  1. erm . everyone? seriously I can't get enough of Stormlight. But if I had to narrow it down I guess Rock, Teft, Sigzil and the Lopen. BRIDGE FOUR!
  2. I had several friends say similar things Calderis but I've never had a issue with Shallan in the first book. But as long as I enjoy the characters I could be fine with reading about them sitting around and having tea for an entire book and be fairly happy. The first book of the Robin Hobb's newest Fitz and Fool series is a great example of this if you have read it.
  3. Glad to be of service :). But seriously its a rather hard question to answer with just 2 books, If i was just considering my first read through I would have a hard time picking, since WoK introduced me to a world i completely fell in love with but WoR just expanded on that and took me for a emotional roller coaster ride. On re reading the books I do find i enjoy WoR more. No matter how many times I re read it I find myself unable to put it down even though I know whats going to happen.
  4. Book 8 is by far the best! When Lift eats both Odium and Cultivation and becomes the new shard Indigestion was by far the best part of the series!
  5. I really like the 'greeting people after death' idea! I always tied the Nightwatcher and Cultivation together and felt she was seen as a nature / life cycle deity. So having death associated with her never felt off to me. Our own mythologies have several gods that were tied to both life and death.
  6. Have to agree with Calderis here. Maybe if all the soulcast blood was actually hers it could have been a possibility. But we know its not and that she tried to simulate a 'accident' even if she did cut deeper than intended and was found moments after there was never any danger at all in my mind. I also can't see them beginning to bleed people before they take them to the hidden wards, that would be a bit obvious to others around them. While blood letting may have been seen as a useful medical practice in our medieval ages, medicine is quite advanced on Roshar in thanks to the Heralds and spren. I imagine the 'we cannot let them leave is they begin to recover' is due to the fact that while we don't know the exact numbers of members of the Diagram they are likely still limited in staff in the bleeding stations. You pointed out yourself the qualifications that i believe would exempt Shallan as well. 2 and 4 are pretty much the same thing and while she may not have been Jasnah's ward for long it would be fairly obvious to Mr T with Jasnah waiting outside her room the entire time that she is important to her. As for 3, if she lowly. while a darkeyes of the 1st Nahn may be high enough to be considered into marriage into a lighteyes house, to the Alethi even a beggar that was a lighteyes of the 10th dahn is above the richest and most sucessful darkeyes. Shallan was of the 5th dahn so 'lowly' doesn't really fit. Yes we know some lighteyes were bled but Kharbranth is a port city that people the world over visit and many of those places do not see 'lighteyes' as being anything special.
  7. I agree it is plausible, we know its been roughly half a year between the injury and the draft for Amaram's army. and that Roshone has been very reclusive durning that time. But it still feels a bit off Maybe i'm just annoyed at myself that i've read WoK at least 8 times now and this is the first time it really caught my attention.
  8. When Roshone first appears he is wearing a takama so covering it up seems unlikely. I did tweet Peter about it and he said infection set in. Stills feels very odd since infection is very obvious thanks to rotspren.
  9. Noticed this on my latest re read of WoK and its been driving me nuts, I searched but couldn't find it if had been discussed before, so if it has I apologize. In ch 44 Kaladin mentions that Roshone has a peg leg but in ch 41 we see its Rillir who's leg was almost torn off Kaladin even mentions it would need amputation Roshone had a tusk in his leg near his femoral artery, which Lirin removed along with the splinters from it then stitched up the wound and he was then sent home to be cared for by his servants. So when and why was Roshone's leg amputated? Or was this just a little mistake that has been overlooked?
  10. Whatever happens to it I expect the Shin get involved somehow. In one of Szeth's interludes in WoK he tells us "He was required to carry the Blade until his death, after which Shin Stone Shamans would recover it from whomever had killed him."
  11. Re reading WoK again and noticed this. In ch 44 The Weeping when Roshone exits the carriage "Roshone had gained more weight, and his lighteyes's suit had been retailored to fit his increased girth. He wore a wooden peg on his right stump, hidden by the cuff of his trouser, and his gait was stiff as he climbed out of the carriage and ducked beneath the canopy, grumbling." but in ch 41 we see that it is Rillir that has a crushed leg, Roshone has a whitespine tusk in his leg but it is removed along with the bone splinters then stitched up. Don't think i'm missing anything but i'm pretty sure Roshone never had his leg amputated. It only mentions that Rillir had a tourniquet on his leg and that full amputation would come later. Not sure if anyone had noticed this before, i searched around a bit and didn't see any reference to it.
  12. Best pop culture reference since the Six Demon Bag. http://www.wowhead.com/item=94154
  13. Khriss is a character from the unpublished White Sands novel.
  14. ♫I've got a theory, it could be bunnies!♫
  15. Nice catch! I didn't even notice the writing on the page. I'm guessing it's from Jasnah's notes. ok.. this is odd.. Cannot upvote for some reason. I'm logged in but the forums are acting as if i'm not. The icons to read latest post and those that indicate which i've posted in are missing as well. hmm...
  16. Between spren and the Heralds teachings most of these things are explained.
  17. Spren are the collective cognitive representations of peoples beliefs. I believe there are Three 'god' spren out there. We have evidence of a belief in Three gods from the past (Dalinar's Vision with the midnight essences). We know three seems linked to bondsmith somehow (remember the info in the epigraph came after the Recreance so its likely been tainted or altered) and Bondsmith primary divine attribute is Pious. The Stormfather and Nightwatcher are likely two of these 'god' spren. I'm not sold on Cusciesh being the third, though its possible. We know spren come in many sizes so just because he is big and unique doenst mean he is on the same level as the Stormfather or Nightwatcher.
  18. Harakeke I'm guessing you mean WoR illustrations but if you need WoK you can find those here http://brandonsanderson.com/the-way-of-kings-interior-illustrations-now-uploaded/
  19. Something else to keep in mind ch. 77 Shallan's thoughts when reading her copy of Words of Radiance. So you can't take quotes from it as exact facts. The Churck by this time is likely trying to distance itself from the Knights.
  20. really nice catch Gruion! upvote that man!
  21. So we know there are 3 Bondsmith (or were) and they had specific spren. ch 44 epigraph We know from Pattern that some spren survived the betrayal of the Knights. ch 75 Can't find the exact quote but we know that the Stormfather is a large spren who is the congnitive representation of the Almighty aka Honor. The Nightwatcher is very likely the same but for Cultivation. In Dalinar's flashback in Way of Kings ch 19 It seems likely there are 3 major spren and these are the ones that bonded with Bondsmith. The Stormfather, The Nightwatcher and one more. The question is who is the third? I doubt its connected to Odium. Was there another Shard on Roshar? I seem to recall that that all spren are either made from Honor, from Cultivation or a Mix? so could this third Major spren be a representation of that mix ? Thoughts?
  22. I'll admit i wanted to believe the drawing of the statue was somehow linked to Jasnah but I'm pretty sure it was just wishful thinking of someone looking for any excuse for her survival. I makes much more sense this is somehow connected to Shalash, who we know goes around destroying her image around the world and is the Herald associated with Shallan's Radiant order, the Lightweavers. I really do think we are trying to come up with crazy ways for her survival. Its likely possible you could have some expert artist craft a statue of yourself in stone then maybe even soulcast it into a 'clone'. We know the Soulcasting the Ten Essences are fairly easy. But where in the would would she have kept a lifesize statue of herself? If she had time to soulcast that why not just do away with her attackers as she did those in the ally? Not to mention all the different infused gemstones you would likely need for such a complex soulcast. I think Occam's razor applies here. She was hurt badly, perhaps even to the point of death or near death. Stormlight healed her enough to let her make a desperate escape.
  23. Posted this elsewhere but can put it again here. First the scene. By this time Kaladin has made two conflicting oaths, one not being very honorable at all as well as his hatred for Amaram. The things had begun to weaken the bond between himself and Syl. We see that Syl is slowly losing hersel and Kaladin is having difficulity infusing. I think at the point he is falling he forces the stormlight and in doing this shreads the bond between him and Syl which is what 'kills' her. I'm sure it likely involves spiritwebs and such but I just don't understand that well enough to work it into the explination
  24. Thats amazing Harakeke. Can you use it to translate the glyphs on the scroll artwork that seems to show the swordforms? I'm curious if that is actually what the scroll is about.
  25. Just wanted to say thanks to all of you working to figure this out, I knew I'd have no way of solving it. My first thought on reading it was 'thank god there are people smart enough on 17th shard to figure this out!'
