Here's another up vote. I enjoy sitting back and lighting up my churchwarden and reading for a few hours. It's definitely going to be a conflict of interest between reading and school once SA #3 comes out. My favorite quote is "I am a stick!"

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted and now your voice can only be heard by dogs. I wish whomever grants my boon would get a bane twice as bad as they give me. -

Granted, they catch you and therefore stop hunting you. I wish my perfect project had friendly arms. -

Those hunting you know the secret to killing Kandra (that's not your bane, they already knew how to kill you). Your boon is granted, but your bane is that now your crystal body is very fragile and a simple fall down one stair will break every bone in your body. I wish the arms on my perfect project were able to teach people how to use my project. -

Granted, every 10th person you meet also tries to hunt and kill you. I wish the project I'm working on worked perfectly for the next 100 years. -
Welcome, sorry it took so long to say hello.

In welding, there are several processes that allow you to weld two dissimilar, incompatible metals. A likely method that could be used on shardplate is called buttering or surfacing. Basically, a layer of metal (nickle or zinc would be a good choice) is applied to the surface of the shardplate using a non-welding, non-destructive method (some examples are electroplating, galvanizing, or even painting). Then, that layer of nickle or zinc can be used for the weld and can accept many other metals (steel, copper, or whatever).

You probably won't get the cookie reference until The Hero of Ages. Very minor spoiler for Hero of Ages:

It likely has a lot to do with release date. Deborah Harkness' book came out 4 months after Words of Radiance, so her fans are probably more active right now. Even Patrick Rothfuss' book, which would have been my second choice, just came out and hasn't had enough time to build up momentum yet. It's like when the forums here at 17th shard go crazy for a few months when a new book comes out. I wouldn't have even known about the voting if it wasn't for this message board. It seems like for this particular contest, a release date of 3-4 months prior, is the sweet spot. Anyway, congratulations to Ms. Harkness; I'll probably check out her books and the others that made it to the finals eventually. They are all obviously awesome writers.

Granted, you have a huge, delicious bowl of perfect, plain vanilla ice cream. You also no longer have a mouth. I wish I could eat Marvin's bowl of ice cream without it being altered in any way and have no curse related to the way things taste or my ability to eat. -

Granted you are given a knighthood and your last name is changed to Radient. Congratulation Sir Knight Radient! Your curse is that you will forever have a last name that is spelled wrong! I'd like to be a Mistborn and have access to all of the Alomantic metals. -
So, perhaps the beetle gemheart has superior structure and composition than chasmfiend gemhearts. I like the idea that they maybe can't hold as much stormlight, but they can hold it for a longer time. They might end up being the only source of stormlight at the end of a weeping.

I've been thinking about this, and what if a tiny beetle gemheart is incredibly powerful, but no one knows it yet - except Syl. You know how in the movie Monsters, Inc. laughter is way more powerful than screams, but no one knew about it. What if tiny gemhearts are the same. After all, why would anyone go to the trouble of harvesting a gemheart from a beetle when they think it's not very powerful? Then, one day for reasons unknown, someone tries to use a beetle gemheart and it turns out to be 10x more powerful than a greatshell gemheart. This is obviously wild speculation, but it'd be pretty cool if it turned out to be true. still no idea what night's cloak means yet...

Theory on why Vin avioded Hoid *Minor spoilers for WoK*
navybrandt replied to Nesh's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm still of the belief that it was Hoid's humming that spooked Vin. I'm not sure what about the humming spooked her though. It could have been the tune or perhaps a musical magic system. Could he have been worldsinging at the time? -
Nice! Probably a worldhopper and maybe the Kandra! I have to agree that it's probably not Hoid though. Since informant Hoid is mentioned by name in Mistborn, it just seems too unlikely to use two pseudonyms and two different identities in the same book. Somebody should ask Brandon if Felt is a wordhopper. Then, separately ask him if Felt is a Kandra.

Granted, however, they are always sold out of what you want. I wish for a pint of Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. -
The best answer I can give is that in rare situations like the ones you mentioned, a person can still be held responsible but not accountable. In other words, it would be their responsibility to make the situation right (give the CD back to the rightful owner), but they would not be held accountable for breaking the law (fined, jailed, etc). This is also legally what would happen if this situation arose. In other words, yes, it is your responsibility to do the due diligence before buying something from a person or you run the risk of losing what you owned if it is stolen property. However, if you knowingly buy stolen property then you can be held accountable too as an accomplice. It's like buying a used car. Once I own it, it's my responsibility even if the previous owner didn't take care of it. So, if Nale killed Kaladin, as his slave, and later learned the he was unjustly and illegally made a slave, yes, he'd probably make some sort of restitution.

Hi CC! I recommend Elantris as your next Brandon Sanderson book. Wheel of Time is a long but rewarding journey too - especially the last three books!

Welcome, lots of good stuff here. Looking forward to seeing your comments, theories, etc... I recommend Elantris and Warbreaker as your next Brandon Sanderson books.

Kaladins gonna fall in love with veil(spoilers)
navybrandt replied to Wit422's topic in Stormlight Archive
agreed! Also, wasn't Shallan/Veil found out by the Ghostbloods by the end of WoR anyway? So, is the whole Veil persona even necessary anymore? I can see her still using it for darkeyes undercover work, but not to fool the Ghostbloods anymore. -
When I re-listen to them, I bump it up to 1.5 or 2, but first time through it's usually 1.25 in order to not miss anything.
