This was my question, yay! The new Epics are the ones from the "case files" in the various exclusive editions of Steelheart, namely Newton, Regalia, and (I believe) Obliteration.
-
Which signing will you be at? *Steelheart Edition*

Hoping to make it this Saturday! (10/5) -
The word "honorable" can hardly be coincidental. The word "broken" also stands out. Might this be related to the splintering of Honor?

One thing I've heard (possibly from Writing Excuses) is that readers typically skip over the dialogue tags anyway, once we figure out who is speaking. So in a way, a different verb or adverb with each one can be distracting. It also goes against "show, don't tell". But I suppose it's a personal preference. I haven't seen many examples of that in published works.

Where can the prior show archives be found?
PhilV replied to Jollyreaper's topic in Writing Excuses and Intentionally Blank
I think season 8 is not in the archive area because it is still "active". The episodes are accessible on the main part of the WE website or in the podcast feed (via a podcast app). -
My mistake. Thickness affects the height of the forcefield, straightness affects the strength (p. 257 hardcover).
-
The book also states that the thickness of a Line of Forbiddance affects its strength. Maybe Lines of Warding (i.e. circles) behave the same. So the circle in Nebrask might be wicked thick to counteract its shallow curve.

I see we've Ventured into cosmere-related pick-up lines (That was almost inadvertent)

"asthetic" instead of "aesthetic"?

Dang, I'd love to see that map.

http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/05/the-rithmatist-magic "Brandon Sanderson’s The Rithmatist Could Have Been an RTS Named ChalkCraft" Amusing article by Carl Engle-Laird, half of the Stormlight Archive re-read. Starcraft references abound.

I first thought of something like a wilderness guide. I assumed a "trailman's" flute would be made more rugged, to survive in harsher conditions.

Does the size of a spike have any affect on Hemalurgy? (wiki scan didn't turn up anything) If so, I could see that being a downside of using a small spike like a syringe. It would stand to reason, as the amount of metal has a clear correlation to power in Allomancy and Feruchemy.
-
The Mistborn Adventure Game includes "The Treatise Metallurgic", which has a lot of detail about the allomantic, feruchemical, and hemalurgic properties of each metal, at least in the Final Empire time period. It's not strictly canon, but it was done with Brandon's input and blessing. Crafty Games has a sample online (PDF).

Also, Ishikk mentions in his Interlude how the Purelake drains into the rock whenever highstorms go through that region... Edit: Now is a good time to buy the ebook! It's still on sale for $2.99.

Or something more like pool / billiards with metal balls, or balls with metal beads inside. You could offset the beads to make things more interesting.
-
That makes me think of a pool/billiards type of game, using metal balls. I should add that to the "Magic Games" thread.

(Theory) The Tanavallah: a Surgebinders Guide to Harmonics
PhilV replied to Isomere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can agree with an object, especially a piece of furniture, wanting to be a fine work, and appreciated for its beauty. But would a goblet prefer to be a pool of blood instead? I assumed that was more a result of Shallan's inexperience with soulcasting.- 89 replies

Aw, boo. Well, at least we know that they are important enough to be there in every volume.

One of my favorite things about WoK (besides the content), is the obvious care that went into the design and production of the hardcover book. Maps are fairly standard in fantasy epics, and the illustrations are a wonderful addition that enhance the worldbuilding. But the endpapers are just amazing (especially considering that they may be in-world artifacts, like the rest of the maps and illustrations), even if we don't yet know what they mean. (Plus the little touches like the embossed logo of the Windrunners on the cover.) So what do you think we will see for book two? I'm guessing we will see the same world map of Roshar (most likely in every book), and I can hope for a similar number of illustrations throughout the text, but will it include the same diagram of orders and surges? The same map of Shadesmar? Or something different (and undoubtedly mysterious and intriguing)?

Couple additions in the past few days: WoB and MAG.

Theory: Adonalsium cannot be put back together again

If you think microscopically (and add god-like powers), it would be possible to pull the merged piece of glass apart and remake the two original pieces, atom-by-atom. -
I wonder if there are any non-superficial carryovers relating to the Shattered Plains that might shed light on their background in the Stormlight Archive. They look similar and are both the setting for a war involving bridgemen, but does Dragonsteel contain anything about their history, or other details that might have come with them? I suppose we may never know (or very few of us anyway).

That's just fascinating, that spren would look different to people of different cultures. Possibly due to different cognitive ideals? That is to say, my shared cultural representation of anger may be blood boiling, or lightning, or something completely different. So it's Platonism, but with the idea that it's relative to a culture (or individual). Kind of calls to mind the bits in Warbreaker
