  1. I'm not sure if that's the fault of the authoritarian regimes being more recent, but instead of the global backsliding in democracy. As an American, we've had democracy for a while, and we're about to inaugurate a rapist and a fascist...for the second time....
  2. I mean, Preservation could listen and Ruin could talk
  3. We have had some form of democracy for far longer than a few hundred years.
  4. I suspect that aluminum would stop Retribution from reclaiming the stormlight, so it might be possible that a very few spheres still exist.
  5. Magic already worked everywhere. It was just hard to get it offworld. Before Retribution, Axindweth used Feruchemy. It was just hard to get offworld. I think shardplate is just different now than it was. Aux is probably not dead in WaT, but dies later, offscreen, probably related to the Dawnshard.
  6. We have historical evidence that democracy is the superior form of government. You may have a benevolent dictator, the current generation of radiants in fact probably would make effective governors, but you cannot guarantee that their successors will either be a competent or as dedicated to helping. There is no way to keep rulers accountable in this system and corruption will inevitably set in. I would disagree. Democracy in fiction can be extremely interesting. The conflicts in the Basin in TLM and the government turmoil was an example of democracy in fiction done well. It's more than that now. It's where a significant portion of the Alethi population call home. What about Germany or Japan after ww2? Germany literally had a revolution during ww1. If that doesn't show popular support, I don't know what does. Part of the reason that the Weimar republic failed was resentment from the Treaty of Versailles, which had nothing to do with "forcing democracy on a people." Democracy is objectively better.
  7. That seems like a bad idea. The oaths are vague enough, and the people and spren varied enough, that it seems like it would result in a military dictatorship/oligarchy with extra steps.
  8. We could have two versions, a portable one with just a deck of cards, and a more compex one with large terrain features and a board
  9. Is it always best of three, or are there multiple set ups?
  10. Also, cards in a standard 52 card deck are pretty big if you want to lay them out in a 10x10. Something like tiles would almost work better with some thin terrain cards to place down beneath them.
  11. How would you decide to set up terrain? Would there be certain templates, or does each player take a turn placing a terrain card?
  12. Why did you make the text so big?
  13. I totally want a Khriss Cosmere textbook
  14. I think I saw that one. Didn't it get locked?
  15. Okay that's fair. This is an interesting conversation, but I get the feeling we're getting nowhere.
  16. Actually it's OB, and it doesn't say if it actually it is towers. pg 183 pg 184 This is about all I can glean from that section So we know the King is both the most powerful, but the most important. Basically a chess King and Queen combined. I'm guessing he's supposed to be a shardbearer. And we know squires are some kind of support card, maybe good in swarms.
  17. Sorry, here I meant that I might stop a radiant from breathing in more stormlight, not using what they already have. Source? @Qianweilian Sorry, but I didn't post the original quote. I have no idea what @alder24 means by that. Considering how both sides have healers, I don't think this is all that different from regular troops. What I think has potential is a bullet that shatters in someone's body and spreads shards of aluminum all over. Fair. That's true They will both stumble and have to create entirely new strategies Time dilation on Roshar gives more than enough time for training Does Elendel...have walls? Also, you forget climate. Roshar has significantly more oxygen than Scadrial, and that means singers who attack Scadrial would need weeks to become effective. The Fused have voidlight, but there are only about 2000 sane fused left. Whereas, Scadrian troops on Roshar would literally be better at everything for a while as they get a lot more oxygen then they are used to.
  18. Actually, that makes me think that a Leecher might be able to stop someone from using surges whatsoever if they latched on. Might be a way to stop Stormlight healing. I mean, we know that misplaced spikes cause immense pain, and if you just poked an animal with a bullet and loaded it into a gun, it might be very effective war crime filled weapons
  19. Oh, I forgot that part. I read WoR like 5 years ago.
  20. The problem is, it feels like "break" and "change" aren't really that different. It might make since if we can 10 or 16, but I feel like 4 can be divided up more.
  21. I disagree. What I think the fumble in the ending was Dalinar dying and then, literally, the next page Taravangian magically gets his Blackthorn.
  22. Does Roshar have Artillery? Also, maybe a maximum width of chasm for Shardbearer to move through Maybe add archers that have friendly fire, but do a lot of damage Add pike blocks, spearman, heavy vs light cavalry, soulcasters, siege towers, bridge crews to cross chasms, officers, lighteyed sword blocks, etc..
  23. I don't remember Leshwi showing up in Words of Radiance I think Seekers can detect lightweaving, due to in TLM pg 182, Wax says that the seeker can see his Feruchemy, which he notes is due to skill, not strength like Vin piercing copperclouds. If Seekers can learn to detect Feruchemy, then I suspect they can also detect other Investiture.
  24. L'il Wayne: Wait, if it's a cycle, then doesn't it have to loop back around to "kill god"? Teacher: ...I guess we're going on a field trip...
  25. Maybe there's a custom board like dnd or Warhammer
