  1. My family is pretty big on board games. We've got all those classic ones like Monopoly, and Clue, and Life. We've got several different stylistic Monopoly games and iterations of Scrabble. Risk, of course. Our common favorite seems to be trivia games (those are my personal favorite since I absorb a significant amount of entertainment and scholastic knowledge (basically, I know all kinds of weird crap.)) And I plan to be heavily involved in all forms of entertainment someday, so it's good to stumble across question s i don't know the answer to, then I got learn about the topic of the question. For example, I have not watched Mash, and we have a television & movie trivia game, so obviously there was going to be a Mash question or two. But anyway, we've always been big on board games, trivia being the family favorite. I want to play Settlers of Cataan, Bang, and Small World. Dixit looks awesome too, but that one's a card game.
  2. been playing since I was six. My first deck was a goblin deck my moms built for me. After that they let me use their cards and I discovered Slivers. Have been loyal to the creatures ever since my very second deck. Red/blue slivers with bunch of walls. It annoyed them thoroughly, and a friend of the family was also a fan of slivers and said he was proud of me lol. I have all of his cards now, and his sliver deck as well as another deck of his. Both of which are considered legendary among my close group of people. I have since gone on to make over 30 of my own decks, 14 of which have stayed intact for over half my life. My newest permanent addition is a white knight deck full of all sorts of things I would prefer not to talk about since I have looked into it online (the only instance in which I have ever looked at anyone else's deck lists) to see if I was doing the unspoken things without breaking rules, and I indeed am, but have not seen anyone else doing it that has been published online. This confirmed to me that i had really hit on something, and that other people likely have, but I'm thankful those individuals have not put anything into the public. I suppose it's our secrets. I have collected both Unglued and Unhinged, and plan to someday have the entire Weatherlight Saga in binders. I have a sentimental attachment to those 13 particular sets of cards as well as the aforementioned two parody sets. I still consider Tempest to be their most innovative addition to the game for reasons detailed in a lengthy essay of mine I wrote in response to a debate I had with my moms and later reused with a similar discussion with my friend, who has always traded essays and conversational diatribes with me.
  3. Animaniacs/Pinky & the Brain?
  4. I have tried to play guitar for pretty much my entire life. My mom had a hard time teaching me because 1.) it comes naturally to her; and 2.) I'm left-handed and she has no idea what to do. It's weird, because this is the only area I have had any trouble being left-handed. Because i got kicked out of my guitar class at my high school (the high school I'm speaking of is rather terrible anyway; that school district is well-known for its problems.) He kicked me out because I was playing left-handed. It started off with him telling me to play it the other way, and I tried it and explained to him it wasn't working nearly as well. He told me to do it anyways. At first (and I don't know why after dealing with these people all my life), I thought he was just trying to give legitimate, kind advice. so I said everything was alright, I would get it down, and I even showed him I understood which strings were which, what frets were, and I even played a really simple thing (Smoke on the Water's opening) so he could be assured I would keep up. I said I could play like this. And he said, I'll never forget it, "Not in my class you won't". It was tragic, because I thought for years he would be a great teacher, one of the few in the district. I was crushed. I had no idea being left-handed was going to cause me problems. I was completely blown away. It's just a hand. It was the strangest damnation thing I have ever experienced. it was almost dream-like, except I still can't figure out why since it followed the very formula that happened with me in every class every other day. I don't know, it seemed different. But the other day I was watching an Animals as Leaders video, and it inspired me to figure it out on my own. It'll be a good thing to practice on breaks during my writing. And just writing this makes me want to do it even more.
  5. Why do I get the feeling you know who Iron Maiden is?
  6. I love everything on your list except for Pern (couldn't get through Dragonriders), and Wreck-It Ralph (nothing wrong, just haven't seen it yet; it looked awesome.) I can't believe I remember Captain Planet as long as I have. I have a hard time remembering Lost World. And I really need to get caught up on Grimm at some point. I got halfway through the first season, and went, "I love this," then realized what that meant "If I like it, it's getting canceled." It seems to be doing really well, thankfully.
  7. I have wanted to pick up The Necromancer for years. What I mean is, when I found it in a bookstore, the bookstore was Border's. That's how long. We had a Borders in my mall up in Washington. My friend and I frequented the mall. When we went in, he went to the music section and drifted through the rest of non-fiction, while I obsessively looked through pretty much everything. But one day, I remember seeing that, it must have just come up because it was a super nice softcover trade paperback at the front of the store with some commercially popular books, and I mentioned to him I was thinking about getting, I thought it sounded awesome. His mom was there as well, can't remember what she was doing. But I told her what the name of it was, and she thought the word Necromancer had the definition of Necrophiliac and thought I was disturbed. My friend face-palmed. The whole thing was great. I guess what I mean to say is, should i have picked it up? lol
  8. Lots of awesome stuff in here. I was an avid fan of the DC Animated Universe thing, grew up watching all of those shows that were connected. I liked a lot of the Marvel animated cartoons as well. I see Frozen mentioned a bunch in here. It is one of Disney's best movies in that whole fairy tale adaptation thing they've been doing for decades. They're all good, and they all have very good points, but Frozen, for me, was one of the best approaches. another interesting thing was that it was apart of their Disney princess subseries, it was handled much differently than they usually do. While they had the epic plot Disney always puts in their fairy tale series, it was much more about the personal plot, and they did something that isn't seen enough in movies in general: they made it about the sibling relationship rather than the romantic relationship, which can be, and usually is, a lot more complex. Is anyone here a fan of Michael Chabon, Jonathan Lethem, Thomas Pynchon, Kevin Smith, Cheers, and Tool?
  9. Yeah, those definitely count. I never got into them but I know someone who was really into them.
  10. Yeah, I really need to read Kite Runner. I've fallen short in the literary world by not reading that guy's books. I need to read those, John green's, and Gillian Flynn's. I use to be so caught up. Night Circus was great, though. Good find. It's difficult to find popular contemporary books in used bookstores because people are still passing their copies around. Which is fine, that's probably one of my favorite things about books and movies is that when you get a new one, you give to someone else. But it makes it hard to buy it at a cost I can afford. So yeah, awesome find. Same with Kite Runner. Hunger Games was the same way until about last year, when it got to the point where everyone had copies (Harry Potter did this too; I think my generation remembers this experience thoroughly.) It's good to have no shame in enjoying 90's fantasy. Some of the best things in fantasy happened in the 90's (Harry Potter, Song of Ice & Fire, Sword of Truth, Wheel of Time)
  11. Fiction in general? Definitely MacKenzie McHale McAvoy from the Newsroom. Fighting the good fight for a change in news and a drive towards Idealism. It's the reason I like Dalinar and Leslie Knope so much. They are doing everything they can to keep rust together, and do a damnation good job of it. These characters are iterations of the ultimate character, the one who requires no mentioning since he's just so naturally implanted in the collective memory: Don Quixote. I've also found Lucifer probably one of the most dynamic characters ever. I know, it's an unpopular opinion. But I think he is easily one of the most important characters to ever be written about. I have mixed feelings about Yossarian, but I think I like him because he's one of the most prominent modern Tricksters ever, but has never, ever come up in the conversation of Trickster lore. Which i find odd, considering the popularity of Catch-22. Jim Halpert from the office because I have found myself identifying with his situations. Not only that, but the actor's portrayal and delivery of Jim's actions and words is the most well-executed I have ever seen. Those are my four characters in descending order.
  12. Went to a pre-screening of Tomorrowland on the 20th. I was thoroughly impressed. I don't think it'll crush the box office, since the Marvel movies are sort of drowning out all of the incredibly creative, innovative, beautiful movies that have been coming out the last couple years (2014 in particular.) But I do think it will be one of the big children's movies of the generation. It was beautiful, creative, new, and most importantly, heart was poured into it. You can tell. It's the successor to the Newsroom, in that it continues the argument for Optimism and Idealism versus Realism. Possibly one of the most important debates of our time. The movie was visually amazing, the characters except for one I won't discuss were filly realized, the adventure was high (pun intended), the plot was detailed, and the theme is both important, and thoroughly discussed. It was prominent. Which is important, especially for a child-centric audience. When it comes to children's movies, there are many instances where the plot can fall short, as long as their youthful audience can remember their characters, and get the point of the movie. And since children's movies do so well at this so frequently (especially in the last year or so), I don't get why people have such problems with them. Tomorrowland didn't even come close to falling short with its plot (it was fantastic), but even if it did, the characters were extremely memorable, and the theme was prominent, and both were very well explored. Also, the pacing, and the framework were done very well. All while being a very fun film. As for tv show, I simply have no idea. It's been a while. I feel deprived, but it's too distracting. Looking forward to Red Dwarf though. If you haven't heard, 11 and 12 are coming in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. 2016 will be a great year fro tv. Twin Peaks finale, x-Files miniseries, new Red Dwarf, and there's just a lot of good stuff on recently.
  13. I am listening to Sleater-Kinney's new album, and will be getting to 10 Years' new one real soon. Coincidentally, that is also the amount of years it has been Since Sleater-Kinney's last album.
  14. Fantastic metal band. not steaming, singing. They do a lot of story-themed music, usually inspired by literature. If you're into music, you'd probably recognize their mascot Eddie. They've been mega popular among the metal community since the 80's. They have a pretty large volume of music (pun intended.) Not Rush/Yes/Judas Priest-amount of albums, but They've got a bunch of stuff. If you like metal, you should check them out.
  15. "The Mission" from the train jacking in Final Fantasy 8, and Castlevania 64's soundtrack was really atmospheric and awesome.
  16. Yeah man, of course. Thanks to you too. That Alesana album was excellent. will be listening to more.
  17. I'm Sebastian, like the musical genius . . . Sebastian the crab. I know, not who you thought that was going to be.
  18. Alice: Madness Returns. I love it. I always play things on the most difficult levels, and usually they still aren't very difficult, but this one fulfills the promise. I feel like I get more out of a game if it is difficult. The level design is genius, and the hints back to both the Alice stories is remarkable while putting the story into a different context. The game juxtaposes macabre elements to more light-hearted elements in the most perfectly executed way.
  19. Based on your description, Final Fantasy is the obvious choice for me lol. It's honestly the only series I have revisited as many times as I have. Especially 4, 8, 10, 12, and the Legend games. but I'm not sure if 10 onward count as old-timey (none of them are for me since I grew up with them being a significant part of my life). But since some of them came out in the time of those Pokemon games, I am guessing these qualify. Spyro the dragon and Tony Hawk are also staples of the childhood demographic of my household (17 of us all in total.)
  20. That's really neat. I like music with literary themes for lyrics. Iron Maiden is awesome at doing that. I love them. I also really like Priestess, and they do this, though in a more low-key manner, in some their songs. Definitely going to listen to them today. If you're into concept albums with stories, I think you should look into Coheed & Cambria. All of their albums are a detailed account of a sci-fi story the band members created for a greater context for their music the be in. And Stone Sour's House Of Gold & Bones album is one of my favorite albums. If you want a singer who can scream and sing, look no further.
  21. After that, we could get Tony Chu on the case, to check for anything else.
  22. I hope it's a new game. I like Fallout and Elder Scrolls grew up with Morrowind being a big thing i, but i want something new. That Hunted: Demon's Forge game was great, and I heard Dishonored was amazing. So I hope it's something new.
  23. This just got put on tomorrow's list with Gaga/Bennett's Cheek-to-Cheek, animals as leaders' Joy of Motion, and Forgotten suns' When Worlds Collide. I'll have to check out Alesana: tomorrow's a good day for that. Oh, and Kamelot. My friend said I would like them, but that he didn't lol. So, two new bands tomorrow.
