Ah, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have the exact same opinion about characters influencing one another. It seems that in most books, the only thing you need to do in order to be happy is to either get a love interest or have some babies. Which don't really do squat when it comes down to it. It's probably the most unrealistic way to solve character problems. Suffered from trauma as a kid? No problem, just have a baby and it's solved. Gah.

Eh, don't mind me. Since most Alethi look ethnically persian, I always imagined them similar to the skin tone that Aladdin has (the Disney version). However, the dark skin certainly looks great! To be honest, I always imagined Rock as black, but when Shallan, who is pale, was described as looking like a Horneater, I had to quickly change my internal description. As for the hair, I believe that it's mentioned somewhere that she has straight hair, but that she curls it. The quote up there says that "if left unbound, it would be as long as Shallan's hair", which implies that her hair is styled in the curly manner. Either way, your portraits are beautiful. Especially that Shallan one. Wowza! You've captured her perfectly, in my mind. So, don't mind the criticism. You've done an excellent job here!

I agree strongly with this, as I've gone through a severe depressive episode in my life. However, I don't believe it's that cut and dried. Yes, you are responsible for your feelings. Yes, the only one that can change the way you act, think, and feel is you. But other people can help inspire and facilitate this change. Certainly people can impact us negatively. But some people can help us, give us motivation, and be there for us. My mother has been a great help with my struggling. I can honestly say that were it not for her influence, I would be much more depressed, angry, and mistrustful of everyone. She hasn't done this simply by being my mother, but by comforting and giving out helpful advice to me. To apply this to Kaladin, being in a relationship is not going to instantly make him skip in joy, sing love ballads, and get over his problems. However, a good relationship can facilitate healing, connections with others, and happiness. In essence, this was what Tien did for Kaladin. He didn't make his SAD go away just by standing around. He gave him rocks. He smiled at him. He made Kaladin laugh. It is actions, not just entering into a relationship that helps with this. Kaladin has depression, PTSD, and maybe SAD, which are all clinical health problems. Those will probably never go away. He's going to be struggling with them for the rest of his life. However, if he enters into a positive and healthy relationship and if he allows his partner (in my opinion, Shallan) to uplift and comfort him, the symptoms may decrease. It's an ongoing battle, but that doesn't mean that people can't step in and help him.

Dang that Shallan looks good! As for Jasnah, I think you got her skin a little too dark and I'm pretty sure that her hair is straight, but don't mind me- I really love how it looks! I'm always appreciative of other people's interpretations of characters.

I've found that for Stormlight Archive, I've binged the Legend of Korra soundtrack from Season One. Since Roshar is such an alien planet, I feel that the Erhu that the soundtrack utilizes makes it seem foreign and familiar at the same time. I've always listened to during the amazing climax of Words of Radiance. fits the Shallan flashbacks perfectly. When Szeth shows up for the first assassination attempt against Elhokar, I always listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL1kzvvmMsk'>this.

Since I am a hardcore Legend of Zelda fan, I'm gonna have to put up Master Sword. It just sounds cool. What's even cooler? Calling it The Blade of Evil's Bane. Those translators certainly understood how to make a name freaking epic. Off that tangent, I've always thought that Arsteel, even though it's a character's name, would make a great sword name. One of my OCs carries around a Shardblade named Judgement, which I thought was a pretty cool name for a sword. On a more comical note, I winced every time I read the last Eragon book because of the name "Tinkledeath". Really, Christopher Paolini? Really? You just took all the awesome of a sword that's pretty much a Shardblade, sucked it out, then threw it into a pigsty. Then set the pigsty on fire. Curse you for all time!

Same with mine. It lists me about thirty miles away from where I actually live. Which I'm completely fine with. -
[GAME] If you were a Mistborn in real life...
Chrono replied to Steel's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Please tell me that the jolliness doesn't come from the souls of dead children. Wait, did I just type that? -
Stick. Because that's the first thing I can think of.

Buy. He's spent a year being digested once. And who's to say that Chasmfiends aren't delicious? The year that Hoid spent being digested was inside of a Sarlacc. Or a dragon.

Buy. So much buy. If I had money, I would give it to you, Swimmingly, but for now my upvote will have to suffice.

I've found that is a great song emphasizing the massive amount of guilt and depression that Szeth feels as he slowly goes insane. The lyrics especially capture his helplessness as he descends further and further. "I'm just tired of even walking. I don't even understand people." is just one example. It's J-pop, so if you don't like that sort of thing, lyrics will be put in spoilers below.

Why (I think) that Kaladin is a better hero than Dalinar
Chrono replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there's a lot of bias towards Kaladin, simply because he has a lot more screen time then Dalinar does. And he's been put through the wringer a lot more. However, I'd give it some time. We often don't get to see Dalinar's perspective on things, so I haven't really had a chance to grasp him as a character yet. Kaladin I'm pretty sure about, Shallan I'm sure about, even Adolin I'm sure about. But Dalinar? He hasn't really ever had much emphasis. To be honest, I see Dalinar as a struggling soul. His problems have been mostly internal, which sometimes make them harder to pick up on. However, they're still there, and they're putting a lot of pressure on his mind. He's constantly having to walk the line between being helpful to Elhokar but not simply taking over the throne. He's struggling with the fact that God is dead, pretty much. Almost every highprince either hates him or wants nothing to do with him. He's seen as an embarrassment, an old goody-goody that's condescending and "holier than thou" to everyone (although there are certainly elements of truth in that). And, as always, he's basically forced himself into a position that's uncomfortable to him: being a diplomat instead of a military leader. Those problems may seem minor compared to Kaladin's, but I suspect that Dalinar is going to be ripped to shreds as these books go on. Brandon has said that Dalinar is his favorite character from the SA, and Brandon loves to hurt his favorite characters. I'm patiently waiting for the day when Dalinar will have to lose everything and everyone he loves to save the world. As for whether Dalinar or Kaladin would make a better leader, I would say Dalinar in a heartbeat. Kaladin is charismatic and has some leadership abilities, but Dalinar is much more experienced at leading armies. He's shown us that he is a respectable leader and wise in strategy (that plot with Amaram? Pure genius. He's gotten much better at scheming). He's slowly starting to get over his bad trusting ability, but I have a nagging feeling that it won't leave him. In short, he's just got more experience at leading massive amounts of conflicting people than Kaladin. I also have a feeling that Dalinar will delegate a lot of responsibility to those under his command. -
[GAME] If you were a Mistborn in real life...
Chrono replied to Steel's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Being a mistborn? Awesome! What would I do? Burn pewter so I'm not totally wiped out by gym class. Also, to scare people (because seeing a young thin woman chucking a car at someone is scary. Maybe). Soothe/Riot my teachers so that I can get better scores in class. Burn tin so that I can compensate for my terrible vision (I would have to get used to light sensitivity, but my eyes are wacko anyway, so I'm pretty much used to that). Burn atium to win every single sport and every single video game ever. Use steel and iron to levitate and open doors. I have no idea what other things I would do with mistborn powers. Feruchemy seems more useful in everyday life, but I'm too lazy to write about that so this is it. -
I was trying to imagine something similar to the Triforce from the Legend of Zelda games, but this makes a lot more sense. This would actually make a sweet tattoo. Upvote for you!

I'd kinda like a copy of the actual Way of Kings, translated into english, of course. It'd be fascinating to read the entire thing. As for other stuff, I really want a T-shirt with Pattern on it, as well as high quality posters of each Shardblade mentioned so far (since they are all unique, it would be quite a collection).

Well, you can't predict everything. And, I highly doubt that the Diagram is set up as a flunky system, just to illustrate the "Journey Before Destination" motto. Most likely, it will come down to a much more difficult choice: go with the Diagram and have a reasonable chance of saving a section of the population, or choosing the honorable path at the risk of humanity being destroyed. If the Diagram is flawed, the tension of that choice just deflates. EDIT: And, I'm pretty sure that the civil war in Jah Keved did work out exactly as planned. Down to the exact number of highprinces who died, and the circumstances that led to Taravangian being in control. Too lazy to look up the chapter, but Taravangian marvels at how accurate the Diagram was in that situation. However, nature being chaotic as it is, I doubt he anticipated the plague in the Purelake, unless Mr. T's power is straight up divination.

Since Thunderclasts are that big, we might want to consider fielding twenty, maybe even twenty five Phantoms against that monster. We also don't know how intelligent the spren possessing it is. It sounds like Sjat-Ana, the Unmade that corrupts spren, uses the spren of old KR to possess it, so it might be very smart. Or it could be very dumb. Hrm... I also support using morning stars for the Phantoms.

Ah, I apologize for misinterpreting you then. As a note, this is why I said that Elsecallers weren't nearly as powerful as people think they are. Soulcasting is hard enough with a stationary object, but with a moving object trying to attack you? That's near impossible! Elsecalling is also stating to be imprecise, though a helpful method of getting around.

Gravitation seems to be a relatively easy surge to master, as Kaladin seemed to get down to an almost instinctive level in a relatively fast manner. However, it still took him at least a month to practice and practice and practice to the point where he could actually move as Szeth did. Adhesion, he still has no idea about. Note also that Kaladin was in a life or death situation almost every single day by the sole virtue of bridge runs, which he ran for something like three months. That culminates in a lot of instinctual practice. Shallan has only been in those situations a handful of times in comparison. Soulcasting is mentioned several times to be a difficult, dangerous thing to do and master. And frankly, we can tell that it is difficult, because you have to be in both Shadesmar and the Physical Realm simultaneously, which requires a massive amount of concentration. Shallan managed to Soulcast the ship into water in a life or death situation, but she was able to concentrate (and she had the fact that land is water in Shadesmar to help her out). When she's exhausted, hungry, cold, confused, and distraught? Not so much. Jasnah was also in Shadesmar for as long as she was because she needed information about the upcoming desolations. The way that Hoid says it, the spren were very hard to work with in order to get that information, and she had to make a tight escape. That escape didn't seem to take her that much time to do, so it seems that she's pretty far along with the Transportation Surge. Either way, Jasnah has a double whammy of confusing and hard to use Radiant Powers.

Awesome! It's nice seeing my ideas somewhat implemented... Either way, blunt weapons will obviously have to do, since blades cannot work. Unless the Phantoms have Shardblades... O.o Here's a list of blunt weapons that I was able to come up with: Warhammer Ball and Chain Mace Flail Giant Boulders BARE HANDS (considering that the phantoms are made of stone) Shield (Some of the phantoms could have defensive capabilities) That's about it. Also, Herdaz is perfect for this sort of thing! I can just see Lopen strolling in for a conversation with one of his cousins, then have a massive fight break out between Roshone and X mystical creature. ccstat, you are a genius.

Since both the Phantoms and the Thunderclast are made of stone, it's basically brute force against brute force. Thunderclasts are ginormous (around thirty feet tall and maybe the size of half a chasmfiend), but even it cannot stand against a suitable force of Phantoms armed with friggen giant warhammers. I'd say fifteen VS one. Those of you who are the science experts, take it away. As for where we should go, well... *cracks open book to peruse map* Since we're moving west, we could either move into Azir (although that's a long march) or stumble into Urithiru (that's in the mountains, though, so unless Roshone's got a mountain goat for a steed, there's no way we're getting in there except for an Oathgate). Alternatively, we could move east, where we have several options, listed below. Kholinar: This one could be fun, depending on whether you want Roshone to head straight into the chaos of the revolt or not. If you just want to use one human character, I'd avoid here. The Shattered Plains: Since they're pretty much abandoned, Roshone could move over there to seek out military or political connections, but find the place deserted. Cue epic Chasmfiend battle! The Horneater Peaks: Depends on whether you want to murk around with those interesting pools at the top of the Peaks or not. If they are cool awesome teleporting pools, who knows what could come out of the other side? These are my thoughts.

Master List of Origins™: the Ultimate Nationality Thread
Chrono replied to Aether's topic in General Discussion
I'm from the USA, specifically Utah. Originally, I'm a Cajun, but you don't need to put that on the list. -
Mine comes from my favorite RPG of all time: Chrono Trigger. I've always been fascinated with the concept of time, so I figured that Chrono was as good a web name as any. Since Chrono is often taken, I either go by ChronoXtreme (since having an X in the name increases popularity!) or Chono, because I accidentally forgot the r when making my League of Legends account.
