and how long it took to get it. This was also intentional. If you would like me to put thought into this, please let me know. (2) Would the assets have become worthless everywhere? How do people pay for things like Epic Tech? I know that many epic despots probably develop their own currency, but would that make old currency useless? I also imagined Aaron and Daerra divesting their funds quite quickly, before their usefulness degraded to nearly nothing, using it to purchase supplies, equipment, information, and contacts, before the country totally devolved into chaos. The plot purpose of the money, in my mind, was to give them a head start, and help to explain how they've done so well since the apocalypse, and have contacts at places like Knighthawk. If the money bothers you, please let me know if you can think of a replacement that serves a similar plot purpose. We do know that epics work with Vanillas some times, even powerful ones. Steelheart had humans in his bureaucracy, and Nightwielder dealt with the human weapons merchant (a pretty important role). Would they have to be careful not to go rubbing their 'importance' in epics faces? Absolutely. Daerra would be as good at playing the bowing and scraping game as anyone, and would make every effort to appear useful, but unimportant, when it suited her purposes. I was picturing Daerra and Aaron to work a little differently from the lorists. I pictured them more as free lancers than researchers. Instead of compiling a huge data base of weaknesses, they research the weaknesses of their targets, and then sell them to the person who hired them to find those weaknesses. I thought maybe they could even do some field work for the lorists on the side, since to me, it doesn't seem like the lorists get out much. Also, this was meant to be a side business. Their primary specialty is stealing things. I never meant for them to go around like the Reckoners defying the epics. My intention was for them to be integrated into the scenery, and somewhat adapted to life in the Fractured States. While I would like for them to be hired by epics from time to time, I did not intend for them to be working openly. They are still VERY underground (similar to the Recknoners), moving from city to city, and primary contact would likely happen through intermediaries, and safe-guards would be put in place before any in person meeting (if one of those happens at all). I didn't really want to get into the specifics of their business, but if you feel it is important I can. I might change it to some sort of harness or chest brace. Gloves looked cooler, but I was having some other issues with them in my head, so that can be easily adjusted. They don't widely advertise their use of epic technology either, so I was hoping they could avoid some of the stigma. Also, wasn't the Guass (sp?) gun epic tech? I know Nightwielder didn't end up buying it, but didn't he seem to consider it? Maybe I'm getting my facts wrong, it's been too long since I reread Steelheart. That's true. Iconoclast was also a little high power for them. Is there someone well known a little lower on the food chain who would have enemies? In general, it seems like this overall clarification needs to be made. I never intended for these two to be walking around with Daerra acting like Queen of the world overthrowing High Epics left and right. Their scope is less than that of the Reckoners at the beginning of Steelheart, especially considering they don't kill epics, they just steal items and information from them. Anyways, if you have points you'd like to come back to, or anything to add let me know. I'll keep turning some of these suggestions around in my head, and see about making some edits. Thanks for the critique!
  4. That's why JGL is his icon, haha. I just used their avatars. Out of my characters, the twins are (obviously) two of my favourites as well, so I'm hoping they will fit in here too. I think it might be cool to explore the thieving and espionage side of their story, since that plot-line kind of got side-lined by all the inheritance shenanigans in MBI. The rioter's name would be Valerre, and his friend is Daphne. They are another two of my favorites, but it's more difficult for me to transplant them, since their situations are very Final Empire specific. Maybe some day though...
  5. Blaze (and the rest of you), I also had a thought about how Blossom's powers work. I'm not quite sure about the mechanics, but could Rainmaker extend the range of Blossom's ice breath by manipulating the wind?
  6. I definitely remember Aspir, haha. Klyde was lots of fun, but I don't think I'd ever repurpose him. I love him, but he's someone I seem to get sick of writing quickly, so I don't think I'd want to be writing him in two RP's. Sorry if there is some awkward phrasing in these. I copy and pasted things together from their other apps to save time. Blackhoof, I was wondering how you would feel if Daerra and Aaron's current target could be Iconoclast? I figured an epic like him would make a lot of enemies, some who might have the resources to hire Daerra and Aaron. If anyone else has an idea for what their mission could be, let me know. Also let me know what you think!
  7. Just a question, how do people feel about recreating characters from other settings? Today, I've been playing around with how a couple of my Mistborn: The Inquisition characters would manage in the Reckoner-verse, and was wondering about making some Vanilla versions of them to participate in the RP. Thoughts?
  8. So satisfying when that pug breaks down the door and squishes that guy's stupid face.
  9. *Notices Twi's rep for the first time in days/weeks. I see we have another "God Beyond" in our midst... It's really too bad there are no Reckoners levels, though it might be difficult to fit Calamity in around Adonalsium... New Epic Idea: Name: Adonalsium Power: Can split self into sixteen separate persons, with 16 separate powers. Each person takes on a distinct aspect of Adonalsium's personality, and is governed by that trait. Each of the 16 can gift their power to others. Weakness: Hoid?
  10. His role would depend on his power, and how prominent you want him to be. Since Rainmaker generally wouldn't like someone of his personality, I'm guessing she'd keep him low down if possible. He could also be a common epic citizen, and not have a government role, depending on what you want. As for the Newcago Transplant, I think as soon as this confrontation with Converter is over he would be welcome to join. Silver, I think a Converter post would be next. Also, if you could clarify how her bullet/kinetic energy stopping works, and times when it doesn't work (such as in her prologue), that might be useful.
  11. Also keep in mind that Converter ALREADY has a PI - reincarnation. Giving her two (which is what a danger-sense triggered blanket protection would be), would raise her to the level of Prof, whom David seems to think is VERY overpowered (and he is). Also, we already know her powers don't work as a blanket from her prologue. There, she was blocking bullets in front of her, ones that she knew were coming, but failed to block one that shot her from behind. She can be taken by surprise. Otherwise she would never use her reincarnation power. EDIT: Also, I love the Cornucopia post. I think I'll wait for Converter to respond before posting with Rainmaker. Then we will see what happens next.
  12. I absolutely approve. In general, I don't mind, but with Euphoria gone, and Converter and Iconoclast in the mix, there is already a lot happening in Corvallis, so it might be nice to wait a bit. The city seems to have a decent amount of uncertainty for the moment, and I'd like to save outright chaos for a little later, so we have a chance to build. As far as huge battles between a bunch of super powerful epics goes, we already have Astoria going, so it would be nice to set Corvallis apart a bit and keep it distinct. I would tend to agree. Faultline also came from Steelhearts inner circle, so there may have been personal reasons. Right now, Chase, and possibly Euphoria (spoilers...) seem to be the only ones who might have personal reasons for betraying Rainmaker, and neither have the power to confront her directly. I intended for her PI to be a totally effective Steelheart style PI, that requires a weakness to overcome. She can be trapped certainly, but her cloud form is not a natural cloud; it just possesses many of the same properties. Generally, if sucked into a vacuum (which Rainmaker would likely be able to defend against by altering air flow), I think Rainmaker would burst the vacuum, since the cloud-mass would stay together, and be too much for the vacuum to contain (part of Rainmaker's cloudburst PI is that the cloud is non-compressable, it stays at the mass Rainmaker's body would take up, if she were in a gaseous form, which she is). That, or the portion of the cloud that does not fit into the vacuum would just remain outside. On the head standpoint, I'm assuming Rainmaker could counter most heat attacks with her wind manipulation and temperature control abilities, but one did hit her in cloud form, I'm assuming she would not be dissipated. Think of it this way. She turns into a cloud, but it's not a cloud made of water-vapour. It's a cloud made of angry, weather-distorting, vengeful, epic. Not sure how all of this works from a physics perspective (and it's all just hand canon and open for edits at this point), so if someone wants to figure out how this works I would be very grateful. My main overall intent for the ability was that it would allow her to pass through small spaces, and provide her with a perfect Prime Invincibility, mostly because of the key role she plays in Corvalis's plot. EDIT: Also, remember that Rainmaker is a bit of a coward when it comes to Epics who are close to her in strength. Notice how she reacts by backing off once she begins to realize the possible extent of Iconoclasts powers, and how cautiously she is dealing with Converter. It might be harder to get her into a duel or fair fight then you think.
  13. Answers A few words on the answers. If you have a dispute with some of them, feel free to chat with me about them in a message. Please keep in mind though that the Trivia was meant to be fun, and that while I did put work into these question, I never intended for them to be perfect, so there are bound to be some flaws. I included some explanation about how the marking worked in the answers above. Anyways, I hope everyone who has answered, and who continues to answer had some fun, and learned some things about Elantris that they did not know before. I am opening this thread now, so people can post their answers in spoiler tags below, and then check their own work. I will not be updating the scoreboard, or marking PM'd questions from this point on. Feel free to include some discussion of the questions if you wish, but try to keep the focus on actually answering the questions. Any comments that spoil answers should be included in spoiler tags with your answers. Happy 10th Elantris Anniversary, thanks to everyone who was brave enough to participate, and happy posting!
  14. One thing to keep in mind is that the epics who are in Corvallis are there by choice. Most of them can leave at any time. Well, not any time, they'd still have to wait for scheduled shield-drop days, but they wouldn't have much trouble. Mostly Rainmaker has just given them a safe place to live with lots of resources, and access to happy slaves. They don't have reasons to fight against her like the Vanillas do. Now, of course, there are epics from outside who have reason to destroy her rule, and some may have infiltrated the city (such as Iconoclast and the other attackers), but I don't really see a reason for an epic who has voluntarily chosen to live in Corvallis to risk challenging Rainmaker unless they want the city for themselves. EDIT: I definitely think people here could RP both a Queen and a rebel Epic. I think most people seem to have people on multiple sides of many conflicts in the different RPs. I know on MBI it seems to work fine. I can't wait . I've always had a strange fascination with the Lord Ruler. Yes please!
  15. "We should go, and behind us you should begin the rain. This second breach of Epics is a serious issue, but we should not reveal such information to the public. Continue the plan as normal." Rainmaker nodded, accepting Blossom's advice. " I was thinking the same thing. We've shown our power, but it would not to for people to see us struggling against whoever this new epic is who is causing trouble. We need time to regroup and gather information, so that if we do chose to face this threat publicly, we can be seen as in control." Rainmaker hated feeling vulnerable, or out of control. It reminded her too much of her time imprisoned by the government, sometimes spending days in cloud form as they tried and failed to pierce her invincibility. Thankfully her husband, not realizing the old Government would soon be a thing of the past, had feared to associate himself with Saudi-Arabian oil because of the effects it might have on his future political career. Otherwise, he might have drawn attention to Rainmaker's father's business, giving the government scientists what they needed to figure out her weakness. After she had escaped that prison, her husband had paid for betraying her. Years later, it would seem her secret was safe, and as long as Rainmaker could remain in control, she would have no need to fear someone figuring it out. Rainmaker's contemplation was interrupted when someone was sent flying into the air. Not another one. Rainmaker easily picked out the epic who had performed the feat as she pushed her way to the front of the fleeing crowd, leaving a trail of what seemed like frozen corpses in her wake. So, ice powers and some sort of telekinesis perhaps? Rainmaker only hoped this was a separate epic, and not the same one from before, or another gifted Vanilla. The thought of one epic with such a broad power portfolio was almost too much to contemplate. "Chase," Rainmaker said into her mobile, "Stay where are for now, but I need to know if the woman in front is a Vanilla or not. Buttercup, get the rest of the crowd clear. Blossom is right, we can't afford any more bad publicity tonight. Blossom and Cornucopia, stay with me. Hold back for now, and stay out of her line of fire. Try to help me figure out her power profile, if you can. Tonedeath, muffle the sound between us and the crowd, so they can't over hear our conversation." As she gave orders, Rainmaker floated forward to face her newest opponent. If there was going to be another battle, she needed to delay so that she could gather more information, and so that Buttercup would have time to get the rest of the town away from the scene. "Hello there," Rainmaker said, glancing down at the new epic. "I am Rainmaker, the ruler of this city. As you have seen, we do not take kindly to unauthorized disturbances here in Corvallis. Please, state your name and your business here. If you are willing to cooperate, and mean no harm, we may be willing to welcome you to the city with open arms. Be warned though, this city is under my personal protection, and any threats to it will be snuffed out."
  16. Haha, serves me right for being away from the computer for a while. Lots to catch up on! That's what I was interested in as well. I'd have to search out and read more Quota posts in the Portland thread to really get a feel for how his powers work. I think the most interesting interaction would be between his 'soothing' and Euphoria's history revision powers. In terms of his dampening vs. her happiness, I think her power seems to alter the base state more, so he would have to work harder to 'soothe' it away. Again, I only have a rudimentary understanding of his powers, so I'd have to research more before I speculate further. Interesting. Her happiness powers always have had a chemical feel for me (especially the addictive dimension), so that would be interesting. I think I would prefer to limit her for the moment, as I never intended for her to be a combative character, but maybe she could use some sort of serotonin overload to stun people? It could be interesting to consider for her Rending. If such a thing is possible, she would likely need very close proximity, and be focusing on a single person. Kind of like some sort of overdose. Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I think your latest post is fine, the queens will be scrambling a little, but I'll try to figure out Rainmaker's response ASAP. It seems to be a tad OP to me. Judging by how you've described her powers (particularly her stopping the bullets, and her death scene) it seems like she would have difficulty affecting something so complex in a subtle without sight or touch. She'd be more likely just to drain someone's heat at that point, I'd think. I guess I answered this point above, but I agree with the analysis of Converter's power, and find the Serotonin overdose thing to be very interesting, but will need to think about it more. My thought was that she could grow individual plants at high speeds (when directly manipulating them), but that single plant would have a limit on what it could produce. The field hands are needed to keep the city supplied with things, since plants that Cornucopia is not directly influencing would grow 'normally' (what ever that means for plants that grow pancakes). My original vision was that Corncopia would plant things, and get them so they weren't in danger of dying immediately, and then leave their care to the field workers. In combat though, I'd be fine with her speeding things up. Unless you've removed the requirement for her to have an original item to plant, I don't think that makes her too OP. That's just my original thought process though. I'm fine with any and all adjustments you make!
  17. Even still, it would be fun to see them react against each other. What would even the playing field a bit is if Quota was on his home turf, since Euphoria would take a while to start getting people hooked.
  18. "He's not an epic!" Rainmaker turned towards the sound of Chase's voice. What did she mean he wasn't an epic? He obviously had powers. Rainmaker watched as the beast fell to the ground with a splat, and how quickly it regenerated. He has healing abilities. This could be interesting. Ignoring Chase's advice for the moment, Rainmaker focused on the immediate threat, pinning him down with more wind, and sending down three bolts of lightening followed by a hailstone twice his size to finish him off. If that wasn't enough to stop his healing abilities, then she was going to have to get creative. Once she watched her hailstone land, Rainmaker turned back, only to find Chase gone. Where had she run off to? And what was that warning about? If the man wasn't an epic, Chase would certainly know, as she had leashed all of the non-epics in the city. Rainmaker reconsidered the odd behaviour and random attacks from before. Could those have all been humans? But what had made them attack? It could be the work of a gifter... Working with Euphoria had familiarized Rainmaker with the usefulness and limitations of the ability to gift one's powers. The more she thought about the ability, the more it made sense with the seeming randomness of the attacks. It was likely the gifter could endow humans with some sort of healing ability, while controlling them with some secondary power. Rainmaker looked back anxiously at where her hailstone lay, watching for any sign of movement from her adversary beneath. If she was dealing with a gifter, the city could be in much graver danger than a few independent epics could cause. Still watching the stone carefully, while scanning the crowds for any indication of who might be the source of the attack, Rainmaker spoke into her mobile, instructing security to escort the people back to their homes, and to ensure a curfew was enforced. Next, she radioed the other queens, requesting those who were still present to meet her at the stage. The last thing she did before floating back over to the stage was to finally text Hypno back. Meet me at the Harrison Street Bridge later tonight. I'll get back to you with the time. - RM Still keeping a wary eye on the squashed and electrocuted attacker, and on the crowd as it began to disperse, Rainmaker hovered near the stage, praying to Calamity that there would not be another disturbance, and that the crowd would make its way home without incident.
  19. I would love to get Quota and Euphoria in the same setting some day. It would be interesting to see them battle for control of a population's emotions.
  20. Considering Part III of the Casuana ball was started 3.5 years ago and it still isn't done, I'd say we're pretty slow, haha. To be fair, other threads move much more quickly, it usually depends on who is involved, what else everyone is involved with, and whether people stick around. We are also just coming off of basically a 1-2 month hiatus due to life shenanigans for most of the players, so hopefully now things pick up again . Like I said before though, it's really hard to compare. Here, we have several threads which are basically separate stories running concurrently, and most people are involved in most of the threads. On MBI, each thread is a scene, limited to certain characters, and all of those scenes together make a kind of monster conglomerate story. People can post within the current 'week', or anything previous, but since so many things are happening at once, time moves very slowly (after 5 or so years, we are still on our second week of RP time). Here, there's more freedom to move forward in time, since we are generally dealing with less plotlines. It's honestly been a real treat to compare them, and trying out a different RP has really re-energized me for writing. Thanks for letting me join in .
  21. "Brightdeath can die but not change." This made me giggle, for some reason, mostly because it fits so well with her character. On MBI, we've had several absences MUCH longer than a few months (some permanent). While that RP also moves more slowly than this one, my usual policy is to treat characters with absent players as NPCs, use them when necessary, and leave them to do their own thing when they are not, so that when the player returns, they can mostly pick up where they left off. As I said before, MBI is a different format from WHIO, but for Chase at least, I could probably get by with her being an NPC for a few months, especially if we do some ground work preparing before hand. Maybe Rainmaker could send her undercover or something...
  22. I guess Taylor Swift could be a kandra, and Euphoria's powers are kind of similar to Rioting, but I'm not sure how you'd fit Rainmaker into the Cosmere. She's a High Storm?

Answers will be posted later this week! Thanks to everyone who participated! Note: I did the math several times, but as a former English Major, I stand open to correction. If you feel I've miscalculated your score, feel free to PM with a break down of why you think I've miscalculated. I gave some 0.5s when I felt people were basically there but just not quite specific enough. Also, I hope every one keeps in mind that this is meant to be a fun way to appreciate a great book. Thanks for playing! EDIT: Sorry about the mix-up with the scores! If you are still PMing me answers, remember to explain to me how you are designating whether you answered questions from memory or not, as it may not be readily apparent.
  24. LOVE that post. Can't wait to see what Gregory has in store for Corvallis's future .
