  1. In the first trial @Through The Living Glass@Spark of Hope@Tinwatcher@TwinStorm@RoyalBeeMage@Wyver@THE DEMON@SpartanBrigade@SpiritOfWrath The plane continues to warp; the walls close in around the remaining competitors, and the entire space begins to shrink. Converging on a single, white-robed form. And the ground... the ground, brilliant red, begins to Change. The serpents everywhere shriek, and begin to... meld? Their bodies fuse together, and the red light connects to the dark substance permeating the water, running through it and setting everything alight. A superorganism. The ground appears to take on a life of its own, and begins to absorb anyone that resists. She feels a sense of... satisfaction? from the being in her head, and the serpents slowly pull away from her, carving a path for her towards the Beyonder. He comes into view, standing like a God in the crumbling plane, robes illuminated by the red light. He matches her gaze, and she senses the subtlest movement in his masked head. Almost like a nod. Then he teleports away from her, and stretches his arm out in her direction. And she falls into her worst nightmare. The Beyonder sighs in his head. Complete your first task. Not every fight is won through resistance. The rest you must figure out yourself, rejected one. The Beyonder looked up at her, meeting her eyes as she flapped above the sea of writhing forms, trying but failing to reach her. The Beyonder stood in the middle of that sea. Despite her not being able to see his face, he seemed... amused. But completely serious at the same time. You know what you must do, loyal one.
  2. The voice sounds amused. Finally. Immediately, the grip of the darkness on him loosens, and he is able to free himself. The shadow serpents move away, clearing a path from him to the Beyonder.
  3. The serpents continue to tear him down. He takes a step, and the darkness in the water writhes around his legs, pulling him down. He notices with alarm that he is beginning to sink into the earth. His heart pounds, and at the angle he is now at, he is almost looking down at the Beyonder. The man in white looks up at him, and the voice speaks in his head, one. Final. Time. Do not resist.
  4. Dang I gotta finish this book ASAP
  5. ... Maybe they did But eventually, some beings came along that didn't die THOSE beings are the ones we are all descended from The ones that survived Well... yes, kind of But not really Humanity evolved on Earth and not Mars because of the perfect combination of existing conditions, existing life forms, and the right genetic mutations happening at the right time
  6. I don't know And maybe God is the answer But I see no reason why the possibility of God is held above the others Also, I don't believe our universe was "created with everything we need" for us Yes, Earth does sustain us seemingly perfectly, but I think you have the cause and effect relationship of that wrong These conditions do not exist to fit us; we evolved to fit the conditions
  7. KΓ©amen Wither had always wanted to change the world. Then it went and changed without him. He remembered exactly where he stood when the Lord Ruler fell. He remembered watching the riots in Luthadel from his rooftop, prepared to flee at a moment's notice, escape the crackdown that would inevitably follow. And then he had seen Her. The one they called the Survivor's Heir. She had flown through the skies, a breeze in the darkness, and crashed into Kredik Shaw. He had stood, transfixed, waiting for hours, watching dawn rise, pondering her fate. And then the announcement had come. God was dead. The world had changed. And all KΓ©amen had done was stand there and watch. KΓ©amen had stayed in Luthadel for a short while, closely following news of the new king and his mistborn. Finally, he had received a new message from his employer. KΓ©amen was to pay a visit to the small town of Blackkeep, and keep an eye on the events there. To leave the center of the action pained him, but he had obeyed, earning his pay. As a skaa with criminal parents, he didn't have a lot of options for employment. And his current employer, the one he had had for the last year, payed well. Unlike his family that he had left behind, KΓ©amen didn't have to live every day fearing it might be his last, stealing and fighting to survive. Instead, he dealt in a far more potent resource. Secrets. From a young age, he had always had a natural affinity for manipulating information. For a long time, that affinity hadn't helped him. He didn't have the strength nor the will to be a thief, and so he was always pushed aside. Eventually, KΓ©amen had fled the Twists, not knowing where he was headed. Then his employer found him, and he finally began to put his life together. KΓ©amen didn't know as much as he wanted to about the mysterious man. He fed him secrets, and yet the man held so many away from him. Of course, the strategy worked, KΓ©amen supposed. The man's mysteriousness only made KΓ©amen try harder to find them. So he stood now, stepping out of the carriage on the shores of the Black Lake, performing the task left for him. And he would perform it to perfection.
  8. First off: I actually disagree with this. Heavily. Math and physics are heavily intertwined; maybe you could argue that math doesn't "affect" external phenomena - but that's because it's already an integral part of them. Math is basically the rules that govern the universe. That's... not really the idea I was trying to give off. I sincerely believe what I stated to be truth. I am just recognizing that there is always a chance that I don't know the full picture. This is a good example for the "I don't know." I don't know why stuff behaves that way at a quantum level. I won't try to identify a cause. I'm no physicist. BUT I do believe there is a reason. Even if we don't know it yet.
  9. Okay So It appears I have missed a chunk of this discussion Instead of going back and responding to everyone individually, I will just state my perspective on this: When I refer to the word "belief" or "believe", I mean I take it as truth, but still recognize I might be wrong. I do believe there is, indeed, an objective "truth". As in, there are things that happen, and while they may be perceived differently, they most definitely happen. We do not necessarily know this truth. But science, math, physics, all attempt to objectively describe it. Can different people perceive the same event differently? Yes, definitely. But does their perception change what actually happened? I don't think it does. Not unless there is some weird law in the universe about space time bending to our perception of events, which I won't discount, but even in that case, that law exists. Everything follows rules. We may not know them, we may have them wrong, but they're there. This is starting to sound a little religious, and I don't really want to go in that direction (I'll address it later), but my point is, everything happens for a reason. And I don't mean that in the "it was meant to be" type way, I mean it in the "every instant is a direct reaction to the previous instant. Every movement is a direct reaction to force applied" type way. For religion and all that stuff, I go with the approach of accepting what we do not know. I trust verifiable facts. I also recognize that not everything can be concretely verified, that a human lens may not be perfect, and I'm good with that. I identify as atheist, because I trust science, and as far as I am aware, there is no concrete scientific proof for God or any other faith. This actually leads me to a question. I'm genuinely curious about this, and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, but I often see Christians act 100% sure that God exists. My question to you is: what makes you think that? Honestly. What evidence makes you believe in God's existence? Once again, I'm genuinely curious.
  10. Please Please don't die It won't make things better I know stuff may seem really hard right now. But that will pass. It will fade. Things will get better. In this specific scenario, I would just come clean to both friends, make it clear there was a misunderstanding, and ask for forgiveness. And listen to them. *hugs*
  11. Oof Oh Well *infinite hugs* *more hugs* You’re super brave for doing this. Even if stuff doesn’t work out, you should know you did something incredible Being scared is normal It means things are changing
  12. *squeeze* Yeah I feel you, and that’s super hard Parents are really hard sometimes, and they fail to realize the impact they have. They think they’re always right. They need to hear you. You shouldn’t be suffering A note might work But you should also try being honest with them. About your emotions, at least.
  13. *clears throat*

My followers (or anyone else seeing this)

I have something to ask of you

You may have noticed I have been changing my profile picture occasionally

The original idea was to be a different Cosmere villain each month, but so far I’ve gone through Odium, Ruin, and the Lord Ruler, and I don’t know what to do next

There’s no one else quite at the same scale, you know?

The other option is slightly progressing towards slightly more and more morally good characters as we go on, in which case I’m thinking of doing Thaidakar (you know who) next

    Advice is appreciated

    1. Kansas Stormcursed

      Kansas Stormcursed

I like the idea of progressing toward good characters, it lets you cover a wide range of characters

    2. KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren

      KaladinsSenseOfHumourSpren

So do I. I think after Thaid you should go for Taravangian or maybe Nale, or even Hrathen.

    3. π–‚π–π–Žπ–—π–™π–Š

      π–‚π–π–Žπ–—π–™π–Š

Taravangian. If you want to go for villians.

  14. *hugs* Its not stupid But fictional characters are also fictional for a reason We can’t all be Kaladins, or Elends, or Kvothes (although I haven’t read The Name of the Wind) And that’s okay I… disagree with a lot of the religious points raised here, but I don’t feel like this is the best place to discuss that. Just, quickly, for Hawks: Don’t feel the need to believe something you don’t. Belief is just that; what you regard as true. And, while I’m a constant advocate for truth, this is something the actual truth of which doesn’t necessarily have a major impact on your life. I think I’m not maybe really making myself clear, but my point is, don’t force yourself to conform. Don't let anybody force you to conform.

  16. "That is understood. My question is whether the second reward - the potential support of the Stars to the plight in Açila - would still be on the table. I just need to be sure. If it is so..." Ver turned to Jidah and the others for confirmation. "I am sure we would be eager to carry out our end of this arrangement."
