  1. Or the Shard of Communism. You all get Magic rations and have to share them equally XD
  2. Using forgery to repair your Mother's precious vase you accidentally dropped.
  3. Great match-ups! I'll throw in more match-ups and how I think weaknesses/strengths would work out later... but for now, another good match-up... Mat Cauthon (without his Power-forged Ashandarei) vs Kaladin (without Surgebinding powers). Just a straight up regular Quarterstaff bout. That would be intense! No powers or anything extra, just straight battle/weapon skill. Edit: Realized I broke my own rules, seems how this is a "Cosmere Battle royale". But Matrim vs. Kaladin would still be a great fight
  4. Shard of Indifference Intent. -"Hey Shard, can we have powers?" -"Meh"
  5. I think he may have possibly already had Allomancy powers and is using the Lerasium for feruchemy possibly? Like the atium bracers TLR used in his arms?
  6. What would you say is the youngest age you would recommend reading this book at? Or where at in level reading would you rank it? (Say, compared to Harry Potter or something) Reason I ask is cause I have a niece in 3rd grade who loves reading and is at a slightly advanced pace for her age, and I started reading the Harry Potter series in 4th grade which I think was an appropriate level then for me, and I was going to give her books and stuff for next year in 4th grade and wondering if I should throw the Alcatraz series in there for her too.
  7. Did a little bit of browsing, didn't really see any threads with this discussion, so I thought I'd make it. The ultimate Versus Thread. We all talk about mixing powers and how the cosmere is tied together... so eventually some of our favorite characters from different books will have to fight eachother, right? (of course these could all be theoretical and just fun) I got the idea from reading this Q&A: 72 ReaderAt2046What would happen if Nightblood and a Shardblade hit each other? Brandon SandersonRAFO FootnoteBrandon has stated that Nightblood is, "orders of magnitude," more powerful than a Shardblade. So Vasher vs Szeth would be a pretty crazy battle. Nightblood and Awakening vs Shardblade Surgebinding
  8. Was thinking about this yesterday. If we believe Hoid has full Allomantic powers, then I think he's probably been using his Soothing/Rioting powers on people. Like the reason he was able to have Elokhar keep him around. Maybe he was 'rioting' Kaladin's curiosity when he was playing the flute and was talking to him?
  9. Thank you! That was all very great feedback, and that's the kind of stuff I need to hear. Very constructive criticism. And yeah, I agree that my narrative was pretty bad. That was my first time writing anything like that ever really. I still need to get my writing style down, but that will come with practice. But I'm not working on that particular story now any way. That world eventually changed into the one I've been shaping now. I nixed the 3 suns idea, was just too complicated at first. And now the worlds closer together, more Rodinia, super-continent like. My new magic system I really like though. It's based off of Electromagnetic Radiation from the Sun. We know those energy waves as Radio waves, Microwaves, Infrared waves, visible light, ultraviolet, x-ray, and gamma waves. I've been studying how we use those in real-life, and going to let people use those powers. I'll take a day and compile all my stuff so far and type it all out on here, (if any of ya are interested, of course)
  10. Shallan will eventually get pregnant and spend the second half of the series being completely hormonal and useless. Edit: new one - Navani would be queen instead of there being kings, and would get duped and manipulated by one of the Ten Fools. She would then have to flee (with rumours of Dalinar killing her sprouting up after he goes to avenge her) and eventually will go strike up an alliance with Taravangian, who is just obviously using her.
  11. I just can't wait until there's enough Stormlight books for us to make the "If Wheel of Time was like Stormlight Archive" thread.
  12. Hmm. had an interesting thought the other day. What if someone awakened a bead of Lerasium? Or maybe even Atium? What possible commands could you give, do you think? Would they act like Nightblood, or have different personalities?
  13. So maybe the Plates belong to Cultivation, and the blades to Odium?
  14. So this is a story I had a couple years ago, and I fleshed it out enough to get this page or so written. I eventually trashed the idea and came up with a whole new thing (still semi-based off this). But this was a first draft, no editing write-up I had. Lemme know what you think. That's what this section is for, right? Edit: ew. Yeah. The format is really bad. I only had notepad at the time, and even though I kept a single page width format it made it long version. So having to scroll left to read really sucks, my apologies. prologue.txt
  15. Yesss!!! Those are all so great!.... And with that... The 13 Generals of Elokhars army will always play "game of houses/politics" that never really amount to too much plot development and mostly end up as rumours. Adolin will storming swear whenever he wants to, even in the presence of royalty. Stormfather curse you! (and he'll always win when gambling) Kaladin will get his way because he has an intense stare and acts like he's in charge And... one of the biggest heroes of the final battle will be a character who's introduced a book or two from the end, who's been working in the most neglected part of the story, who's a simple leather craftsman who's had experience in every single other type of oddball-end job, who's just somehow a savant of one specific type of magic.
  16. Not gonna lie. I did thoroughly enjoy this book. Yes, it was brief. But that was the best part, imo. It contained so much in such a small punch. A whole new magic system, realmatic theory, and characters and a plot you enjoy. Being an author is part of taking an abstract concept and making it understandable to the average reader. And Forgery is definitely a pretty crazy concept (But hey, so is "burning metals", but it works) And Sanderson just has the ability to make all of that seem so natural and obvious with his writing.
  17. My biggest "WHAT THE-?" Reading a bunch of Sanderson books, then looking online and seeing/figuring out how they're all part of the same Cosmere Universe.
  18. This thread has kind of blown my mind.
  19. (Jumping on the thanks wagon) *In my best deep, sophisticated fancy-man voice accent* Mhmm, Yes! A Proper Gentleman! Hear hear! Three cheers for Joe!
  20. Definitely was a great excerpt! I'm going to have to buy this now (was undecided before this). And as for any theories of shards/slivers, it looks like we'll just have to RAFO. And while Silence might be the White Fox, that might just be a little too fast/obvious. She definitely seems dangerous though. Why you think she gives Daggon an extra slice of meat?
  21. Ya know, getting this book just might be enough incentive for me to start getting my collection of Sanderson books going... I've only libraried so far, and I do need physical copies...
  22. So it's kind of like "Whose Line is it Anyway"? Where the points are made up and don't matter, and Wayne Brady always wins regardless?
  23. Using lightweaving to hide all of those unsightly zits! The ultimate useless waste of a power.... A Returned giving up their divine breath to heal a politician!
  24. All of the main characters will discover a broken, forbidden magic attack that somehow just conveniently makes something never have existed before. Because that makes sense. (And then at the end when the bad guys are wrecking the good guys with it. Jasnah will all of a sudden figure out how to do its exact opposite effect and save the day with it) I can't stop posting these. It's toooo easy!
  25. Congrats to Sanderson on the Hugo wins.
