  1. Nilan Izenry was watching, as was his want. He'd always felt most comfortable as an observer. He'd watched the whole time, as Silverlight had torn itself apart in the search for Hoid. Nilan barely had to do anything. He hadn't been completely passive, of course; he'd offered input where necessary, and used his powers as he saw fit, however little of that was obvious to his fellows. It was the main point upon which he disagreed with his father's policies, really. He had been for too.... active, in the everyday affairs of their profession. Nilan had no intention of becoming a martyr. The only other point was Ruin. His father had seen it as Ati had: a force of destruction, of ending, of uncreation. That could be Ruin. But Ruin was more than that. Fundamentally, Ruin was change. All change required loss, destruction of some sort, but Ruin was not destruction for destruction's sake. Where one thing ended, another began. Changed, but not eradicated. See, Ruin's true opposite, true enemy, was Stasis. People oft thought of it as Preservation, but Stasis was a better name. Ruin cannot abide the unchanging, and there is no truer Stasis than emptiness, than absolute destruction. So destruction was not Nilan's purpose today, as he finally made an appearance in Silverlight. It was time for change. The air in shadesmar practically boiled with power. Almost three quarters of the Shards in one spot.... There was enough Investiture here to reshape the Cosmere, properly applied. It was only a matter of time, now. He nodded discreetly to his fellows as he walked Silverlight's winding halls, slowly making his way to their impromptu court. The great stone chamber had been a dining hall at one point, going by his father's memories, but it had become a place of execution in the wake of the first Shardic conflicts. Serol lounged upon the stand at the far end, somehow managing to make the hard stone seat look comfortable. The other worldhoppers stood uneasily in a rough semicircle around him, waiting, hoping, that the pale white glow of Preservation's Investiture would fade. Nilan couldn't help but break into a grin, seeing the dismayed scowls on the faces of Autonomy’s followers. Alright. This has gone on long enough. Let's get the party started. Twin clouds of black smoke gathered around his hands, sparking and crackling as they conflicted with the other powers in the room. Ruin's power surged at his fingertips, straining to be released, to alter, to destroy. Nilan kept an even pace, walking slowly to the group as silence fell. Without thinking, he waved a hand, dismissing the worldhoppers that were just now beginning to turn. Explosions rippled through the hall, stone shattering as they were thrown from their feet. The shockwave parted around Nilan, barely ruffling his mistcoat. When the dust settled, only two of the original nine were still standing, flickers of Investiture outlining their frames. He inclined his head to the man outlined in faint blue. “If you will not help, Arin, it may be best for you to take a step back. You wouldn't want to be caught in the crossfire.” Survival disappeared in a flash of light, rematerializing leaning against the far wall. The woman in red sneered at the retreating Shard, voice dripping with contempt. “Coward.” This time when Nilan spoke, his voice was deeper, more resonant. Not loud, but still somehow carrying throughout Silverlight. The voice of a god, come to dispense justice. “Stic. My Lady Odium. We need not have been enemies, but you appear to have left us no choice. As per the traditions of Roshar, your homeworld, I challenge you to single combat, under the Codes. “What say you? I must admit, I have wondered before which would win in a battle of wills and magics. Perfect Hate, or perfect Destruction. One way or another, this will end today. This began as a conflict of gods; it seems fitting that it should end as one, does it not?” Below the break was written by Elenion (I'm posting it because he couldn't be online before the turnover); go give him some upvotes. Meanwhile.... Lorna’s mansion burned as the sun set behind it. It bathed the surrounding landscape in a fiendish light, a patchwork of oranges and blacks, garish lights and lurking shadows. The corpses of several Lifeless were slumped outside, cut down with a blade that had sliced through them as if they were made of nothing. They had fallen without a move, heads severed by a hand that they had once protected. Inside, in the great hall, yet unburned by the fire, stood an ornate casket that stood open, revealing Lorna’s body. His followers, before abandoning the mansion, had taken great care to ensure that Lorna received a proper ceremony. The figure that now paced back and forth in front of the casket had been among them when they had done it. Next to Lorna’s casket lay a smaller one: Silence’s, the Lifeless Commander. The pacing figure wore a dark-green cloak, unadorned. Power radiated from the figure like heat from a cooking fire, although nobody was alive to feel its warmth. The whole mansion was vacant. Dead. Just like Lorna and Silence. And the figure that now stood near the two was to blame. “Do you know, Lorna, why I did it? Why I broke my oath to protect you? Lorna’s body gave no reply, but the cloaked figure evidently discerned something, for it went on talking to it. “Your plan for the Cosmere… it was so wasteful. We had all of the potential of the worlds at our disposal, but yet you failed to see it. You only wanted to keep the worlds apart; make them Autonomous.” The west wall of the great hall groaned ominously. The fires on its other side had weakened it, and soon it would give way, leaving the hall to be consumed with the rest of the mansion. But for now, it held. “You could have helped us,” the figure spoke louder, angrier, speaking to everything and nothing at the same time, “All that we desired was a new Adonalsic empire!” The wall groaned again, and shifted, dislodging chunks of rock from the masonry that rolled on the marble floor like so many rough marbles. Smoke seeped in through cracks. “But now, despite your interference, our dream has been realized.” The wall groaned one last time and fell inwards. Crumbling stone shattered the marble tiles on the floor of the great hall, and the sun bathed the smoky room in blood-red. The figure near the caskets threw back his hood. The emissary of Mandos stood stationary, heedless of the crumbling stone that skittered across the floor all around him. His hand extended and a Shardblade materialized. No, not a Shardblade, a Shardscythe. The weapon of Cultivation. “The time of the harvest has come, old friend. It is time for the Worldhoppers to reap what they have sown.” And, on that note, Stic. Assassin. Numbers aren't quite right for the game to end now, but they will be after tonight.
  2. Assuming Len was telling the truth, I'm two to one for predictions this game. Solid. (Because Alv is obviously Auto.) So... Bard[/color] I guess? School just restarted, so I now have maybe a quarter the time to devote to this I had before, sorry. Edit: Storming colour tags. >>
  3. You immediately assumed Bard had a Shard, even though our latest incarnation of Odium has attacked players (well, a player) they aren't sure are Shards, and that he must have been protected by Honour, because said Shard did not Shatter. This leads me to believe that you made this conclusion (which is by no means the only valid interpretation of the night's events) because you know it's true, in which case you attempted to Invest Bard and failed. Assuming you are Odium, I'm not going to start a witch hunt on you like you did with Lopen, but I'd rather you were transparent about it.
  4. Hello Odium. >> Nice to meet you. I did wonder if Lopen might have been a little vindictive in how he passed Odium, but even though I assumed you were a Shard, I thought Cultivation fit better... Give me a bit to get my thoughts in order and I'll post something more substantial.
  5. You have just encountered the 17th Shard's very persistent word filter. Frequently when one sees words like "Damnation," "Chull," "Crem" or "Storms," they are not, in fact, the words they appear to be. The write-up made it sound like Sart was a Feruchemist, which seems to have proven true given that he died now.
  6. Funny you should ask, Len. I'm about 90% sure you're Cultivation. I've had you pegged as a possible Shard for a while, but assuming the conclusions I've come to so far are correct, you didn't start with one. Which means you must be Cultivation, *Spoilers* (assuming it exists) or Odium. However, you've exhibited vote-changing powers, expressed extreme suspicion of Mage for asking for Cultivation's action to target him, and been consistently fearful of/aggressive towards Odium, making Cultivation a likely suspect. Thoughts?
  7. Hmm, I missed that. So we'd have to coordinate it so you were attacked once to remove the extra life, and then get an Honour's Champion/Surgebinder to protect you while you're attacked again in order for you and Odium to both achieve your wincons... That sounds rather difficult to arrange.
  8. ^To be fair, Survival/Arinian has no reason not to claim; if Odium attacks him he's basically guaranteed to get his win, unless he's converted by the Shard and then killed by the village afterwards. Odium's attack will just Shatter his Shard, not kill him, and that's the part that matters. (Odium's kill bypasses the innate extra life all Shards have, but not the extra one on top of that that Survival has, I believe.)
  9. I take offence to this. Just because I'm viewing the thread doesn't mean I'm going to post; sometimes I'm busy with other things, (Like the fact that my English teacher is an utter incompetent, so upon realizing that they hadn't taught over a third of the course material, assigned it all over winter break. >>) sometimes there just isn't a point. I am trying to stay caught up and be helpful, however. It's not like I'm going to be getting game-changing roles, or conclusions or evidence all the time. (Although, ironically...) I think I know who Cultivation is, and odds are, if I've figured it out, so has the 17th Shard. I'm not going to reveal quite yet, but they might be worth lynching, as if the 17th had a conversion left last night, I'll be willing to bet that they were the one converted...
  10. ...? I've been contributing to the discussion where there is relevant discussion to be had. I've shared my thoughts on several occasions, and posted (I think?) every day so far? I won't claim my thoughts have been good thoughts, but... I tend to observe more than say, unless there is good reason to do otherwise. I haven't had a good reason, yet. Really, little has changed since the last time I posted. I still feel suspicious of Len, and I'm going to take everything Alv says with a fair sized shaker of salt, but otherwise... So far, this game has been dominated by the discussions of a fairly small group of vocal players, most of whom are now dead. There simply isn't enough information on anyone else to really say anything. I'll try to share what little I have though. Although there were valid reasons to suspect Mage, he never read as an eliminator to me, (hence why I didn't participate either way in that lynch) and looking back, there seems to be a fairly obvious possibility to explain them that never came up. Assuming my suspicions are verified, I'll be doubly suspicious of Len, with a bit on Elodin and Stick as well. (More so on Elodin, as it looks like he had the same suspicion I do, but voted on Mage anyways. While there may have been good reasons for that things seem a little too convenient.) I'm mildly suspicious of Arin as well, with how fluid his opinions have been. Could be honest confusion, could be a 17th trying to conform to public opinion, could be a neutral (Survival? Odium?) messing around. Anyways, Araris, it's three votes. (And I didn't defend you. I'd noticed the night before that Len's logic was faulty, when it seemed to be gaining traction with other players I figured I should point it out. You're welcome anyways, though. ) So Assassin, I'm not inactive. We shouldn't be lynching true inactives, anyways. And bandwagon, much? One poke vote I can understand, I guess two makes sense I guess if people really think I've been lurking, (I don't think I am, but then again I'm rarely a vocal player without provocation) but was adding a third really necessary? I might place a vote of my own tomorrow, we'll see. My main suspicions ride on the outcome of Mage's lynch though, which we won't have until the day's end. Edit: Italics being weird.
  11. If I were playing this, I'd be adding Madman and playing it with shades of Tinker although that would be more secondary. (The Madman: Must interact with something that exists only in their own head at least once per RP post. May exhibit other delusions, paranoid/obsessive behaviours etc, at the writer’s preference.) I'm not playing this game however, no matter how much I want to write this character. >> I'll take a link to the spec doc, if there is one.
  12. You're putting words in Kas's mouth there, mate. He was distinctly ambiguous as to whether or not Araris had a role. Doesn't mean he's not 17th, but unless Kas shows up and definitely says whether or not Araris gave him a role, your reasoning's faulty. (Ditto for you Len.) Okay. So as for my own thoughts... I'm not sure. Things have been so dead today it's hard for me to get a solid feeling on anyone in the wake of last cycle's events. Some things (like the fact that Alvron is either Autonomy/Autonomy's current Agent) are glaringly obvious, but none of them are terribly useful. I'm suspicious of Len, but it feels like I'm always suspicious of Len, evil or not. I'm fairly certain Kas is either good, or was good up until last night, but that doesn't really get us anywhere. And as for everyone else... complete neutral. I was hoping to have stronger feelings by the end of the day, but it's half over and nothing has happened...
  13. ...Dude. Like I said, that's not the point. Of course Hoid can't win while Auto has more converts than him. It's all factions combined though. Hoid also can't win while there's more villagers than 17th. He can't win while there's less villagers and less Autonomous (Thoughts? I like the term, and as of yet, I haven't seen an agreed upon one bandied about. ) than 17th, but more overall. Auto's converts don't matter. The total amount of persons in one faction versus another is not changing, as the village, Autonomy, and Odium are all lumped together for the purposes of the 17th's wincon. The only possible thing I can see you alluding to is that Auto can convert 17ths, and this might prevent them from winning. That could be true, although it feels wonky game balance-wise. @Seonid Do players having the 17th/Auto dual wincon count as part of Hoid's faction, or Autonomy's, in terms of the 17th's wincon?
  14. How so? Autonomy isn't spontaneously putting new players in the game, is he? The 17th appear to work like a standard Elim faction; they need to outnumber the Village. In this case, the village happens to be broken into three distinct subfactions, but nothing really has changed. Shattering Auto has little/no impetus on how quickly Hoid can win, as I understand it. That seems like an unusual mistake for you to make, Vron.
  15. Right, that's fair then. He specifically said scan, though, and Awakener could be subverted with the Mastrell screen, or by something as simple as passing the Shard between the Vessel and the Champion. And echoing what Kas said, didn't you claim to be roleblocked that night?
  16. Presumably. Neither kill has priority, so if both are attacked without protection, both die. @Seonid Should probably confirm though. I'm calling it at about 75% that Harambe isn't Ruin. If he is a Shard, 50-50 on him being Dominion (in this scenario he's lying about being an Elantrian) or Honour (slip up with "Glorified Mistborn"?). See here, (claims Elantrian and Shard) and here (either completely misunderstands how Ruin works or indirectly claims Honour via the "glorified Mistborn" comment). Even if he is though, I'm agreeing with Alvron that he shouldn't be protected. Better for him to be Shattered than end up with the 17th.
  17. To be fair, Zephrer has been on and posted since the game's beginning; he's not a complete inactive. While he hasn't been on yet today, he would not yet be considered a true inactive. I'm not sure he's worth lynching, but I'm not terribly suspicious of Mage for the idea. However, I'm content to see how the lynch goes. (I do agree with Mage about Harambe, but as he's a new player though I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.) Edit: @Magestar The Codex Alera MR was the one where everyone was given a special role (the Cursori) which let them make one kill before the game started. Everyone died, and then the game actually started.
  18. No, actually. In the rules it states that an Inactive Vessel has their Shard given away randomly. For balance reasons, I feel this is the case regardless of whether the inactivity was warned of beforehand. (Like in Elenion's case.) They're better off Converting an active Vessel, even though by now most of them probably have passed, or are soon planning to pass, their Shards away, as they will have information as to the current location of the Shard, and are more likely to be able to get a Shard in the future, due to cognitive bias on the part of whomever they passed to, and those who know they passed a Shard away.
  19. ...Um, but why would they? I may be misunderstanding what you're saying, but a general rule of thumb is that you don't want inactives on your team. They don't gain you anything. A lurker (player that is around, but rarely contributing obviously) is a not bad choice for conversion; an inactive (player that is not around, period) is pretty useless. The only reason an inactive might be converted is if they intend to kill them to make themselves seem more trustworthy. However, assuming conversions are hard-capped to a certain number (which they may not be, that wasn't clear in the rules) this still isn't an ideal strategy; the relatively small amount of trust gained just isn't worth the loss of a possible active, contributing member.
