Granted. The toes strongly push anything metal (including the shoelace eyelets, damaging the shoe) away and emit annoying blue lasers at every source of metal within a reasonable distance. You cannot turn it off and decide to go barefoot whenever possible and never wear any metal including a cell phone or computer when near the Steelpushing Toe shoes. (This happens to shoes whenever you put them on and doesn't stop when you take them off).

Of course there is the whole problem of Ryalla's whole arc being learning that even though she's a slave she doesn't have to obey her master Courteth even though the whole caste system is set up so that she does have to. The whole Ryalla/Courteth thing is the most glaringly obvious (to me) reason this is not up to par with Brando's later works.
