Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Meh, it's been long enough. I'll say my curse has faded in intensity as my proximity to Kholinar has decreased. Some of it still leaks through, though. Some free-speech game analysis: I was initially blown away by the level of intricacy of this game. When signing up, I really had no idea what to expect. But when it started and right off the bat I was a 17S in three different documents, I quickly grasped the whole point off all the double-layered convoluted elements of the game. The whole Double Spy factor was evil-genius brilliant. It really made everybody second guess everything that was being said and done. It did lead to more discussion taking place in the Docs, and saved the thread for RP, which was perfectly fine for how it was set-up. As a 17S, I knew our only hope was to completely ignore our Dual-Win victories, but I'm sure more than a few of us were starting to second-guess that as a possibility as the Darkeyes started pulling ahead mid-late game. Honestly, the only thing that did give us the edge in the long run were the Boons/Curses. Since everybody could have theoretically gone to the NW and tried receiving some sort of very useful boon, in different playthroughs with this model things could turn out very differently. I do think it is worth noting that so far with all the of the Elimination Games, the ones that have had the most feedback/reactions about 'unpopular' mechanics are the one's that involve some sort of randomness/unpredictability (revelation of Uber abilities Game 2, the mystery item puzzle in Game 5, Nightwatcher, etc.). Obviously, for the flavor of this specific model, the Nightwatcher was a fantastic 'extra' thing for the game. But as some people have mentioned, it can be really hard to even try and account for anything remotely like some of the random things that can happen from those types of events. This will definitely be something that future GM's should remember and take into account for future planning. With that said, I really did love playing this game. The multiple-win conditions and the whole faction v faction mechanics were great, and many upon many kudos and compliments to Rubix and Wilson for running the game so smoothly. This game type will definitely be a nice Standard-Model for anything even remotely similar, and I guarantee it will help influence/spawn countless amazing other games. Once again, great job with everyone involved. It was a real hoot.- 384 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
A few people have asked so I'll clarify this with a seperate post. I do NOT need to be included in PM's between players. That only really needs to be in effect when there's limited means of communication in the game, and since you all can freely PM each other... that'd be way too much for me to keep track of. Thanks for everyone that has asked me about it first, though. Carry on with your regularly scheduled killings.- 503 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thank you everybody! One quick clarification I realized I should make. Drell's Crossing is going to need a new Mayor as soon as they can. When a Mayor is Elected, their vote-boosting power doesn't go into effect until the next Day Cycle. So if you vote a Mayor today, Day 1, then starting tomorrow their votes will be worth 2. You don't have to vote mayor if you don't want to, of course. And I'll say somebody has to have at least 2 votes to be voted Mayor. (You can vote for yourself) These votes for Mayor will occur simultaneously as Lynch votes, and they can be color-coded Orange. -Roles and Alignments will be revealed upon death -The Whitecloak can technically target themselves, but the first part of their power would Role-block him, rendering their targeting of themselves useless a they could then still be targeted by other player. -A Tie in the Mayor Vote for the day will result in nobody getting elected - The Thief-Taker's action happens along with their vote, so they can do both. Since there's no other ways of votes being altered this game, I figured the Thief-Taker would be too obvious if their vote didn't count. -And votes just need to be in before the Day Cycle ends, no other time rush or limit. -As for the Order of Actions during the Night, it will be Normal Actions/Corruptions -> Killing/Saving/Roleblocking powers So if somebody was Corrupted but also targeted for Death on the same night, they would die and show up as corrupted. -The Thief-Taker and Wolfbrother both were highlighted Green in the original post because those two are the only Roles that it's impossible for the Darkfriends to be. I'll update with any other clarifications or anything else as they come or as I think of them.- 503 replies

Reactions to the Dragon Reborn
Gamma Fiend replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in The Wheel of Time
Mat is by the the best character in the books, in my opinion. While everyone else is just off fuming and being angry, Mat just absentmindedly rants it off, grabs a bar wench to sit on his lap, and drinks and gambles the night away. Although his 'sudden' skill with the quarterstaff does also have some other possible explanations once you reach later books. At first I was confused at how he managed that, too, and a lil skeptical, but Mat is just awesome like that, as everybody brings up. (Because it's so true). -

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Day 1: Time to Toss the Dice: Day Cycle Ends Wednesday, June 18th, ~5AM EST The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind bellowed forth from the peak of Dragonmount. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning. (edited in the classic Jordan intro. Something felt like it was missing. Sorry for making it even longer.) Mayor Twim Cabalen was busy working late into the night, he had stayed up alone to set up the Town Hall for the meeting that was to take place tomorrow, but he kept getting distracted for some reason. A rustling sound from outside, or a cold stiff breeze that was unnatural for this time of year blowing through the open window. Not for the first time that night his hand strayed to his hip, where he now carried his sword. It had been almost twenty years since he had strapped it on, but the weight was surprisingly comfortable. As if it was a part of him that he had just been without for all that time. At first he hand been reluctant to bring the blade out but he now knew it was the right thing to do. Seeing this will help the Villagers' morale, he thought as he stroked the heron-mark etchings that were on the blade. It was a sign that he was a Blademaster. He had fought and rose to prominence during the Aiel War, and for his bravery and skill he exhibited at the Battle of the Shining he had been awarded the rank by a council of other Blademasters. So caught up in the memory of that ferocious battle that for a second he thought he could almost smell it. The sulfurous reek of the vile wind that poured forth from the top of Dragonmount, that single horrible mountain that almost touched Tar Valon with it's shadow. He could almost even smell the dull, metallic stench of the buckets blood that had spilled upon the battlefield and stained the white snows red! It wasn't until he heard a noise behind him that he realized something was wrong. He quickly turned, falling into Leopard in the Tree, a stance with his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to strike. “Oh, Light!” He exclaimed as something that defied belief happened in front of his very eyes. “The Light can't help you now.” A deep, distorted voice chuckled as a figure shrouded in a cloak of shadows stepped from a shimmering door-frame. From the glowing frame came a fierce, warm wind carrying with it that heavy, pungent smell of sulfur, and looming in the background was that fierce peak that thrust towards the heavens. Dragonmount. Mayor Twim was speechless, but only his honed reflexes that had earned him the rank of Blademaster saved his life as the shadow moves forward in a liquid motion and struck at him with a sword made out of smoke with the sword form Viper Flick's It's Tounge. He was too surprised to say anything else and only his body's instincts allowed him to automatically counter with Cat Dances on the Wall. His opponent knocked aside the strike and returned with Board Rushes Down the Mountain, a series of overhead aggressive blows that drove him backwards. “Your worthless village of Drell's Crossing will be destroyed.” Gloated the shadow. “The Great Lord has commanded us to spread Chaos. We will kill and spread agony all across this land so when Tarmon Gai'dan finally comes, you pathetic mortals will kneel down and beg for the Lord of Chaos to release you from your suffering!” Mayor Twim let go of his fears and emotions and fed them into The Void. The single flame in the centre of his mind he could float in, not distracted by his thoughts or feelings, he fed it with his anger rising up inside of him. He stoked the fire with his rage, letting it flare up but he kept it all contained within that single point within the Void. And with that he focused all of that onto the monster in front of him. He planted his spun out of the way as his opponent ended the rain of blows with Threading the Needle, a quick jab at his shoulder. He countered with The Swallow Takes flight, forcing the Darkfriend to counter with Parting the Silk and driving them backwards. The blade may have been made from smoke, but it had met his sword blow for blow and the wielder was easily a Blademaster with practiced, well maneuvered sword forms. “I don't care what your bloody master has ordered you to do! You shall not have this town! Light burn you!” Roared Twim as he surged forward with Striking the Spark, using the fuel from the tempest of his emotions inside the void. He was almost out of control, his whole body slick with sweat and he trembled slightly. “I am Doom,” the Darkfriend replied as they quickly stopped, parried the strike, and side-stepped around him. “I am death for you and yours. I am Forsaken.” Mayor Twim gasped was so startled by the delcaration that he didn't see the Forsaken raise their other hand as a second blade appeared into it and pierced his heart it. He screamed out in pain as his blade slipped from his fingers and dropped to the ground with a clang. He fell to his knees and began to gasp for breath. The smoke formed sword dissolved from inside his chest in a misty vapour, and he began to feel the blood pooling out from him, his body still too in shock to feel the pain just yet. “I will watch this city burn.” The Forsaken cried with glee. “Me and my followers will make it a pyre and the cacophony of the screams and cries of mercy will echo from here to The Blight itself! Blood feeds blood. Blood calls blood. Blood is, and blood was, and blood shall ever be." The darkness that was hiding at the edge of Twim's vision began to creep in and the dull burn began to spread from his chest."The Dark One and all the Forsaken are bound in Shayol Ghul," he panted in between sharp, painful breaths, "bound by the Creator at the moment of Creation, bound until the end of....." He began to trail off. "-bound until the en-... the en-...." He closed his eyes and drifted away to the sound of laughter. "The End of Time." The voice whispered in reply. *** Outside, sitting in the darkest reaches of the shadows, Padan Fain watched on in amusement as the so-called "Chosen One" played with their victim's corpse, making an even bigger mess of the entire town hall. Padan Fain had different sorts of plans. Why murder people when you could recruit them instead? Thick, rolling fog began to blanket the town, burying it in a shrouded veil off in the distances wolves could faintly be heard, howling at the moon. *** The following morning Mayor Twim's remains were found, his corpse had been hacked to pieces and strewn about the Town Hall, and over on the wall was a message written in blood. “Dovie'andi se tovya sagain." OOC: Apologies for the delayed Write-up. Since there will be 48 hours, hopefully that should be enough time for everybody to get on and get some discussion going. There is at least one of each Role, so PM's are a go and everything else. Any questions, just ask in here or via the PMs you received your Roles in and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! If you have any other problems or questions, Meta will be the mod sitting out for this game so feel free to go to him with anything. Good luck and enjoy, everybody! Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
You all will be happy to know, your humble GM has been hard at work trying to get a fantastic write-up going. I might have gone a little overboard, but eh. One problem I encountered: I looked at the time and realized I had been writing on and on and forgot about Game of Thrones. O.o Apologies for any extra temporary delay, but I will try and get the write-up posted by a reasonable time. If I can't get it posted until some odd-morning hours, and that conflicts with people's schedules a little bit, I could extend the Day Cycle a little extra to put it on track for a reasonable time for future write-ups.- 503 replies

Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Storms, and here I was convinced you had some sort of a kill weapon. O.o Started to put together that Whistling was linked to your curse somehow, from the thread title and Rubix hiding clues to our past Boons/Curses in the same way. (Slaughter in the Streets was the Day I received my sword). Sorry, by the way Mon, you totally called my betrayal. Several of us Sharders decided in the beginning of the game that we basically had to work together to work as a team, you know, to rep the Forum. Shame, it would be, if the 17S lost their first time around, right? (S)laughter also basically cemented the fact I had to betray the Merchants, since I had to feed people from one of my loyal teams to it. Speaking of which, my exact wording for my Boon was on the first night I asked to be able to 'Kill with Laughter'. Since I decided at that point I was basically The Joker on Roshar, but Aodan's Boon was granted instead. Second Night I made my request in the form of RP where Magam strode up to the Nightwatcher, called her an old goat, and demanded she give me an Awakened Sword named Laughter. (Since I apparently wasn't clear enough on what I wanted the first night) Surprised I received the weapon instead of being struck down, actually. O.o Some of my later RPs after I had received my curse were obviously cut down in length, and they started portraying a weakened/vulnerable Magam. Speculation could determine that these were just the results of the Insanity Magam was experiencing from his curse and his main speaking companion being an Awakened Sword. She was named after Magam's old friend, Silence, back on Threnody, incidentally. Similar sense of humour, too...- 384 replies

Slaughters rules were it needed someone to Feed off of to work. So it was two(?) nights ago I tried feeding off Lyla but the Ardent power protects from that as well, so since her feed didn't go through I didn't make a kill that evening.- 384 replies

WOOT! We got out 25 players! I will leave sign-ups technically open til around 7-8PM but I'm not really expecting any more sign-ups before then, so I'll start working on getting this Current List assigned their Roles/Factions. I'll try and get everything done and sent out before Game of Thrones starts tonight, but there's no promises I won't get distracted by the Season Finale.- 503 replies

Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Super quick question: Should I still speak with my curse, or am I free of it's reign now that the game is over? Slightly surprised that nobody noticed all of my Sentences Starting with 'S's since Day 3. *shrugs* So once I get a clarification on whether I'm still Cursed or not, I can start typing up an analytical post of the game and all what transpired. Super well played though, everyone! Shadows, we 17S we quite scared at a few different points and Rengar's curse to join the 17S was probably the only way we were able to turn it out. Slaughter, my Awakened Sword, worked by giving me a Kill, but I also had to 'feed' somebody from either of the teams I was Loyal to to power it. So every night I effectively fed it with a Merchant. Sorry about that, guys. >.<- 384 replies

Very nice. I will say, Book 6 is always counted among one of my favorites, and a lot of other peoples. I remember when I first got to that book I was pretty blown away. You can tell that's when Robert Jordan starts to get into full swing with the World and his writing. I re-read would be pretty nice at that point because a lot has happened at that point, and there's tons of small little hidden details and subtle hints as to what's coming up. Of course, a lot of people will say that books 7-10 you're in for a little bit of a trek. Those books get criticized the most for the "slowness" and annoying people/events. While they do make a fair point, I really don't think it's that bad. And depending on what elements of the story you've liked so far, you can either love them or not care for them. So coming in strong off of a 6-book re-read marathon should give you plenty of momentum to plow through those books and right on through to Brandon Sanderson's amazing finish. Just remember, you're not even halfway there yet. There is still so much amazing things happen. Keep on reading!

Hey, guys, why am I afraid of my post count?
Gamma Fiend replied to Quiver's topic in General Discussion
Why did the Chicken cross the road? Because I made it into a Lifeless and gave it a command to. What has four wheels and flies? Kaladin carrying tires. How many people on Roshar does it take to change a lightbulb? Three. One person to Soulcast the lightbulb, one Ardent to lecture the person on using the Soulcaster outside of the church, and one Shallan to plan and steal said fabrial. Also, rumor has it that if you whisper Nalan's name into the mirror three times in a row, he will appear and slay you with a Shardblade.- 66 replies

Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Slowly Magam crept out from the shadows looking ragged and disheveled, his once fine clothing torn and ripped in many places, stained and dirtied from endless nights hiding out in random, empty buildings. Several people stopped and stared as he limped by them, covering their mouths while whispering and pointing at him, spreading tales about various deeds and misdeeds he had performed. Some of them were true, but many more were lies and exaggerations that had spread like the fires and riots through Kholinar. "Shadows," he muttered to himself, still to weak to talk loudly, "I should have just stayed in the forests. So what if it was Hell? Sitting in the bloody dark, being too afraid to run or even strike a simple spark is still better than dealing with these storms and this unbearably droll world." Setting the fires had been fun at first, of course, there was a definite undeniable pleasure of being able to strike a spark freely and break the other two of the Three Laws as well. Slitting the one child's throat a few days back had been when he was still feeling the Thrill of his new found freedom, but it had quickly lost it's charm. Sparing the child from the Chaos that had ensued throughout the city was a weak excuse, Magam, knew, but it was still what he told himself going forward.- 384 replies

Long Game 6: Daes Dae'Mar, The Great Game
Gamma Fiend replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Mayor Twim Cabalen strode through the Village Green shaking hands and thanking the people for staying back and helping while simultaneously barking orders to whoever needed proper directions. Initially he had been very pleased with the number of volunteers who stepped forward to defend the village, especially by the number of foreigners and out of towners, but the original flood had slowed down to a trickle. He knew the number of people might be enough for a proper defense, but he would feel comfortable with a few more hands to help out around town. Douza, the blacksmith's apprentice, scurried along each carrying an arm full of weapons over to the training ground where Leas Fel was directing a number of people, trying to give them a crash course in soldier training. Shouts and the clacks of practice swords and spears filled the air and the whole village was abuzz with activity. Nearby, Dellan was excitedly recounting the story of his daring escape from the trollocs and how he had even slain one to Khamsi, the Domani gleewoman who nodded her head in the right parts of the tale and slowly plucked random notes on her violin, trying to ignore the foul smell that hung in the air. Mayor Twim wrinkled his nose at the scent as well, even though it was his command that all lumber be saved for barricades and defense purposes, forcing everybody to start burning the manure that Trimat was selling for night fires and cooking. He couldn't shake the feeling, but he was nervous for some reason. He knew he could lead these people, so it wasn't that. His service in the military and fighting in the Aiel War twenty years ago had taught him all he needed to know about fighting and leadership. But there was something else that was nagging at the back of his mind. A sly whisper that bubbled up from his subconscious and made him ask himself if all of these people could really be trusted. He shook his head to drive the thoughts away and stopped in the middle of the town green to gather everybody's attention. "In two days time there will be a Town Meeting!" He declared loudly for all to hear. "There we can begin discussing strategies and back-up plans and figure out how we're going to survive this bloody mess. Until then, continue on." He was always a man of few words, but he always reckoned that gabbing somebody's ear off was a job of the Women's Circle. He gave a few more commands and went off to go see how the dirt mound and spear wall that were being erected around the town were coming along. He had no idea where that Bob Dirt fellow -- a fake name if he ever heard one -- had come by all of that soil, but he was going to put whatever he had to good use. The trollocs were coming, and he would not let anything get in his way from saving his city. Not even the Dark One himself. Phew. That went a lot longer than I thought. Apologies to those who weren't included in the RP, I just wanted to get that community feeling going and included as many as I could without going on and on. As Mayor Twim kindly narrated for us, it would be preferable if there were a few more people to sign-up, but the 20 players we have so far will be enough to run the game. I was going to probably start the game-up and send the roles out around Sunday night (the 15th), probably around 8PM EST or so, if that's good with everybody. If not I can easily wait for Monday. But I'm looking forward to running this and thank you everybody for signing up and participating and I hope this will be a lot of fun!- 503 replies

If stormlight archive was the wheel of time
Gamma Fiend replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Life wouldn't be awesome, she would just tug on her braids all day long. Szeth will become increasingly whiny and unstable for the duration of the first 9 books, only to have a conversation with himself atop the tallest mountain to reverse his whole attitude and become the Hero everybody needs him to be. Nobody will ever respect Kaladin because he should just be a farmer. Mr. T and the Diagram would be be a minor antagonist that only shows up every few books to mess with/taunt Kaladin. When the Final Battle does eventually come, Adolin will be immune to the plottings of the Diagram and will be able to kill Mr. T in one blow. Eshonai will feel bad for a few books because she no longer has any toh. Keep 'em coming! -
Each coin would be 1D6 roll and then I'd add up the totals. That way those who gamble more do have that much more of a chance to win, but there's still always that gamble 1roll could beat 3, technically.

Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Since this is a multi-faction game, the 17S aren't the biggest concern, actually. Sharders aren't the only enemy in this game and eliminating us won't end anything or give the other teams a victory, it will just allow the Darkeyes to swoop in for the victory. Several darkeyes keep saying we're manipulating and lying to you but we're the ones actually being the most honest right now by telling you how the numbers actually are. Shardblading Aonar wasn't a way for them just to appease the other factions, Ashiok was on his way out and Aonar was already in the spotlight and being targeted from all around. So all it was was a gesture to try and get you to trust them so they have that much easier of a time winning.- 384 replies

So, I've been working on a new game mechanic to introduce with my next WoT game I already started planning. I wanted to introduce this particular idea first, so other people could give feedback and maybe even try it out in some of their Main Games, if they so wish. May I present to you: Gambling: This game will also use a Currency system. Players will each start with a certain amount of coins. (In units of 1, 2, 3 etc.). Players can earn a Coin each cycle. You just need to post and vote during the Day Cycle and you’ll get a coin. During the Night Cycle, if you send in a PM with your Action and post in the thread, you’ll earn a coin. (If you don't have an action or don't want to use your night action, still send in a PM saying 'No action' and that will count.) During the Night Cycle, you can Gamble via PM. Each Coin you Gamble counts as 1 die roll, so the more you bet, the higher chance you have of winning. The Winner gets all of the Coins gambled +1coin. (To ensure that even if there is 1 person gambling they still earn some reward). Player with the highest rolled score wins the gamble. During the Day Cycle, Items can be bought with Coins or you can Bribe other players with Coins to buy their Vote. (You tell the GM you want to Bribe X player. X player receives a PM via the GM telling them their vote wants to be bought for however many Coins offered. If that players accepts you get to chose the new target for their vote.) So both the Briber and the Bribee need to have voted for this to be valid. In my game I'll have items like ter'angreals and whatnot that can be purchased and used. And a couple of different voter-mechanic roles, so Bribes can become pretty important for those close votes. But what do you guys think of the concept overall?

Mid-Range Game 1: The Stormfather and The Nightwatcher
Gamma Fiend replied to Rubix's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Suddenly the sky had turned dark and a ferocious storm had come barreling in out of the west, taking the entire city by surprise and halting the rioters in their tracks as they fled for safety. Some of them didn't make it in time and were swept away by the flooding waters that filled the streets. Screams were drowned out by howling winds and the relentless thunder that had raged for a day. Scared and weak, Magam had spent the entirety of the storm hiding underneath piles of old furniture, cowering in fear and waiting for it to end. Several times in the beginning of the storm he had heard people pounding and begging to be let in, but he was so paralyzed in his trepidation that he was unable to move until eventually the pleas for help had stopped. Shadows gathered as the storm passed and eventually there was nothing to be heard but silence.- 384 replies
