  1. With regards to Kaladin, I think his next ideal will have something to do with leading, as two of his four are already about protecting. Maybe he takes charge of Kholinar and prepares it for the everstorm? Szeth is now just annoying, so hopefully he grows up or gets killed off by the end of the book. Dalinar is in a pretty good place mentally and emotionally at the moment, so his role will probably be about organising Urithiru and exploring his bond with the Stormfather. I think Shallan and Jasnah will have to go their own ways. Jasnah will probably stay in Urithiru while Shallan investigates the Ghostbloods/returns to Jah Keved/follows Kaladin to Kholinar via Oathgate.

  2. My theory is when Sadeas was at Urithiru, he bumped into Jasnah, who had just arrived there at many months of hard travel and self discovery. On learning that Sadeas had got there first and that Shallan was getting all the credit, she got so angry that she soulcasted Sadeas into a flowerpot. As a flowerpot, he did not have enough of a cognitive or spiritual presence to bond a shardblade, so it appeared, and fell into the flowerpot.

I think that ties up all the loose ends.

In book 5, we discover that the flowerpot was actually Gaz, and that Shallan employed him to stand in for Sadeas with some light weaving tricks to make him look like Sadeas. What actually happened was that they found Oathbringer in his room with a note saying, "Went out for some milk, should be back in three months from Shinovar. S." Sadeas was later revealed to have died en route, crushed by a falling greatshell. (Wit's fault)

  3. - Nalan is also in possession of a giant block of ice in which Spock has cryogenically frozen himself.

    Fixed.

Also, don't forget the part when the piper in the night appears and the entire third section turns into a musical with attached sheet music, to be written by Howard Tayler.

My favourite song was when Kaladin reacts to Shallan being stuck in the carriage exclaiming, "don't put Baby in the corner", before singing "I've had the life before death" to the tune of "I've had the time of my life" in a duet with Shallan.

  4. I thought that Barndon missed a trick though in largely glossing over the fact that Jasnah was dead. Admittedly, this might just be because Shallan is so used to suppressing painful memories that she pushes the feelings away and because she is the most prominent viewpoint, we don't get much of a sense of loss. I still think it could have been handled better, though.

  5. I was underwhelmed by Jasnah's return. I was 99% sure that she would come back and the only surprise was that she didn't return earlier. Also, Shallan. I really don't understand what goes on in her head. She is easily the creepiest person in the book. And Szeth, I hate him so much. Why can't he behave like an adult instead of like a 4 year old with a nuke.

These really jumped out at me but I still loved the book. Sometimes, flaws are what make works of art great.
