  1. Much as I enjoyed it, I have to say my part in the game was relatively boring. If you started off normal, there wasn't really anything to do other than vote or enter the Breath lottery and hope for the best. I guess I should have made a better attempt to pay attention and follow everything. Oh well. Whether I get a special role in Game 5 or not, I will do better. This I swear! And I just wonder... If the Pahn Kahl doc alone was 65k words, how many words total were related to the game? Counting the open thread, any game related PMs, and the dead doc, it would well have amounted to a Brandon book's worth of words. Wow.
  2. Looks like the PK were pretty convinced I was a Mercenary for a bit there. Heh. I played the game pretty straightforwardly, not making a single lie the entire time (that I recall, and if I did it was not significant).
  3. I actually think the rank "Son of Honor" is not in reference to the organization but to the scene in WoK in which the Stormfather refers to Kaladin as Son of Honor.
  4. You're welcome! Yeah, I've seen magic systems referred to as manifestations of Investiture, particularly the Metallic Arts, as the actual type of Investiture is not as easy to define as it is on Nalthis or Roshar with Breath and Stormlight.
  5. Ditto on the writeups. I didn't really pay attention to the threads, but I never stopped reading the writeups. They were brilliant. The bar has been set high for Mailliw73 in Game 5. And oh my goodness on the length of the PK doc. That is two Emperor's Soul's worth of words. I am speechless.
  6. Yeah, Breath itself is no younger than Stormlight. I think the confusion stemmed from the fact that the term Investiture is often used to refer both to the actual Investiture itself (the power of a Shard) and the magic system the Investiture is used in. It cam get kind of confusing from time to time.
  7. Even though I died on Day 4, good game everybody, once again! I am really excited for the next ones, and hope there will be another Nalthis game some time soon! I now know that the lack of thought I put into the game was not helpful to me. You guys are very tricky. I need to step up my game. And storms, is the Pahn Kahl doc huge.
  8. Alas, these novels are not yet written. The best I can do is direct you to Cosmere 101 and the Coppermind wiki (which seems to be having issues at the moment). These should help. Also, if you ever have a specific question, the Question and Answer thread is helpful. I would also be happy to answer questions through PM, if you wish.
  9. Very, very interesting speculation, maxal. That would explain a lot, were it true. Your idea is also interesting, Aleksiel. I have for a while at least part believed Jasnah is gay. If she or someone she knew were abused, that would only go to increase her negativity toward men.
  10. 17th Shard, why must you be so addictive? I was supposed to be productive today

Productivity? Sounds interesting. Is it anything like constant, rambling theorizing?

  11. From the site rules page: So yes, there are rules. Let's stay civil, please. Jasnah is harder to say. Renarin lives in a world where soldiering is literally considered the most holy profession. His brother and father are two of the best warriors there are. He has epilepsy and therefore cannot fight. He has autism so has difficulties communicating. That can most certainly break someone. Elhokar, we don't even know will be a Radiant. However, his paranoia could well contribute to brokenness. It has been speculated that Adolin's killing Sadeas will break him enough to become a Radiant. Shallan killed both her mother and her father and had to live for years with that as well as a violent father and a broken home. She has had it the worst. Kaladin lost Tien, the brother he loved so much and constantly blames himself for everything. He is pretty broken. Edit: ninja'd
  12. Please use more proper English conventions. I have written dozens if not hundreds of coherent posts on my phone. Note that Renarin also could have been afraid of triggering a seizure, so that was an added factor in the screaming being bad for him. About Szeth, no one is saying he is evil. Of course, to Nightblood, everyone is evil. But the point is that Szeth is an uncontrolled individual. We have seen him go on killing sprees before when directed to. Since he is going after the Stone Shamanate, with whom he has a bone to pick, he could well go nuts with Nightblood in a very terrifying way.
  13. To kind of restore this topic to its original intent, I mentioned to Claincy in the Elsa Steelheart thread that I almost certainly saw Swimmingly as a Surgebinder at 1300. I wonder why Surgebinder and Knight Radiant are two separate ranks. I know not all Surgebinders are Knights Radiant, but I wouldn't necessarily consider the separately, particularly not one so far above the other.
  14. Welcome, Griff, since I haven't seen any of you posts yet! To answer your questions, I think people got so excited about Vasher and Nightblood because 1. We love cosmere crossovers, and they were pretty much the two most blatant crossovers we've yet seen, 2. People genuinely like Vasher and Nightblood as characters. I personally thought they had a cool dynamic, and 3. Because it will he fascinating to see how both of them interact with Roshar and its Investiture. We get really excited about the ways different types of Investiture function and interact, how they are similar and different. Vasher invites some cool speculation about the similarities between Stormlight and Breath. Nightblood is even more fascinating, particularly given some WoBs we have that he is the same thing as a Shardblade. That means that his Cognitive aspect is similar to that of spren and... I think you get the point. About Renarin. First of all, he has actually always had a lot of attention from readers (FeatherWriter always comes to mind when he is mentioned, but he has long been a fan favorite in general). Second, when it is closely considered, Renarin is actually a great, logical choice for a Radiant. His life situation has certainly left him broken to an extent, which is definitely a large part of Radiantness. There has been some speculation/attention given to the relation between Radiants and mental illness, given that Kaladin has Seasonal Affective Disorder and suicidal thoughts, Shallan is self-delusional, there's been some speculation Dalinar has mild bipolar disorder. Renarin's autism makes him fit in with them. The reasons he is a Radiant, a Truthwatcher in particular, will without doubt become clearer with the next books, but overall I wouldn't call his being a Radiant surprising, neither logically or for his being a minor character. Edit:
  15. That is gone, never to be spoken of again. A dark corner in the history of 17th Shard.
  16. Just saying, I'm not convinced Roshar humans are Honor and Cultivation's creation. But the spren (those that are of both, and not Adonalsium spren or Odium spren, if he has them) totally. I agree that the Intent is an important part of it. In order to fulfill it, Shards must have something to work with. This necessitates humans, or at least life.
  17. Sas nahn on the forehead would be pretty awesome. Some time a bunch of us need to do this then at the signing talk about obscure Realmatic stuff so no one else knows what we're talking about. Then we'll be literal Cryptics.
  18. Not fair! But no, I don't think it would work anyways.
  19. I kill your dreams! It wouldn't work! (I don't think; I'm often wrong.)
  20. I don't quite understand your question, but if you are asking how Preservation and Ruin can be held by humans if they made humans, the answer is that all Shards originally were held by humans from Yolen, the planet on which Adonalsium was Shattered. Yolen had humans before all this, and some of the Shards based their humans on Yolen humans.

Go pick it up. 9 May 14, 06:08 PM Kaladin: Gaz, give that man his spheres back now! *pins Gaz to a wall 9 May 14, 03:03 PM Gaz: Oh, were those his Spheres I found out in the Storm? I just assumed they were free. *Walks away Whistling* 9 May 14, 11:05 AM Awesomeness: did you at least get all your spheres recharged?
  23. Maybe the Map of Roshar. Or Pattern. Edit: 666th post! I think I'll stop here for the night just to creep anyone who reads my posts out.
  24. Hmmm. I don't think so. Consider that it took 1000 Nalthians worth of Investiture to make Nightblood. It would take a lot of Investiture to fill a nicrosilmind to that point. Also, part of the reason Nightblood became a Splinter is that he received an Intent along with all the Investiture. This most likely significantly aided/sped up the process of his gaining sentience and Splinterhood (?). The Investiture in a nicrosilmind does not have that same sort of focus, so indolent believe it would become a Splinter. Good thought, though.
