  1. Awesome. Dalinar's elite new Cobalt Guard: Bridge Four. I have a feeling Moash is about to start shining in this next book.
  2. Did I miss the "everybody now loves Renarin absolutely" memo? I just notice. There's been a lot of Renarin love recently. When/How did this start? I mean. I like him so far as a character, kinda. Haven't really seen or heard too much from him yet. This Spren he sees can be really interesting. Since we know BS is careful with his words, I find his phrasing very interesting. The people on here calling for this Spren is something connected to his sick-periods, I agree. What makes his Spren special? Since it was said "nobody else can see", has to be something different than anything we know so far. Otherwise he would have said "Nobody but Rock can see". Although does make Renarin a little more interesting now. What if he doesn't pause before saying something to think of what to say, but just to liisten to what to say? And what/who exactly gave him the idea to run forward to confront a chasmfiend? I really hope his Spren is mischevious/the oppposite of Renarin's current personality. Which would fit the theme of Spren we've seen so far.
  3. Can we all unanimously agree that we will all call Taravangian Mr. T from now on?
  4. Any scene with the Bloody Nine. Or Whirrun the Bligh from Heroes. He was fantastic. (The Blade Itself series and other similar books by Joe Abercrombie. The scene in Dark Tower 7 when Roland had to bury Jake. Just the perfect imagery in the woods, in the field of gold and green. and Oy's last words for Jake, "I, Ake". Tear jerking. Um, pretty much the entire Last Battle in Wheel of Time. Just reading Mat's military genius unfold, and the powerful battle scenes and the emotions running through all the characters. Lan vs. Demandred was pretty brutal. Or when Perrin forged his hammer, that was a very powerful scene. The Way of Kings, when Dalinar saves Elokhar, holding back the Chasmfiend by the claws, just beautiful. Or when Kaladin goes back to save the Kholin army. Edit: And what Kadrok said, below me. Can't believe I forgot all the awesome scenes from ASoIaF.
  5. So this is me finally getting around to my crazy fantasy world ideas I've been coming up with for a while now. After much thought and consideration I ended up with Electromagnetic Radiation powers. Such as radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-ray, and Gamma wave radiation. To me it's just a unique idea, and can have a lot of possibilities in fantasy, especially with Tech Interaction. Because, think about it, we manipulate and use all these forms of radiation on a daily basis. So I wanted to add in the real-world element. Also, I wanted there to be no Mysticism, or Gods, or any sort of Divine Intervention, I think that's been done enough. I don't want there to be some "big bad" out there, pulling all the strings, making all the shots for evil to prevail. Humans do that enough on our own to create juicy stories. So this power is naturally occurring in people. A form of evolution, kind of. I've had a lot of problems finding balances, but there's just so much versatility to the powers. Radio Waves: Obvious one. We use these to send signals and information. Will help with instant knowledge of events Microwaves, Same as radio waves basically, just over smaller distances But we also use Microwaves for meteorology, and radar, and the like. Infrared waves are also pretty obvious, just basic heat manipulation/generation at higher levels. At strong levels becomes a low, dim red energy plasma that kind of looks like it flows like molten magma Visible Light This one had me pretty tripped up for a while. Just seems too good and powerful. People who master Light manipulation are the perfect illusionists. You can bend lightwaves around you or anything, making them invisible. You can create waves, making things appear like they are there when they aren't. Just all sorts of visual prowess. Limited to a range, of course, to keep it fair. But people can get really strong with this. Weaknesses can be that you cant create sound or touch, so thats one way around illusion. Or people can use Infrared for Heatvision, or X-ray, or even Radio/Microwave for RADAR type stuff. Ultraviolet This was one of the toughest to work out. It just seems like a high energy type wave that can be dangerous, or very efficient if used properly. I know these are invisible waves and not the purple blacklight colors we associate with it, but there is where I bend science a little bit. People can use ultraviolet for the simple purposes we use them for (mostly for disinfecting tools for medical use, radiation therapy in some cases, mostly medical). But in high levels, I'll have it appear as a type of plasma, emitting blacklight, having an electric-like, arcing appearance. Can be used to just "zap" people. More or less severe radiation burns, and this is the level where people start emitting actual radiation when using powers, making it dangerous. X-rays using those as more of "probing" vision waves. People can use them to see through stuff. Mostly medical uses. Also highly radioactive. Gamma Waves these are the most intensive and dangerous waves. No real practical uses, just destruction. I'll make it a greenish type plasma energy, very unstable. I imagine it just making stuff explode at the molecular level. Still very rough and still studying and looking stuff up to figure out more uses, any suggestions will be great. Any other questions and comments are more than welcome. I'll start compiling the world and history notes I have so far (which aren't much) and I'll put them up here too if people are interested. I might also tweak and edit this later to make it neater. Too lazy right now.
  6. I totally thought the topic question was meant along the lines of "Where does Brandon Sanderson get it all from", as in, how the heck does he write all of this stuff. I mean, I guess we're pretty clever for figuring a lot of it out, but dang, dude writes a lot of heavy stuff.
  7. Kaladin's father, Lirin, will end up working for Taravangian. It's a wild theory, but I can see it happening under the right circumstances.
  8. Fair enough. But there is still a possibility that Cultivation had enough foresight to see that Lift needed these abilities. Although I now think that here question was something entirely different. Either way, we know Cultivation made Lift somehow semi-exist in the cognitive realm. So that's one hell of a boon. Or maybe it's the curse? We'll need to read more Lift to determine which it is exactly. Because we've certainly seen one, but not the other.
  9. Yes. But I do believe WoB has been that Cultivation is better at seeing the future than the other Shards on the planet. So it is possible she knew ahead of time that The Ring would choose Lift as a a potential Radiant. Just my baseless speculation, though,
  10. Maybe she asked the NightWatcher to get more out of her food? Being a starving child, hoping to not be hungry as often, but Cultivation was just like, "Nah, you're awesome now."
  11. Obviously Jeoffry from Game of Thrones. Visarys was also pretty bad. Ramsay Snow is a bastard, but a clever bastard. So I appreciate him. But he is a bastard. Wheel of Time: Pretty much the whole Trakand bloodline. They're all just horrible, shallow people. Galad is actually my favorite of them. and that's saying something. The Dark Tower Series: Susannah. I just didn't like her. And getting a whole book? Come on. I honestly didn't like too many people from Hunger Games. Gale was alright, but just way too sensitive and petty when it came to Katniss. Under the Dome: Big Jim Rennie. Oh man, that guy was something else. I love hating those "I'm doing what I think is actually best. I somehow view myself as the good guy" characters. Just that smugness! For Sanderson works, I actually enjoy most of his characters. Even the ones we're supposed to hate. Hrathen was a bit silly. Has that aforementioned Big Jim Syndrome.
  12. I believe Rand will definitely marry Avi. Or at least they hook up for a while. She still needs to have her 4 kids from him. And while Avi's work to prevent the bleak Aiel future, I believe it has a sort of inevitability to it. Unless Arthur Hawkings words with Tuon had some effect on her. But the Seanchan ruling absolutely for the next weave of ages fits in with my Saidar Taint theory (or at least I'll make it work into it, somehow).
  13. I think his post was just saying how he wanted to have fun with the Gateways like in WoT. Which he showed how awesome it can be. While gateways would be nifty in SA, I think if he will do teleportation in a different way. Although how friggin' spectacular would it be to open a gateway into the middle of a highstorm in the middle of your opponents army? Edit: Could also use very small gateways into highstorms to instantly charge your gems.
  14. Or for the severely dyslexic. Ya think it reads LSD, then read it as DSL. For all of those influences fast internet has had on Brandon Sanderson's writing.
  15. Hahahaha. Glad I'm not the only one.
  16. Shallan will ignore and avoid Shadesmar until the second last book. Which she will then master it within about a week. The two most beautiful and good looking people will instantly fall in love when they meet. Parshendi humor will be the epitome of comedy. Edit: have to add this one in because it just annoys me so much. Elokhar will hear about an an isolated region of Alethkar that has all but been ignored by the Throne for the last....couple decades, if not generations, and will get very upset when they decide to raise their own Lords and declare themselves independent. Never mind that they don't even know they're supposed to be part of Alethkar, are virtually ignored, and, oh, had to fight off an ungodly horde of Voidbringers all by themselves. But, no. They must submit to the will of the Lighteyes and the Althehi throne. (Ugggghhh I can't stand Elayne. Or Egwene. Or Nynavene. Or almost all lead female characters. I just hate their characters, I'm not sexist. Although Robert Jordan might be....) /rant
  17. So I saw on Twitter ticker that Sanderson tweeted that Amazon Kindle is having a sale for Way of Kings for $1.26. Dunno why, but it's on the Top 50 sellers on Kindle right now, that's pretty nifty. Sadly, I haven't bought any Sanderson books of my own yet, (besides Wheel of Time) so I couldn't pass up this deal. Glad to finally own a Sanderson original, especially my favorite of his. Actually, now thinking about it, this is the first e-book I've ever purchased too. Good deal. Who else is taking the opportunity to snag this sweet sale up?
  18. Just seeing Roshar in an free roaming open world would be majestic. *exploring and random high storm comes and kills you* I'm pretty sure next-gen consoles could make all those spren look amazing... just saying.
  19. upvoted because I have the same exact mentality.
  20. I believe that even if Jasnah does find out about Honor and everything, she'll still be an atheist (at least my bias hopes so). Because I don't think of Shardholders as actual Gods, per se. they're just people with extreme amounts of power. Either way, Vorinism is still probably wrong, so I know that she won't ever go for that. Also, @Lizbusby , yea I meant the Kirtland one. I didn't remember about the two different types. (RLDS and LDS). Even though I did learn about them and read parts of the book, I will admit I don't know too much about eithers' beliefs overall. All I really remember them saying is that was the place where Joseph Smith came and they built that. And I was just like, "Huh. Neat-o". Other than that, I'm not sure. (and yes, this thread has been very pleasant, and that's great. I have honestly been learning a bit more about the LDS religion, and to me, that's just cool. I really like studying all kinds of theologies. Whether or not someone agrees or believes in something, their actions still have a real world effect. And if believing in that makes or allows you to be a good person, then it's alright in my book. You all have been great.)
  21. Oh jeez. I could just imagine a Nalthian rave. You'll have breakdancing flourescent pants and twirling glowsticks everywhere. "Soooo many colors!"
  22. See. I've been thinking. And most people agree TLR could always take Susebron. But.... Susebron has the Divine Breath, and the super huge collection of breaths. Assuming Susebron knows how to awaken a sword, or any other weapon, he could do that. And we've seen how powerful Nightblood can be once fully drawn. I think the God King could rock an Awakened Blade for a while without running out.
  23. Thats why I was a little surprised when I found out he wasn't atheist. I'm just like, "he pulled of Jasnah's views sooo good though". But I think I remember reading Q&A's where he said he went to various online atheist sites and forums, and talked to a lot of nice people and did his research. I was very impressed when I read that.
  24. I have been waiting for a thread like this, actually. But I understand it could become sensitive/offensive really fast. I have always wondered what part Sanderson's religious influences played on his writing. You can tell faith can be a big theme for a lot of characters throughout his works. And I actually have some familiarity with the Church of LDS. (I live right down the road from the first Mormon Church in Kirtland, Ohio and visited and learned about the history of the religion on a fieldtrip). And of course there have been the South Park episodes/Book of Mormon Musical which "educates" people (in a very biased way, I will admit). I'll be the first to say, they do inaccurately portray some things, but I've read the actual Book of Mormon, so I know the differences). And I'll admit, being a self-proclaimed atheist, he nailed Jasnah's character. You can tell he has done his research. And even Sazed and Hrathen and other characters with their crisis' of belief, he has been able to dictate that inter-struggle very accurately. You can just tell he understands the impact these things have on people and the progression of history. Whether you believe in certain things or not, you can acknowledge the impact it has had on humans and civilization. So I appreciate how Sanderson is able to utilize this and incorporate it very flawlessly. creating great, unique worlds. It's fantasy. And great fantasy at that. Edit: If admins don't find this post to be within the guidelines set or anything else wrong, please feel free to remove. I really don't want to upset anybody here or step on any toes. You're all great people here as far as I'm concerned.
  25. Upvote for Tower of God. I'm not too familiar with SIU, if they've done anything else. But Tower of God is a good manga. Or, excuse me. Manwha. (Dang anal koreans). I just like how most of the battles are very 'rule' oriented. Very well thought out. If ya love worldbuilding and fantasy, why not try and check out what Sanderson finished of for Robert Jordan? With14 books, the Wheel of Time series is a juicy few bites to sink your teeth into. And welcome to the forums. (And I agree, there have been quite a few new members from Melbourne recently)
