  1. You're right. I was forgetting to add in the boy's age. Still, I think it's not enough time for Lirin to go through his training and get married before Kaladin was born. I mean, unless Lirin is this guy.
  2. I know this is the spoiler board, but aren't we supposed to put spoiler tags around stuff not in the released preview chapters? (Unless I'm thinking of /r/Stormlight_Archive, or this was mentioned in one of the previous books' interludes)
  3. Probably require him to give up his shards and banishment (or imprisonment). Let's assume that brave, brave Adolin obeys Elhokar's edict. Funny how Brave and Obedient are the Divine Attributes associated with at least one KR order which would be okay with Adolin murdering Sadeas. Personally, I see this as Adolin's path-of-least-resistance to Radiancy.
  4. I plotted out the Oathgate locations to see if there might be some pattern: I was hoping it would match up with points on the Radiant chart (or something similarly simple), but I can't see anything. Hopefully someone else notices what I can't. I used the following labels: X = Oathgate, exact location known ? = Oathgate, exact location unknown U = Urithiru, approximate location and here are locations listed out as the high storm blows (right-to-left): [X] Shattered Plains [X] Kholinar, Alethkar [?] Thaylen City, Thaylenah (exact location of city on island unknown) [X] Vedanar, Jah Keved [?] Kurth, Rira (Jasnah believed it be in Kurth, but may be elsewhere) [X] Azimir, Azir [X] Panatham, Babtharnam [X] Rall Elorim, Iri [?] Shinovar (hidden somewhere) [?] Aimia (exact location on island unknown)
  5. A couple problems with that: Timeline. The battle happened 33 years ago. Kaladin is 19-years-old. That means Lirin would've been 14 when Kaladin was born? I don't think that's too likely. Eyes. The boy's father was a brightlord. Presumably, the boy is a lighteyes. Lirin is not a lighteyes.
  6. Didn't he also say that it's not set in stone? I mean, I remember him saying at one point that Navani was going to have a book.
  7. Definitely agree with this sentiment. We need some examples of heroes without powers.
  8. I feel similarly. I suspect that Renarin has had a hard time growing up, and he really wants a buddy. Have to say I'm really looking forward to Renarin's book (why must it be so far away!).
  9. I'd argue that Gavilar saw the Everstorm as a means to release that "ancient, crucial spren," and give enslaved parshmen the ability to undergo transformation. I'd stop short of saying that it only changes them into Voidbringers for a couple reasons, chief among them being that it creates a more complex and nuanced narrative. Brandon doesn't write simple "good vs. evil" plots where we readers know that a character or group will always act a certain way. I predict that there will be divisions among the newly transformed parshmen and politicking by the good guys (e.g. Dalinar and crew) and the bad guys (e.g. Voidbringers) to convince the fence-sitters (e.g. normal listener forms) to join one side or another. I also don't believe this will end with listener genocide, so I believe a large group of them will have to survive. I mean, we've seen much less sympathetic forms of life live on after a convenient point to exterminate them (I'm thinking of Koloss and the near destruction of Scadrial here).
  10. There's WoB that Renarin is on the spectrum, but only barely:
  11. Agreed. My best guess is that the mother or child is still alive and is behind the death of Dalinar's wife. In response, he butchers the entire city.
  12. I'm going to discount the possibility of a Jasnah chapter unless we're through Part One already and she's just an interlude character this book.
  13. Or, some years later, Dalinar's wife.
  14. My thoughts: Parshmen/Voidbringers Upon reflection, it seems obvious that they're not all in forms of power. Eshonai's POV chapters made it clear that there was an element of chance when bonding during a highstorm (unless you'd captured the spren ahead of time). As such, some parshmen gained ordinary Listener forms while some gained Voidbringer forms. What did the Everstorm actually do? Gavilar talked about capturing a special spren. I've seen speculation that he was referring to an Unmade. Perhaps that Unmade allowed Listeners to gain Voidbringer forms, and capturing it put all Voidbringers into an arrested state (e.g. slaveform). In my mind, this would mean the Everstorm released the captured Unmade and allowed parshmen to gain forms again. The OB summary blurb indicates Kaladin will have some sort of ethical dilemma regarding the Listeners. To me, this means that some (likely most) of the newly empowered parshmen will be acting on their own and not under the guidance of Odium. It doesn't seem like Kaladin has any qualms about killing Voidbringers, so I have to assume he'll be in contact with Listeners who aren't Voidbringers. Anyone else think there might be some voidbinder equivalent to the Nahel bond? It would explain why a thousand stormforms couldn't withstand Dalinar's army. None of them would have progressed far enough in their bonds. Also lends credence to the idea that not all parshmen became Voidbringers. Only the ones who were odious enough got Voidbringer forms. Elhokar Future Lightweaver. He's looking for patterns in why some people are better than others at certain things. Here, specifically, he's looking for a pattern in Kaladin's heroism and leadership. Renarin Probably won't see Glys (aside from Shardblade form) until we get a Renarin (or Rock) POV chapter. I assume Glys is invisible to other just like Syl. Dalinar If he didn't kill that kid, I'd be willing to wager the kid was involved with his wife's death. Taravangian Looking forward to his appearance. We don't near enough about this guy, so more screen time for him is definitely something for which I'm excited. Anybody else think "his" Radiant is actually one of Nale's Skybreakers? Nale was keeping track of Szeth well enough that I assume he knows about Mr. T's machinations. I for one will be on the lookout for a man with dark brown skin and a crescent-shaped scar in the king's entourage. Adolin The scenes were touching, but does anyone actually believe he's going to get away with murder? He murdered Sadeas. Yeah, everyone hates Sadeas; we're supposed to hate him. I think we're also supposed to dislike what Adolin did, and I can't really think of a time where one of Brandon's characters commits murder and gets away with it cleanly.
  15. The Shin seem to have knowledge that others do not, so I'll assume they know enough to do the following: Use a larkin to remove Stormlight from whoever has Jezrien's Blade. Defend themselves with aluminum (soulcast, of course) to negate the Honorblade's ability to cut through material. If the Shin know the above two points, retrieving the Honorblade wouldn't be too difficult.
  16. I don't think we understand the visions fully. Dalinar has been able to interact with the visions in some ways, changing their narrative a slight bit. Also, the Stormfather, who is providing the visions, didn't see the Champion (well, didn't see "the light," but I interpret that as not seeing the Champion either). I think it's definitely possible that Odium is able to affect the visions in some manner (similar to how Ruin affected the Terris religion). I know that's a stretch, but I believe Dalinar feeling a familiarity just because of the Thrill is even more of a stretch. At this point, he's pretty much immune to the Thrill, right? I remember seeing a WoB to that effect anyway. There are thousands (millions?) of people who experience the Thrill. That just seems too general. I expect that when the Champion is revealed, the general reaction will be along the lines of "Dalinar's familiarity makes so much sense now," and both Dalinar and the Champion having experienced the Thrill doesn't seem like a strong enough connection.
  17. I feel like that's a bit of a stretch. If that were the case, he would feel the familiarity for countless numbers of characters. It seems to me that this is a bit more specific.
  18. My best bet is with Elhokar. Emphasis mine. This is the basis for my flimsy belief that Dalinar gave the Honorblade to Elhokar.
  19. Another interesting question about Urithuru (tangentially related to its dimensions) is its location. It's on a mountain on a planet without plate tectonics and where the continent drifts. From my limited understanding of planetary forces, there shouldn't be a mountain this tall without plate tectonics, right? Additionally, do the mountains remain in the same place relative to the continent, or do they slowly move over millenia?
  20. Agreed. Especially when there was so much foreshadowing about Adolin's dislike/hatred of Sadeas. I mean, in the first Adolin PoV, he's brooding about Sadeas.
  21. The biggest issue I have with Moash being the Champion is Dalinar's familiarity. While it's possible Dalinar has seen Moash while he was one of Bridge Four, I don't think it would be enough for Dalinar to recognize Moash from the eyes alone. I feel like it either has to be someone Dalinar is very familiar with or Dalinar himself.
  22. It's like Cosmere Clue: Baon in the hallway with the shotgun! No, it was Galladon in the library with an Aon! No, it was Demoux in the kitchen with a sword!
  23. The biggest issue is that Sadeas was a Highprince, so there will be some repercussion to the murderer but probably not much. Sadeas was out of favorites with the king, so Elhokar probably won't require the murderer to give up the Blade. If the murderer were able to bond it first, taking it away would be even more difficult. A Shardbearer can't be jailed because they can just cut their way out. Retaliation from Sadeas's camp would be the biggest concern, but nobody else in the camp has a Shardblade so there's a reasonable chance they wouldn't be able to take it away. If some minor noble or common soldier had murdered Sadeas, I have a hard time believing they'd toss away Oathbringer.
  24. Interesting. I don't think I've ever heard that. Is there WoB on that?
