  1. we didnt hear anything about stuff getting damaged in this turnament/brawl thing. few options. -> this turnament area is very large, the LoR never hit anything. ->LoR has a very limited range ->LoR does not damage things. ->LoR only hit circles and used its energy/power up? ->like with the "advanced" calklings from Melody, it depends what the rithmatist wants it todo. edit:->maybe it required the rune/sign of rending to be effective. edit:->maybe it does only effect calk. any and all of thouse, we need more knowledge to be sure.
  2. maybe the quality of the circle does not matter so much when you are allready in a loosing fight. you might get a little more time out of it, but the point is, not to get to a point were youre circle gets attacked. so its a realy a question about speed, to get youre calk out and take quick advantage. sure you want a good circle, thats why you train so much, but speed is key.
  3. ok the cover looks good, but why would anyone get in a stance like this? Oo for someone so accustomed to combat/readyness, its even more odd - i mean you cant get much more out of balance.
  4. gathering knowledge from books is very common in fantasy worlds. so common i would say this is part of most of them. so i dont see anything special here. except for stormlight archives, because men rule and dont read.
  5. there is some kind of short story about the creation of the bore, i dont remember much, but you might find some answers there.
  6. you dont realy need help to use the trick to make a circle with a string, the question is why is this way never mentioned in the book. would be less difficult to remember the binding points on a circle with the same size each time. guess there are reason we dont know. im not sure if a larger cricle is stronger then a smaller one
  7. i think its alot of Kaladin =( - but we should remember there is the most change to come. and keep in mind, all thouse ppl are at the same place. Kaladin is guarding dalinars family/extended. which includes more or less all pov characters we know from the first book, except Szeth.
  8. uh with rithmatists only, you can split the work, one does everything for the left side the other for the right side - or something like that =) but youre right, if they both want to draw in the same directions they will be an obstacle for eachother.
  9. we dont know if Shallan would see cryptics(her cryptic?) in mirrors too. it seems that Sly/(spren) can change her body, maybe to look like a cryptic? so maybe someone else could be bound to the cryptic and he asked/send the cryptic to follow/spy/terrorice Elhokar. would be a very effective way, we dont know any way to prevent it.
  10. uh i realy think a non rithmatist in a circle with a rithmatist is a huge disadvatage. first you need to create a larger circle which is more difficult and can easyly result in a weaker one. next is that you cant ignore different directions in thouse duels, which means you need to draw in alot of directions quickly. -> with another person in the circle, you have an obstacle all the time, you need to work around him, maybe even move in circles within the circle -> makes it more difficult to observe youre oponents. with a larger circle you need to move more, to be able to draw youre actions outside the circle. a larger circle means it is a larger target for youre oponents. most or maybe even all thouse disadvantages go away, if you work only with rithmatists.
  11. uh i think this is funny, we havent seen real battle, but you dicide whats good or bad strategy. maybe the point is more to cover alot of space then to stay close together, who knows whats going on at the tower. i actualy wonder why they are tought special and more math. do you need math to draw a circle or an eclipse? maybe we will learn why math is so importand when we learn more from future books. btw when the masters watched the turnament, they spoke about rithmatist teams, even greather as 2 which used just one circle. the fight was actualy very odd, because Joel seemd not to have any strategic overview at the end, because he didnt even realise they had won. (how can you fight in a good way when you dont have a clue, who you fight against.) i would go as far as to say the ending of that fight was very poor written, because before in the book, it was allways about watching the oponent, to use the corret strategy. but all this is a bit off-topic, maybe we should start something new?
  12. we know that sly and windspren can "play" with the physical world. with this in mind i would say that different spren are attracted to different things. like a creation spren to an artist performing. now lets quickly look at children - if they find something interresting - a fire, an antnest, whatever - what will they do? - they poke it, they try to play with it. since spren are able to interact with the physical worlds and see some things as interresting. they will interact with thouse sometimes. just to play. humans do silly things, just because we can --spren can interact with the world, they will do so, just because they can. so an attracted creation spen may interact with the artist in some way - propably make him work better, maybe change the colors a bit - idk most spren seem to have some kind of group behaviour. something they think is very interresting, is creating or attracting larger and larger groups of them odd here is that kaladin is so honorable to give sly an option to bind him, but we never see other honor spren near him.
  13. maybe there is a time component how long you can stay a calkling until there is no way back. btw dont forget that harding had lots of calklings when he took thouse ppl, if they were all wild calklings where did he hide them. where did he take the lost ppl. there is more to this thing then we have seen.
  14. i think you go to far with the soulcasters. you would make "music" with youre mouse/keyboard too, because you use/tap different buttons. a soulcaster is more like a crude tool for me, which propably interacts with youre mind. we are lacking alot of info here too. i can agree that music maybe part/enhances of magic. but not of the tool =) just see the other fabricals, the seem like tools you turn on/of. on another note, would be funny seeing Szeth breathing in stormlight and play a flute with it lol. about the sound you hear when something is soulcast to smoke/gas. brandon said there is no wight loss by soulcasting, so if you turn something so smoke/gas, then this is compressed smoke/gas. there is no force holding it together so it will expand very quickly, creating sound. you can be right and there is additional sound, by using magic, but in this case there has to be sound, because of the expansion.
  15. idk which part of the book this is. so if it is in the 2. part of the book, or even near the end, lots can happen before this. i dont think this part will be before Jasnah and Shallan arives. no lighteyes would speak about a "voidbringer threat" without some widespread backup/acceptence of voidbringers. he would need to fear to realy sound crazy. so maybe there is even some encounter with voidbringers before this happens.
  16. hmm with other spren i would agree with you, but with honor spren? just think what is/was honorable in asia and japan - for some part it is compleatly different in the western world. interresting point - is it enough that you think you do something honorable, or when it is precived honorable, or has it to be honorable from the sprens view. atleast for the highprinces a honorable lifestyle seems very odd if not crazy. but i agree there must be some other factor. too many ppl that it does not happen a few times. in addition there seems to be some odd way to get powers like Szeth. maybe the desolation must be starting, but this would make it very odd for the Radiants, because they would loose power between desolations and would disband.
  17. if it is realy about attracting spren, and a special type of them, then most of the world does not like thouse "divine" actions now. it feels like vorinism trys to keep the ppl away from getting magic powers. if vorinism ideals would attract special spren, then we would hear alot more about magic(lots and lots of ppl atracting them). but the only active magic we hear about, is the old magic and the use of fabricals. so either there is another requirement to bind a spren, or they all do the wrong stuff. what is special about Shallan and Jasnah?
  18. i wonder about thouse orders in general. are they a human thing or are they depending on the spren(s) you bind or even a law of nature? can you bind just one spren, or more? does one spren typ reflect one order and their abilities? so if you want to be a windrunner(like Kaladin) you have to bind a honnor spren if it is compleatly dependend on the spren you bind, i see big problems, there are so many different spren, more then there are orders. can you loose youre bond spren?(think this happend to Szeth) -> what happens to youre abilities? edit: dont want to post again =) - just wanted to say thanks windrunner =)
  19. i think there are alot of influrences. fighting styles propably depend alot on the weapon. for normal weapons it is based on. -the weapons length, balance and wight. -the type of weapon you fight against. -the number of oponents you fight at once. -> there are just things you dont do with a heavy weapon, because you would tire faster. here in stormlight archives come new factors. like shardplate -so you can use larger weapons, or have much more endurrence. -when you fight against a person using a shardplate, you cant be hit by them or you die. so you need something quick, evasive. then come shardblades. thouse have new issuses - you propably need to learn a very different style of fighting. ->youre weapon is not stopped by anything - so no need for forcefull strikes. ->you can easly hurt youre own ppl ->quick strikes are more rewarding i would go as far as to say a shardblade is a different weapon compared to a sword. it is just like a sword when you fight another person with a shardblade. all of thouse styles and different strikes of thouse need names to be tought properly. maybe the names of the stances are inspired on things ppl saw. like the windrunners were very quick fighters - so a quick fighting style was named after them - wind stance.(but it could be named after the storms too or what ever =))
  20. sorry for the confusion i just remembered the salt grids. guess it was our example - its a while back =) there are just several options where the stormlight could be held/contained in. one is within the grid - problem here is why some grids and not others.(ice crystals would be funny) C--C | x | C--C it could be in the bounds of the atoms - but this is unlikely, because of the huge difference of diamonds to the other gems. next would be the atoms itselfe - the question would be then, why in thouse, and not in others(including compositions). wonder if the diffusion of stormlight produces heat? then they could discharge quicker in water.
  21. hmm it would be very difficult to draw calklings quickly around a cross, if its made from lines of forbiddens. it cant be a line of warding, because it wouldnt ancor a defence. we only know of lines of forbiddends to fixiate something. i guess you can realy draw crosses and other shapes, until you dicide its finished, then you cant reach over it. remember the labyrinth made of lines of forbiddens? - must have been very difficult when the lines go active when youre done drawing one.
  22. i might be wrong in translation, but the grids the atoms form, os thouse gems are called salt grids. =)
  23. maybe you need to think its done - to activate the lines. i think here on a calkling example. as i understand you draw the calkling, and then add instructions. <- im not sure this is the correct order of things. maybe you need to start the calkling, add instructions and then finish the calkling or even start with the instructions.
  24. maybe you should search for the composition of the different gem typs which store stormlight. because crystals are actualy compressed salt. -> the question would be then, why are some salt grids holding stormlight and some not. i dont remember if diamonds hold stormlight too, thouse are actualy very different to other gems. is the stormlight stored in the grids of the crystals? or in the ionic bounds? or even the atoms itselfe. if you would grind a gem to powder would it loose its ability to store stormlight? stormlight seems not to be effected by the salt grid of glass -> so is the salt grid of a crystal(gem) blocking stormlight?
  25. if there is something like a truth spren it would be fitting for Szeth to have lost his. what happens when you loose youre spren bond? this could fit Szeth. maybe you keep the powers or some.
