  1. http://images.wikia.com/stormlightarchive/images/2/2d/TWoK_Rear_Endsheet.jpg I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I'm not fluent enough with this website (yet) to conduct extensive searches. ...Also, this is the first time I've been in front of a computer I could access this site from in about 2 weeks, so time, 'tis a harsh task master...and.... Anyway, my point would be related to the above image, which presumably depicts the Ten Orders of Voidbringers and their Surges. Unlike the simple lines which connect the Ten Orders of Knights Radiant to their Surges, the connections for the Voidbringers appear to be lighting bolts. (Well, actually, lighting bolts appear all over that image.) And, while I'm not exactly for or against the thought that the Parshendi/Parshman are the Voidbringers, I do find this image very interesting. Namely, what form has recently been (re)discovered by the Parshendi?
  2. There is some speculation in others topics that Shinovar is the location of where the Heralds left their Blades. My point isn't so much about that, but more along the lines that perhaps one of the tenants of Stone Shamanism is that humanity won in the last desolation. If Szeth found evidence he believes proves the Voidbringers are still a real threat it could rock a pinnacle foundation of his religion. We've all seen examples of how far a religion will go to protect itself. Thus Szeth is made Truthless. Perhaps being truthless is a spiritual quest to show Szeth there are no more Voidbringers...only horrible examples of humanity.... -Edited because phones are horrible to type on.
  3. Phsst. Shallan would still be follwing after Jasnah, always one step behind. Teft would of considered telling Kaliden about the KR and surgebinding but wouldn't have. Jasnah would have a braid. Axehounds would be seen throughout Shadesmar.
  4. It's feasible as an ultimate motive I suppose. And winning the fight over Odium would go quite a long way towards reforming Adonalsium.
  5. Question: Has anyone put forth the thought that perhaps the 17S has no intention of either recreating or replacing Adonalsium? Perhaps their only interest is to simply make sure Hoid fails in this task. After all, what would happen to the shardworlds if Adonalsium were reforged?I believe Brandon said the 17S does not agree with what Hoid is doing. Hoid writes this same thought to the recipient of the Letter. Any thoughts as to whether it could just be that easy? ... The 17S wants to keep Adonalsium as 16 Shards. This would also give a meaning to their name: they're the 17th Shard trying to keep the other 16 Shards from reforming. Meh. Could be wrong. Or there are probably several other topics which state this idea. If so, my apologies.
  6. Hmm. I wonder...would a combination of Transformation/Growth create Mystique?
  7. Quick hello. I'd be Barry. Avid reader. I think Brandon Sanderson is one of the greatest modern storytellers. I'm a Captain in the US Army. Currently stationed in South Korea. Coming to this site is one of the things I do in my free time.
  8. So. What's it say that I have no clue how to even start. From what I can see it has something to do with the OP's name. Right? Sheesh it's difficult trying to do this during my 15 mins of personal cell phone use every few hours. In the field right now.
  9. While I realize this may be off topic, is there anywhere one can read the entirety of the Lift Interlude? I've read the section which can be found in the Readings topic but it would be awesome to see it all.
  10. Hello from Korea all. My first wall: Going with the context of the books thus far, I would have to say that assassination might be a(n almost) purely feminine pursuit. These are the Alethi we're talking about, a society where it is seemingly acceptable to abandon* the bulk of one's competition to complete destruction as long as it does not risk the kingdom*. Assassination is quite work. The Alethi High Princes (and I'll go out on a limb here and say most of the male nobles in Roshar) (Taravangian nonewithstanding) are anything but quite. * pulled from the text of tWoK Now, granted, those two quotes above really only say that Dalinar had nothing to do with Elhokar's bumbled assassination attempt on himself (sans weakened gemstones, of course), but they do shine on light on the way the nobles of Alethi think. Why assassinate someone when you can just call them out in a duel...or simply kill them outright? That's bold. That shows strength. That's winning. Seems to me an assassin, or rather the person who hires one, would be considered a coward. (I'll admit that coward is perhaps not the right word in this situation.) Now, to bring this ramble a little more on point: I'm not really surprised at all that Jasnah employs assassins, either in the utilization of their typical skills or as spys/overwatch. It's my opinion that Jasnah could be considered the current Matron of her family. She's the cool one. The analytical one. The one who seeks to protect those around her. She sees what is coming and is doing everything possible to find a solution. (Navani is a woman of gossip and passions, a politican and dabbler of fabrials. I'm not saying this doesn't make a matron, but it does seem to me that Jasnah is the one doing what it takes to keep her family safe. Afterall, Navani returns to the Shattered Planes because she feels she has not place in the capital. ... .. ...I do like Navani as a character. I really do. Ahhh. Never mind.) I'm not sure, but I don't think fighting and assassination really have any relation to one another. In the context of the subject matter, fighting involves banging one's sword/spear against their enemy's sword/spear until one is no longer able to do so. Assassination, on the other hand, is killing someone. There's no real fighting envolved...or at least I'm sure the assassin hopes so. All that to say perhaps assassination is gender neutral. One final note: If we're to look for Lyss on the Shattered Planes...shouldn't we be looking for a male character?
  11. New to the 17th, but I've always enjoyed this question: Hands down my favorite book is The Count of Monte Cristo. I've read it once a year for the past 21 years and the story is still as exciting now as it was when I was 11.
  12. Probably mentioned elsewhere, but perhaps the "monster" in the safe is a corrupted sprin.
  13. New here, so if this has been asked I apologise, but how can Demoux and Galladon be seen in WoK if their stories took place long before the events of SA begin? Galladon I understand, I suppose, but Demoux?
