  1. But Adolin is currently involved in a very important investigation. Also, he's no longer the Kholin heir. He's the Kholin highprince. My guess is a different Kholin who is currently twiddling his thumbs but has expressed interest in heading to Kholinar: Elhokar.
  2. I'm pretty sure @axcellence was referring to the Lightweaving map from a couple OB chapters back. Like I said, there's plenty of holes in the theory, but I'm not entirely sure that's one. I don't believe it was specifically stated that surgebinding and voidbinding can't work together. We've seen other instances of magics being used together (e.g. Compounders), so I'd say it's unlikely but not impossible on Roshar.
  3. There's also the issue of perception right? Lift perceives her food => Stormlight as awesome. Dalinar perceives the loss of his memories as a hole. When the Stormlight healing is filtered through the Cognitive Realm, it's going to heal one and not the other.
  4. Crazy, off-the-wall theory here. Based on existing WoBs, I don't actually believe it, but it would be cool: What if the Stormfather was actually one of the Unmade? There have been several mentions that Dalinar's visions may not come from the Almighty. Recently, Kadash mentioned that Voidbringer princes (e.g. Unmade) could mislead men with lies. I think it would turn out to be quite a bit of foreshadowing if the Stormfather was one of Odium's nine shadows, bent on leading Dalinar astray. It would definitely explain why Dalinar thought Odium's champion was so familiar. Having bonded one of the Unmade, he's probably already on his way to becoming that champion. And no wonder he said it wouldn't be his place to fight the champion! I mean, unless he's going to be slapping himself whilst yelling, "Why are you hitting yourself, Blackthorn? Why are you hitting yourself?" Now, before anybody starts shooting holes in this theory, I know they exist, and I know they're quite large. If the Stormfather is an Unmade, does that make Syl a voidspren? How would one of Honor's oaths bind an Unmade? Why are there so many WoBs that are clear about the Stormfather being a Cognitive Shadow of Honor? I don't actually believe this theory is true, but I might want it to be.
  5. I hope it will in the long run. To extend the soul-car analogy, repairing that door is going to cost more money than Dalinar probably wants to spend right now, but in the long run, he'll be better off with a working door than the duct tape and cardboard he was using.
  6. a permanent state of terror.
  7. Lift had something altered in her Spiritual DNA whereas Dalinar has something cut out of his Spiritual DNA (e.g. Connection to Evi). In my mind, I think of it like this: If Cosmere souls were cars, Lift's soul-car was converted to use biodiesel, and Dalinar's soul-car had a door ripped off. In Lift's case, the alteration didn't really create any damage to heal. In Dalinar's case, there's definitely damage to heal.
  8. I have three main issues with this theory (besides not liking it, of course): It relies on the notion that Evi's title somehow changed when Dalinar married Navani. I saw elsewhere on this board someone refer to Evi as Dalinar's "ex-wife" now that he's married to Navani, and that's the reason for remembering Evi (and presumably forgetting Navani). The problem here is (as far as we know) Dalinar never divorced Evi. She's never been his "ex-wife." She's been his deceased wife, but that hasn't changed now that he's married Navani. If his boon or curse was to forget his "wife" and that included his deceased wife before marrying Navani, it shouldn't have changed now that he's married to someone else. Evi is still his deceased wife. So, forgetting Dalinar's "wife" either included a deceased wife (and Dalinar shouldn't be remembering Evi) or didn't include a deceased wife (and Dalinar should've always remembered Evi). It relies on a technicality (e.g. Dalinar wished to not remember his "wife" rather than "Evi"). In TWoK, Av, during Baxil's interlude, states that this is not how the Old Magic works. He says the boons and curses are straightforward and not dependent on the language of the wish. Furthermore, Renarin states that once you have your boon/curse, the Nightwatcher is supposed to leave you alone. This "switch" would require either additional meddling by the Nightwatcher or a persistent type of spell which seems outside the scope of Cosmere magics. It's unnecessary. There are so many things going on in the story right now and so many other secrets that need to be revealed. Throwing in a new magical mechanic just seems too busy. Personally, I think it's likely to be more mundane Cosmere Spiritual Realm magics, like Connection being toggled on/off with Investiture.
  9. Well, an intelligent horde of cremlings did kill two proto-Skybreakers in self-defense.
  10. I mentioned this a couple pages back. 10:1 it won't be there when Dalinar wants to use it. They also have Honorblades with Illumination, so... You could have disguised Shin teleporting around Urithiru. I'm not so sure. If the request came back in WoR, it would be a request from a highprince to his son. Now, it would be a request from a foreign monarch to an Alethi highprince. I think that changes the calculus significantly. Also, Elhokar stipulated that Dalinar isn't to give orders to Alethi highprinces. The orders go to Elhokar for delegation, and I can see Elhokar saying, "WTFudge? No. Alethkar will not be giving a set of Plate to Iri. It's ours. Come up with a better order, Uncle." In Dalinar's case, I think they have to be separate. At least one was about forgetting something. If his boon and curse were both to forget Evi, wouldn't he have a hard time remembering them as being distinct? Yet, in TWoK, he mentions a couple times that he knows what his boon and his curse were. I have a sneaky suspicion that we only know one of his "gifts" from the Nightwatcher.
  11. I believe there's a few copies of Dragonsteel Prime on hand at BYU's library... so take a vacation to Provo, UT when one isn't checked out or on hold? I haven't followed the library's site very much, but I'd guess that's a rare occurrence.
  12. I think Harmony is too new to the game. Per WoB, it's difficult for a Shard to leave a planet once they've Invested in it. Not that it can't be done, just that it's difficult. Since Harmony is Invested in Scadrial during MB Era 2 which is happening roughly concurrent to SA, I think it's safe to say we won't see Harmony during SA. Although, I guess it's possible that the death of a Shard's Vessel is momentous enough that other Shards will feel it (e.g. along the lines of "I felt a great disturbance in the The Force."), and Odium doesn't want Harmony to know what he's doing. Still, if that's the case, I think it'll come to light in a different series.
  13. Do the Shin Stone Shamans know he has it? I bet they do. I'll bet when he needs it, it will be gone, taken by a Shin carrying Battar's Honorblade (so s/he can teleport to Urithuru and be disguised as a non-Shin). AKA Odium's Champion AKA Vivenna. I'm watching you "Rial." I don't think this will happen. Dalinar is (or will be) highking of Urithiru. Adolin is the highprince of Kholinar, subject to the king of Alethkar. Asking a foreign highprince give up his Shardplate seems like a bad political move. I don't see it happening. Whoa, okay. "Forces that could hurt him." I assume this means other Shards? Cultivation? "as he has been hurt before." Have we had previous confirmation that Odium was injured in previous battles?
  14. I agree in part but disagree on the whole. I believe the Nightwatcher ripped out Dalinar's Connection to his wife, thereby removing his memories of her. It makes sense to me that the more significant the Connection, the more healing required to refound it. If we assume that Dalinar's Connection to his wife was one of his most significant Connections, we can also assume that it would take quite a lot of Stormlight to heal it. I think as the story progresses, we'll see Dalinar be a little more wary of using Stormlight as it will allow him to dredge up more and more memories that he'd like to keep repressed.
  15. Navani mentioned later that the real reason she left was because she couldn't stand the way everyone treated her. They expected her to be solemn and sad and to stay out of their politics.
  16. Where did we learn this? He's called the Stormfather a "spren of oaths," and he's a Bondsmith: however, I don't recall a portion where it was mentioned that he now has to keep every single oath he's ever made. He is so much more interesting when he makes his point with a kick to the breastplate, right?
  17. I mean, eventually they did, yes. But there's like all of Alloy and Shadows where he keeps lying to himself about his feelings for Steris. It took a good two and a half books for them to really click. I'm still in the camp that there's probably time for Shadolin to work things out. I mean, there's only 15 chapters available out of, what, 122? And this is only book 3 of 10? There's so much time. Exciting breakthroughs and awesome action sequences can't happen every chapter. When everyone is super, nobody is, right? Well, without build up, any possible Shadolin payoff runs the risk of feeling cheap.
  18. I mean, they're not going to work on it right away. We've only seen 15 chapters. It's taken Kaladin around 180 chapters to work out some of his issues. There's still plenty of time for Adolin and Shallan to resolve their deep problems and be honest with each other. Also, they're not the same people as Wax and Steris. They're not going to deal with their issues in the same way. Wax and Steris are very blunt characters, so being honest works for them. Adolin and Shallan are decidedly less blunt.
  19. Maybe this is part of the message Brandon is trying to get across. Too often we read novels where a couple meets, something just "clicks," and they live happily ever after. Maybe he's making the point that a relationship built on affection and hard work is equally as valuable as one founded in an innate romantic attraction. Think of it similar to Wax and Steris. Wax has said multiple times that he doesn't "love" Steris, but look what a great couple they've turned into.
  20. Well, it's possible that he couldn't bring one without the other. My personal theory is that we haven't had the last twist out of Gavilar yet. I get the feeling we'll end up begrudgingly liking him by the end of the series, much as we begrudgingly liked some aspects of TLR by the end of HoA.
  21. I'll be #147 in line at the San Diego signing!
  22. Yeah, I agree. I guess what I'm saying is that while it's clear they know stuff others don't, it's also clear there's plenty they don't understand. We shouldn't assume they know everything.
  23. You don't think there will be a tangible threat without all listeners going into voidform? We haven't met a living thunderclast yet, and the Unmade can apparently be quite deadly on their own. I think there will be plenty of room in the next 8000 or so pages for both commentary on social injustice and tangible threats. Probably quite a bit of both with a little bit of room left over of love triangles.
  24. Oh, didn't realize that. That's quite a jump in Part I chapters tho. 11 and 12 to 32?
  25. ( ꖘ ͜ʖ ꖘ ) Go on... I wonder if Nightblood can form a bond with his wielder, and thus limit (or exacerbate) some of the nastier side effects of using him.
