  1. While doing research for the JinDo article, I accidentally stumbled upon a major change in the tenth anniversary edition of Elantris: It appears that Brandon no longer uses the term "Jindoeese" for things related to JinDo. He simply uses "JinDo". So, for example, people from JinDo are no longer Jindoeese people, they are JinDo people. I'd like help in editing all the articles that contain "Jindoeese" to change it to "JinDo", because frankly there's too many for me. Thankfully Jindoeese already redirects to JinDo anyway, so there's no need to rename that. Speaking of renaming things, what do the admins think of moving the contents of Jindo to JinDo (note the capitalization), and then simply redirecting the former to the latter? The wrong capitalization of the article's title is just incredibly bothersome to me right now, but I'll understand if you think this is a bit on the obsessive side and that I should leave it as is. Edit: And then there's the many, many articles that use "Jindo" instead of "JinDo". *cries in a corner* Can we create a wiki bot for this?
  2. Apparition becomes more difficult the farther your target location is. He could've used a Portkey, but those are regulated by magical governments so he'd have to obtain authorization from the Ministry of Magic in the U.K. and perhaps obtain an official portkey from MACUSA. He probably considered the boat ride less of a hassle. I agree that Newt seems to be on the autism spectrum. That's a good theory. (Edit: Found this interesting alternative theory on Newt's behavior on Reddit.) As for my thoughts on the movie, I liked it over all but I have a couple of complaints. First, Katherine Waterston's acting felt a bit awkward at times, which was unfortunate given her significant screen time. Though she tried, her Tina Goldstein simply lacked the fierceness that I imagine an Auror (even an ex-Auror) ought to have. She is very cute, though. I think some of the blame can be placed on the directing and editing, anyway. Speaking of which, I thought they could've cut or changed some of the New Salem Philanthropic Society scenes. I mean, I know they needed to show how Credence and Modesty were being raised badly by their mother but some of those scenes were just odd, and they just made the movie more confusing than it needed to be.
  3. That imagery is just so awesome that I have no choice but to give in. Consider me converted to @Ookla the Indefinite's theory.
  4. For those looking for questions to ask, perhaps this one might interest you: Lift got her ability to turn food to Stormlight from the Nightwatcher, right? Hypothetically speaking, could Lift still be able to do this even without a Nahel bond? If so, what could she do with that Stormlight?
  5. Fixed. I'd like to invite you to contribute directly to the Coppermind by editing articles yourself when you have time. There aren't many contributors so sometimes issues stay unfixed for a long time (such as in this case).
  6. Well, maybe. My misgivings was due to Lift's well-known tendency to mess with Wyndle relentlessly. But now that I think of it further, if this was really a magical ability to immediately understand the workings of a language/dialect/slang, it would very much fit her latest Oath to "listen".
  7. Maybe Reya was Ambition? /wildspeculation Might make Stark's "Reya is Rayse's sister" theory more interesting if true.
  8. I dunno... The theory sounds cool and all, but wasing the slanging of the... Oh fud, I can't speak High Imperial. What I'm trying to say is that maybe this is just Brandon's latest quirky street slang. Lift's exactly the type of character who'd know this kind of stuff, I reckon. Edit: Resonance is an awesome term for those extra abilities!
  9. Wait, are you describing Nalthian Shadesmar? Where did you get that description? Edit:
  10. I was also confused by this, but then I remembered that Selish manifestations of Investiture are all based on shapes and forms. Think about it: The moment people discovered that certain shapes are associated with magic, those shapes (and the magical effects they produce) will definitely become a significant part of their culture, and will likely influence any writing system, political system, philosophy, or religion that they would develop in the future. This certainly happened when the people of Arelon discovered the Aons. So even long after Aona and Skai died, the way their power manifests on Sel still influences the various Selish cultures.
  11. Cool! I bet it's something incredibly embarrassing like Job-rakt-out-of-the-asshes or Flee-fornication. I had the same conclusion as cometaryorbit above, but that is one awesome scenario you've got there!
  12. Interesting. Perhaps the huge amount of Investiture that has passed through Szeth's body over the years gave his dead self a longer time limit in the Cognitive Realm, just like a certain character we know from another series. Or... maybe the girl could have been saved if her body also fell a hundred feet from the ground whilst being pummeled by a highstorm.
  13. I found Hoid. LOL. That must have been what started the event that Hoid referred to when he talked about spending "the better part of a year in a large stomach, being digested" back in WoR.
  14. Yeah, when I got to that scene I barely managed to stifle my laughter thinking of that particular Reddit comment and how mind-blown that fan must be right now. I've had a long-standing obsession with the Realmatic significance of metal (check this, this, and this), and Wyndle just went and fanned the flames. Edit: Come to think of it, there might already be an old WoB saying that spren can only become metal objects, but I can't find it right now. Also, regarding Ym and the Stump's spren, it's perfectly possible that a high level of variation appearance-wise exists within some Radiant spren species, so Ym and the Stump might still be-- or might have been, in Ym's case :'( -- proto-Edgedancers. Perhaps Wyndle just looks that way because of his calling as a gardener, a calling that not everyone in the Ring might necessarily share.
  15. Isn't Nazh's real name Nazrilof? I also thought that Bavadin being female (while contradicting a previous WoB that implied Bavadin is male) is pretty cool and opens up a lot of possibilities. Maybe she was Rayse's lover back in Yolen. Maybe Hoid was attracted to her but she rejected him and turned bad in the end, causing his grudge against her. Maybe she appeared to Kelsier's Cognitive Shadow after the events of Secret History and seduced him into betraying Sazed. Okay, that last one was me being the crazy theorist again. Rusts, how I missed doing that! (Edit: Of course, a female character need not be defined by her relationship with men. Bavadin could just as well be fully autonomous, helping Rayse only because it would further her own ends.) I was kind of disappointed that Brandon only named one of the systems' suns, namely Mashe of the Selish system. Because of this, we have a star chart where the stars are labeled not by their name but by the name of their main Shardworld (e.g. Sel instead of Mashe). It's just a minor thing that really gets to me somehow. Khriss doesn't even name the two stars of her own homeworld. Tsk. (Come to think of it, I would not be surprised if Roshar's sun is in fact called Roshar as well. :P) Edit: Could Drominad be the name of the star in the Drominad system?
  16. I think it's safe to say that the stuff changed in the new WoR edition can no longer be considered canon, so that includes reviving Shardblade victims some time after death. But yeah, I also wish Lift could have resurrected that girl. It would have made that hug that Lift gave Nale in the end much more bearable to read for me. Storming Darkness...
  17. I thought it was pretty obvious that Arclo is a Dysian Aimian. Hoid already described the "tear off chunks of body parts" ability of that particular type of Aimian way back in WoK. Name-dropping Axies was probably another hint from Brandon that this is an Aimian we are seeing. And given that Arclo implied he wasn't Siah, he could only be Dysian.
  18. So now we know what a Dysian Aimian can do. Arclo is super creepy. But also, super AWESOME! "I will listen to those who have been ignored." Nice Oath. I think the hugging scene was a bit much, though. Too melodramatic for me. But the Shardfork scene afterwards totally made up for it. So, was Ym the cobbler that Wyndle talked about? If so, it implies that Ym's spren was also part of Wyndle's "Ring". I wonder what type the Stump's spren is, given that she has access to Regrowth as well.
  19. I think Threnody is pretty interesting as well, and yet it also doesn't have a moon. Another interesting thing is that the planet Elegy in the same system does have a moon and they even have a name for it: Coronach. I wonder if Elegy will be a setting for a future short story. Maybe space-faring travelers like The Ones Above could visit planets like Elegy that don't have perpendicularities and interact with people there. (I was about to state that Nalthis doesn't have a moon, but a quick search in the Warbreaker PDF showed that it does have one.)
  20. Here's a video by Hank Green, one half of the Vlogbrothers (makers of several educational YouTube channels including CrashCourse and SciShow): The most interesting part for me is near the end, where he talks about the possibility of people changing their sexual orientation and/or sexual behavior over the course of their lifetime, and how some do this relatively frequently in a certain period of time. I think this complexity is obvious, because all this sexual orientation stuff happens in the brain, that immensely dynamic, highly adaptive organ that could be affected by an infinite number of things. As such, I agree with Hank that we really can't tell people to stay in particular sexual orientation boxes, no matter how progressive we think our boxes are. The few experiences I've had with sexual intimacy (however short-lived) have all been with women. All my crushes (some bordering on obsession) have been women. Even the fictional characters that I've been sexually attracted to (yes, I am that weird) have all been women. However, years of being insulted and ridiculed just because I do not follow certain gender norms in a society that worships macho men has made me very sensitive of how I think about men. I am fairly certain that I am more bisexual than I have ever allowed myself to be, but the operant conditioning given to me by my environment makes me feel extremely uncomfortable with any homosexual thought or feeling, and I usually suppress any conscious ones whenever they arise. That's how my brain works right now, and I don't know if (and how) that will change later on.
  21. Oh yeah, that's probably a better way to put it. It sucks when you have to vote between two unsavory choices, especially since it seems impossible for third party candidates to win in America. The Philippines doesn't have a two-party system. No siree. This year, we had not two, but six BAD choices to choose from for President. We had two candidates known for incompetence, two with mental health issues (one of them is Duterte), one with a pending corruption case, and a dead guy. Yes, we had a dead guy on the ballot. He was a relatively unknown old dude who died months before the election, and they forgot to remove his name. Pathetic. I simply didn't vote. I just couldn't be bothered to choose between those clowns. But yeah, I understand that your situation is very different. The United States Presidency is basically the most powerful position on Earth right now, so it's important that a madman doesn't take it no matter what. Go give that bellicose idiot the humiliating defeat he deserves, Stateside Sanderfans!
  22. To tell you the truth, I'm actually more comfortable in group conversations with pretty women if there's an extroverted guy there to keep the girls interested. In such cases, I just let the guy talk first and wait for him to say something that I could respond intelligently to. I would have no qualms being my natural opinionated self with the guy because I have no interest in him liking me. Even if a girl starts joining in, I'm usually too busy organizing my thoughts to be nervous at that point. I've actually gained a few female friends this way, and I even dated one of them. Sadly, it didn't work out due to a lack of shared interests, but we're still close friends to this day.
  23. Oh man, why hasn't that occurred to me at all? Stupid skaa! Well, I certainly would love to help her if I can. We'll see what happens.
  24. Well, thankfully most Americans will be voting for Hillary, right?
  25. Oh, I heard about that guy. We call him the American version of our dear President Rodrigo Duterte. Edit: I'm from the Philippines. Americans say Duterte is the Trump of the East, but there's a big difference: Duterte has already won the Presidency. And to be perfectly clear, both of them scare me, but I'm more scared of the guy with decades of experience in extrajudicial killings and whose assassins are currently roaming streets near me and could target me by mistake. Though of course, death by U.S. drone could hypothetically happen to me as well if I am unlucky enough. After all, Trump thinks the Philippines is a terrorist nation, so a Trump Presidency could make my life slightly more dangerous than it is now.
