Come on, @Elenion. I'm trying really hard to be civil right now, but you're one of the few votes that I can be reasonably confident comes from an actual villager, and you're just following the lead of other players, and not even trustworthy other players. First, a neutral who's doing Domi knows what (well, helping the Converts, most likely), and then an all-but-confirmed Convert. I have no idea what the heck Conq is doing, but all of my money is on a smokescreen. He was probably Converted last night, and is trying to draw attention away from Alv, the real patriarch. If the village lynches Conq, they're down a member, but they replenish ranks tonight, and take away two more opposing players. If we don't have a majority on Conq, they'll probably pull a last-minute hammer vote, and then it's game over. @Sart @OrlokTsubodai Please show up. Please vote Alv. It's our only shot at winning this. @The Young Bard I don't know if you're neutral or evil or what, but you vote would be much appreciated too. I would tag Stink too, but Stink is Stink, and Stink does what Stink does, which tends to be whatever annoys the greatest number of people possible, so asking him for help is pointless.

No, we know you aren't working with them. There's big difference between not working against us and not working with our enemies. After Rae's last couple posts I'm kind of leaning her way, (if it's not her, you Converts really need to get your acts together. ) although it's very possible Eol is. My diagram is way out of whack, but it was predicting Eol/Kipper/Bard as eliminators together for a while.

I didn't make a mistake. You did. You Korathi should communicate better. I have no doubt Aman lied about a lot of things. I doubt greatly that he did so about the Korathi. With their immunity, they are the Jeskeri's greatest threat. He no doubt wanted the Converts dead just as much as the village does. (No, I don't believe you about you sharing the village win-con. I won't believe that until I see it. Which means I'll be expecting your help lynching Alv once the last Jeskeri is dead.) As for whether or not he was wrong on some of his info about the Korathi, who knows. We have no reason to trust you, though.

...Nice try, Korathi. Lopen's already admitted to me that he's one of you, so I'm willing to bet Aman's info on that point was good, and you and Alv are as well. (Also, Alv, thanks for basically admitting to being the Patriarch, by the way. Unless you're trying to protect someone else. In which case, please stop. ) Seriously though. If you're going to try to frame me as a fellow Convert, at least put some effort into it. If it was a slipup, it would have been accidental. The conclusions in that post were based around the theory that the Converts are protected by one of Sel's gods. There are only two named gods in Elantris and the Emperor's Soul, Dashu (Domi) and Jaddeth. Jaddeth can be stricken from the list. (See: Burnt.) That leaves Domi, and by extension that makes the Converts the Korathi. While it is possible Joe decided to make the Converts Kesegan or something else, I doubt it. I didn't figure an explanation of the process of elimination was necessary. Feel free to try again, Rae. Any other reasons why I must be secretly working against the village?

...Is that a funeral bell I hear tolling in the distance? I think it is. Alv will convert, the new practitioner will kill, Lopen will kill, heck, Stink will probably kill too, and barring an extremely unlikely scenario where all of those for some reason fail, the village draws it's last breaths. Whatever's left of the Jeskeri will fall next cycle, and the game will end. While it's a little cheap since no one knew about you till this cycle, it was, I suppose, masterfully done. Good game Converts. @TheMightyLopen@AlvronDon't you dare convert me. I'd rather die a villager than live as a convert.

I'm saying I like to play with a measure of integrity. Throwing the game for the village in hopes that I'll be converted instead of killed? Screw that. It's dishonest, self-serving gameplay that I would never recommend to anyone. The village only has one shot, and as long as I'm a villager I'll be going for it.

Isn't it obvious? Aman can't kill Alv. Alv is protected by Domi the same way Burnt was protected by Jaddeth. Which blows, because it basically means we (the village) get to choose who we lose to. The Korathi have (if we believe Aman) at least three votes, and the Jeskeri have two, (again, if Aman is to be believed) and a kill that can only affect villagers. We villagers have five votes. Then there are two neutral swing votes. Let's lay out the scenarios here, yes? (I'm writing things out as if Aman is telling the truth, which he probably isn't, but I'm thinking we're screwed regardless of his veracity.) 1: We let the lynch play out, and kill Aman. Sart becomes Practitioner, kills at least one villager. More like than not, another player is converted. (Unless maybe it's something that can only be done on odd cycles? Hard to say without killing one.) Now we're 3:4:1, with two swing votes; in other words, the Converts win unless the neutrals decide to be contrary. (This ignores the potential of Lopen's kill hitting a villager, which it is liable to, assuming he is a Convert.) 2: We lynch Alv. Aman kills at least one villager. No conversion occurs. Now we're 4:2:2, with two swing votes. If neutrals side with village, we win. If not, the game is still up in the air. (Less so if Aman is lying, and there is a third Jeskeri; that would put things pretty firmly in their favour, which might influence neutral swing.) ...So. Hrm. Crap. Laying things out like that makes things a heck of a lot crappier than they were before. I'm willing to bet Aman is telling the truth about Alv. I'm not so certain he's telling the truth about his teammates; who or how many of them there are. So we have two options. Take scenario one, and basically hand victory to the Converts. Or take scenario two, and pray that Aman isn't lying, o the neutrals (looking at you, Stink) decide to help the village out. Personally, I'll take semi-certain death over absolutely certain death any day of the week. Time to go, Alv. (Trust me, I'm well aware of how late in the day it is to be deciding this. )

@TheMightyLopen You already know what my feelings are on this lynch. But, for the benefit of the class, I'm not buying the idea of complete coincidence, here. As I'm reading it, either Aman is an Eliminator, there's a third party that knew multiple people would be targeting Aman that night (any suggestions, @Amanuensis?) or the Jeskeri have some means of ensuring that players target the Practitioner's victim. Even if Aman is innocent (as he could well be, in two of the above scenarios, although I would note that they are not mutually contradictory) I'm not feeling the Ren lynch. Although he hasn't been active enough for me to get a solid read on him, nothing he's done this cycle has stuck me as terribly Eliminatory. The main reason he's even up for the lynch is because Aman attacked his logic (which, while not perfect, was not unsound) in the thread. I'd rather vote for a player that I find honestly suspicious (like Rae, Burnt, Sart or Emerald) But at this point, with ~12 hours left in the cycle, and me going to be away from internet access for at least a day or so, I'm not going to place a vote for one of them with no idea what is going to happen with it, and no ability to change it should that become necessary.

@Arraenae It's how you're grouped in my diagram. You're all part of a cluster that contains both Conq and Ecthelion, and each of you are grouped with at least one of the two. (Groups are from algorithms that search for hidden connections; clusters are groups that are apparent from only visible connections.) That doesn't mean that any of you are the killer; but right now you're where my bet would be.

Try to use more than one point of reference when making an accusation, Lopen. I lurk more often than not, regardless of my alignment. I'm not someone that tries to direct discussion. I collect information, and make comments on strategy, lynches, etc, when I feel I have something to contribute. Some games, I've had lots I feel the need to comment on. This game, there's little I can say in terms of strategy. The known roles are fairly simple. The day one lynch was kinda garbage, like usual. Day one lynches are important; but generally the information gained doesn't become important until later, unless the Eliminators slip, (which they may have done). The day two lynch was ceremonial. (Although there were some background points of interest.) Which leaves us here, without much to show for ourselves. Now, I'm going to outline some points of interest. 1: Elenion. He's becoming what I call in my notes a nexus. Someone who is, effectively, leading the village. I know, that sounds contradictory. He's been up for the lynch several times, played aggressively and inconsistently, called for his own lynch on multiple occasions, and thrown votes around largely without reason. But think; how much time has been spent discussing his actions? How much has he influenced people's votes and suspicions? He's a player that, quite simply, we can't afford to keep around while expecting to get anything done. We either need to kill him (has my support, although I'd recommend it be done at night) or ignore him completely. (Beneficial, in the case that he's actually good/neutral and just screwing around for his own reasons, harmful if he happens to be an Eliminator who has chosen an annoyingly effective cover.) 2: Groups. Those of you who have played games with me before where I've had the opportunity to keep a close record of a game know that I'm in the habit of making what are called network diagrams. (Technically speaking, this isn't a game where I really have the opportunity; but the time I get off work and finish recording, I'm way to tired to actually analyse what I've found. Thankfully, today was quiet enough that I was able to do a little. ) Basically, it's an excel add-on (free and open-source, if anyone wants to try it out; just google NodeXL*) that graphs the sum of connections within a population. The software comes pre-built with a variety of algorithms that analyse connections made and intuit hidden ones; looking for players that are acting in similar ways, even if they're not being overt about it. Likewise, it's also possible to determine mathematically "background" players; people that stay out of main discussions, giving and generating little information. These aren't necessarily lurkers or inactives, although those people do tend to end up in this list; these are players that are contributing minimally to the progression of the game. With these metrics, and a bit of logic, it's very possible to figure out a number of otherwise non-intuitive things. For example, I've sent two players PMs with a good guess of their role; I'm willing to bet good money that I'm right, assuming Aman isn't lying about being Legionare'd. (Those I sent the PMs to; mwahaha. Scared you a bit, didn't I?) They can feel free to confirm the legitimacy of my guesses, if they wish. Anyways, onwards. I don't have time to go through every possible cluster, but I'll go through a couple ones that are of immediate interest. 1: Bard. I'm not sure how feelings run right now, but early in the game, people found Bard suspicious. (As reflected by his relatively central position on the Diagram.) If he is evil, and on an Eliminator team, I'd place a very high probability on Eol or Kipper also being an Eliminator as well. They've been rather consistently grouped together so far. (Although part of that has to do with the fact that Eol and Kipper are both background players, [Eol more so] and as such do not have many connections to work with. So this particular guess may change.) 2: Ecthelion/Conquestor's Killer: Ecthelion and Conq tend to be grouped separately, which broadens the suspect pool slightly. However, my top four would be Elodin, Elbereth, Arraenae, or Araris. This is more tenuous than the one with Bard though, for sure. 3: Decentralized (background/lurking) players: Burnt Ren Ant Conq Araris Silverdragon Jamie Orlok Kipper Eol Magestar Sart Alv Elodin Elbereth Aonar Silverblade Some of these players are lurking more than others, but all of them have contributed only rather minorly to the discussions at hand. (Notice how this is a majority of the players playing. This is bad. Given the activity we've seen, it's surprising how little of it has actually been productive.) Notice, Lopen, that his list is significantly longer than the one you gave. Thread presence =/= not a lurker. Alright. To wrap this ramble up (sorry! ) I'm voting Elenion. (If you're Jester, kill me. I dare you. ) I am not opposed to a tie that takes out two genuinely suspicious players. Next time I have time off (should be Sunday/Monday?) I'm going to try to put something more solid together. *There is a paid version with more features; for the most part though it's child's play to access most of the more useful paid features without actually paying, though.

They had been walking for hours. Or rather, they would have been, had time been moving with them. Eternity knew little of their intended destination, other than that it was somewhere to the south. Bringing enough air out of time to communicate was difficult, and it wasn't worth it just for an explanation. Doubly so when said explanation gave Truce an opportunity to gloat. Slowly, the trees were thinning. Truce motioned for him to stop, before taking a few steps to the edge of the treeline. From what Eternity could see, there appeared to be a river ahead, with a few indistinct shapes that could have been buildings on the far side. ...Oregon, then? Accord is getting bolder. Instantly, the world filled with sound again. Water flowed somewhere nearby; wind blew softly through the trees. "What business does Accord have in Oregon?" "Not just Oregon. Lucentia's domain. Look." At the river's edge, things were clearer. The Diamond City sprawled on the far side, glittering ethereally under an alien sky. The river itself was dominated by a massive, improbably perched castle, like something out of a storybook. Carved from perfect blue-white ice, it stood guard over only bridge. "You didn't answer my question." "You don't need to know." After a moment, Truce relented. She had never been good at holding her tongue. "For now, we're going to raise a bit of a fuss. Over the bridge and straight to the palace in real time, stopping for nothing and no one save Lucentia herself." Eternity grunted. While surprising, if Accord wanted to give offence to some of the strongest Epics in the Fractured States, that wasn't his business. Maybe one of them would finally kill the slontze. "Let's go, then." Truce looked back at him, a little puzzled. "I'm disappointed, Eternity. I was expecting more of a reaction to such a lunatic plan." "I can't die. While that protection currently extends to you, to my great annoyance, that means Accord is the only one endangered by this venture. His death would be to my benefit. I see no reason not to continue." She blinked. Only once, but any break in her composure was a victory for Eternity. "That is fair, I suppose." She took a breath and smoothed her dress, turning towards the bridge. "We'd best be going." As they approached, the massive scale of the bridge and castle became more apparent. It was rare for an elementalist Epic to be able to produce and control that much matter. The only one that immediately came to mind was Lucentia, and most considered her to be a rather singular case. The guardhouses at the bridge's base were somewhat less impressive; sturdy but ultimately mundane wooden constructions. Several armed persons could already be seen milling around outside. "The fuss you were looking for?" "Not exactly." A few yards closer, and one of the guards finally raise their weapon, obviously judging them to be within shouting distance. "Hold! There is a toll, if you wish to cross!" Glancing at Truce, Eternity raised an eyebrow. She shook her head subtly. "Hold! I will shoot if you do not respond!" Do your worst. The rifle flashed, and the world stopped. A bullet sat in the air about a foot from his chest. He could see the subtle distortion in the air behind it from the spreading shockwave. Center of mass. Professional. Reaching out, he touched it lightly. It instantly seemed to become more real, somehow, jumping back into true being as if called to life. It shot forward, thudding into Eternity's ribs. Bright spots swam in his vision as he staggered back. It felt like he'd been hit by a sledgehammer, even though he stayed unmarked as the bullet fell silently to the ground. The rifle's crack finally reached his ears. As if nothing was amiss, he and Truce continued to walk. Another cluster of bullets followed, some aimed at Truce, others at Eternity. To an outside observer, none of them connected. They were within a few yards of the bridge before the guards finally gave up and fled. Absently, Eternity rubbed his chest. The pain had faded, but the memory was still sharp. Truce glanced sideways, curious, but, for once, held her tongue. "I imagine whatever Epic created this place is on their way. Solely human guards would be too easy." They'd better be. Eternity stayed silent, simply reaching up to adjust the spear slung across his back.

To be honest, I highly doubt any Eliminators were involved in the brief bandwagon against you, if you're innocent. Of course, one can never be certain but as a rule, evil players like to let the Lord of Chaos rule in the early-game; where they can, they let the village screw things up themselves, with minimal interference. Assuming you're innocent and we do lynch you, we kind of soft-clear five-ish people. Does that help? Not really. Statistically, we're no more likely to find an Eliminator than before. Plus, what Ecthelion said. In a game where we have no clue what's going on for the most part lynching someone who advocates their own lynch is asking for trouble. However, such obvious Jester-play is usually a bad idea for said Jester, and a good one for an Eliminator. So, if you really want to die to prove your innocence, I vote we go ahead with it. As soon as night falls. Anyways, I'm here! I'm alive! I'm still kind of reeling from the sheer volume of posts you guys managed while I was at work! (If the game continues like this, this is gonna suck. I'm going to be consistently struggling to catch up with everybody else. I haven't even had a chance to start drafting RP yet.) As for my own thoughts... They're still gathering. I've spent a lot of the time I should be analyzing trying to relearn NodeXL.

Ethan looked on in vague horror as Deathwish sleazed his way into being manipulated by the new Epic. Ye gods. I almost hope she ends up stabbing him in the back, just to teach him a lesson. The conversation dragged onwards; Deathwish, if it were possible, became even sleazier, and the woman continued to manipulate him as if he were wet clay on a spinning wheel. Agitated, Frostfire spun tendrils of energy up into the air, harmlessly releasing what he had stored until what remained no longer leaked into his body. It was difficult to not sigh in relief when Emma finally took his hand and pulled him back into the air. Behind them, he could hear the false Guard worriedly questioning Emma’s remark. Frostfire figured Deathwish was probably a High; or at least very hard to kill. Judging by how the Guard radiated power, he doubted she would have difficulty surviving an impact like that herself. The mass of writhing steel in the distance started to resolve itself far too quickly for Ethan’s liking. Even as they flew, the barrage of missiles faltered and then stopped. We’re only going to have one shot at this. We’d better make it count. Inky shadow spread across Frostfire’s body, wisps of dark frost spreading into the air around him as he gathered as much energy as he could. It quickly settled into a comfortable burn deep inside his chest. Unbidden and unseen, a wide smile split his features. This is going to be good.

Well, I suppose if I want to jump back in to these, I might as well start somewhere. No guarantees on activity, (yay employment! :P) but I'll see what I can do. Signing up as Aoryn Rasair; backstory to come.

Hey. Just dropping in to mention that I'm not dead, nor have I forgotten about the RP. Eternity and Frostfire posts should go up within the next couple days. (Still not sure what to do with Mirrorveil, unfortunately. I still really like the concept for her character; I just don't know how to actually fit her into the story.)

The Official Thread of Relationships

Storms. I was kind of hoping that when I woke up this morning, no would've responded to this, and I could just hide it and pretend it didn't happen. (Late-night ideas are bad ideas.) But yeah. I imagine you're right. Waiting is the best course of action. Waiting kinda sucks, though. -
The Official Thread of Relationships
Aonar replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Okay. So I have a situation. [Warning. Before I get into this, this is a massive wall of text, the majority of which is likely irrelevant.. If you feel like reading an overly long rant about my current teenage relationship angst, (and a collection of strange footnotes) feel free to continue. If not, feel free to pretend this post doesn't exist, and go on your merry way. ] There's a girl I like. I've known her for ~three years now, although I've only been interested relatively recently. Over the last ~half a year, we've hung out a lot; two months ago I finally got up the courage to admit my feelings. Turns out they were mutual; us hanging out a lot was not a coincidence on her part.* Of course, that was horrible timing on my part. Exams were coming up; we didn't have as much time to spend together as we would've liked, and what time we had tended to be a little muted, seeing how we were both a little tired and a little stressed. (Also doesn't help that we were both a little tense with the whole relationship thing; her for reasons that are going to be important later, me because I'm generally fearful of just about everything.)** Summer started, and things didn't really get better. We both got summer jobs; (not sure how that works in other places, but here here it tends to mean working basically full-time hours or more in irregular shift work ) our amount of available time dropped down to zero, and we were both more stressed and tired than before. We've been able to see each other all of twice since summer started; once was on a holiday; once last night for about an hour. Here's where it gets to be a situation. I was dropping her off at her house; she's clearly got something on her mind; something she's been mulling over the whole night. (I was blissfully unaware at the time, of course; obvious in hindsight, though. See *.) She's suddenly really nervous, fiddles with the radio to turn it off (unsuccessfully) and proceeds to explain me a thing. This part of the story isn't really mine to tell; while there's nothing bad about it, it was something she was clearly very uncomfortable sharing (Although perhaps ironically, I had figured out large portions ahead of time.***), and even though the internet is anonymous 'n all, and you're all very nice people, it's not my right. Suffice it to say, she has some issues, and they're aggravated by stress, fatigue, and strong emotion. By this point, I could see where this was going. Summer job is stressful; compounded by fatigue from training (volleyball team does an over the summer workout regimen type thing****)... Trying to maintain a serious relationship is too hard right now. "Can we just be friends right now?" Well crap. "Of course. That's fine." Not really, but what else can I say? I care about her too much to say anything different.***** Even if her reason had only been "I don't want to go out with you anymore," that's her decision, and it's not my right to say anything else. So that leaves me in my current predicament. I'm going to give her the space she needs; that much is a given. Regardless of whether or not we're in a relationship, she's one of my closest friends, if the best way to help her is to distance myself, that's what I'll do. But how exactly does one toe the line between drifting apart and not giving enough space? I still want to be there for her, if she needs me, (and the implied potential resumption of relationship makes me hopeful, although I'm trying not to put too much stock in it) but if I'm causing her stress, intentional or not, well, I obviously don't want to be doing that.****** So... yeah. I don't have any clue what I'm doing, and am generally just trying to freak out as calmly as possible right now. Does anyone think they can help? See footnotes: ******* -
Hmm. You know, I'm pretty suspicious of Maill.... pretty sure he's Corrupted. Edit: Hrm. Color tags not working for some reason.... Hopefully Gamma will take bold.

Aiden is actually significantly more common of a spelling for the name than Aidan. (They're both correct, although Aidan is slightly closer to the original Gaelic Aodhan.) Much to my mild annoyance, because it means my name is constantly spelled wrong on various documents.

Crap. Alright. I was hoping to not have to do this, but as I'm currently leading the lynch and I can't guarantee my activity for the rest of the cycle, I guess I'm going to have to. I do have a role, and one I can confirm. I am (or rather, Hael was; I haven't had a chance to actually use the role yet ) a Viewer. I case I get lynched, I'm going to dump Hael's scans and results here. There's not a lot useful, so make what you will of them. N1: Meta - Failed; presumably due to Dreamwalking. N2: Wilson - Village Warder. (Rendered slightly useless by her death.) N3: Maill - Failed; not sure why. Hael suspected that he'd been Mask of Mirrored by one of the Channelers, if he wasn't lying about his claimed role. N4: Attempted to re-scan Maill - As you know, it was redirected to Rubiks, and Hael recieved Village Aielblooded as the result. If you guys think it's best, feel free to lynch me. If not, I'll scan whoever you guys think would be best. (I don't have a solid enough basis for suspicion to have a good idea who to scan. If you leave the choice up to me, I'll probably scan Maill or Aman.) If you still think I'm Fain, you should probably give me a target, or better yet, redirect me to one of your choice (just to rule out confusion from Darkfriend kills, as well) to ensure there's no doubt about the scans.
-
@TheMightyLopen Yes please do, thanks. I could really use a good summary of what's public knowledge. I should've spent a bit more time reading over things before Hael had to leave. (Question, if you're not accounted for, why is no one suspicious of you? )
-
Hello everybody! I'm Hael now, apparently. ...And, there's a lot to respond to and I'm not 100% sure all what's going on. But that's fine. This should be fun. Alright. Before we begin, thank you, Aman, for providing such a useful table. I'll be getting back to that later. So; do I have anything meaningful to contribute? Maybe, maybe not. In all honesty, my decision to pinch-hit may have been a poor one; I've really only given the thread a brief skim, and as such, I am still in the process of forming suspicions. However, I can always analyse. And, if you were wondering about Hael being overly neutral in his opinions (like usual) you can be assured that I will play much more aggressively. Now, on to the table: To begin, citing information no one else has access to as proof always ticks me off just a tad. Sure, innocent players know they are innocent. Without proof that others can see, however, it's all just words. And words are more than a touch mutable. I won't call you a liar, because I can't be sure, but I sure won't trust you either. However, the rest of your table brings up a very valid point; a lot of assumptions of innocence are being made in this game. (Also; could someone explain to me how Meta's detainment means he isn't a Darkfriend? Without assuming there to be only four Darkfriends? Additionally, your Fain column is inconsistent. I seem to remember someone clarifying that Fain could not have sub-roles, so Joe/Rubiks cannot be Fain. [Unless I'm miss-remembering, which is very possible.] They could be corrupted, but if you're including corruptions, I'm fairly certain there are no players we can completely confirm to be uncorrupted.) There have been a lot of claims made without sufficient proof, and a lot of players that have been counted innocent without perfect reasoning, which I don't really like. I'm not sure what to do about it, but that's because I haven't been in this long enough to sort the good claims from the bad. (You can trust me when I say I'm going to be making a lot of PMs tonight. ) Anyways, back to your first post: Of course you think it's a solid plan. It's a plan that works equally well regardless of which player it's applied to, but arbitrarily keeps you alive. I really have no comment beyond that. It is a good plan (albeit the slight hitch in the scenario that Aman is a Darkfriend Aiel). I would ask you to consider who you are lynching and why, though. (Notably, the Aiel claim. It's a very good role to lie about, and we've had an unusually high number of them. Makes you an undesirable target for lynches or kills, regardless or whether or not it's true, as the only way to be sure is to kill/lynch them.) On a completely different note: Maill, do you know something we don't? Is there a particular reason why Meta is a good lynch this cycle? (As an aside, could people not call me Haelaonar? It's weird. )
