The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Kion blinks and the force dissipates. “My name is Kion.” he says warily. “What are you doing here? Are you following me?” Underlines are incantations. So Tam has cast the spell sarcasm (which wouldn’t work very well, even if Kion tried it).- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
The man, whose name was Kion, jumped sideways in alarm. “Ah! Protection! Who are you?” The whole time, or rather, now it has been there the whole time, Kion has been surrounded by shimmering force.- 111859 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
After quite a while of lurking on it and reading, I’ve decided to join this. We’ll see how it goes; things may move too fast and I’ll quit again. In a random area of the Thread, a man crackles into being. “Ha! Counterspell this, Render! Or whatever… Teleportion!” The man then looks around, trying to determine where he had brought himself, and if he’d have to risk using more magic. Not sure if narrators can sense something like this. I might have him find an invitation to that party.- 111859 replies

A slight problem with the 17th Shard
DragonHeir replied to AltonicKeys's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
*has idea* What if instead of that way, you turn them another direction? I think you can make four groups of four with that right angle-looking section, the reverse of the way you did it. -
“Lots of ways. We could get carbon dioxide from the air and combine it with water, we could take coal and water, we could take it from anything alive, or anything edible.” I assume they were walking to the river Merryn mentioned. When they reach it, Nick dips his foot into the water and xenosuit roots begin to grow out from it. “I need water for a couple reasons.”
-
Rust, too, scrambles out of the way as the driver swerves to avoid you. “I think those might be sky people. Why is Adtea attacking them?” @SpiritOfWrath @Through The Living Glass
-
Nick’s expression clouds a bit upon realizing quite how much power this First has. Of course, maybe it was a better situation than that of the IISC. SIMON picks that exact moment to tell Nick Tenth’s xenosuit is ready. “Alright, your suit is ready.” Nick tears a strip of biofabric off his own suit and hands it to Tenth. “This will need to grow; I think we should gather some biomass before go. I’ll need to make you a computer to run it - right now we can patch SIMON onto the helmet.”
-
Nick is still wondering about what the Giants found on the other planets, and why they decided to conquer them.

Alvar notes all the talking and looks down at the man he killed, slightly ruefully. His blood pulls out of his body and reinforces the blade as Alvar walks over to the bandit leader. He leans casually against a tree. “Interesting… quite a strange business model you’ve got there. I could try to kill you, but I’d be out of a job. How much would a recruit get?”
-
The object is moving several times the speed a human could run. It is a sort of wagon-like box, rolling of bendy spokes around wheels. There’s two figures in the front, both shrouded in black fabric. They turn around in alarm as Adtae cuts through one support for the roof, which seems to be made of a similar canvas. They speed up as it drapes over them.
-
Cole smiles. “Freedom? He said that was better. He told me lots of things. Why do you want to know?”

“Why would I lie to you if I was? Actually, if I was, there’s probably many reasons I would lie to you. If I wasn’t, I don’t know why I would lie, but I bet I could come up with something.”

Apparently Nick’s world invented a warp drive and made contact with several species of intelligent aliens, forming the Interstellar Intelligent Species Council, or IISC. Supposedly microbes are moderately common, on around 1 in ten potentially habitable planets, but then few of those microbes evolve further, and few of those further-evolved lifeforms actually end up continuing to evolve instead of stagnating, and few non-stagnating biospheres have intelligent species, and few - one in 13 - intelligent species develop interstellar travel. So the fact that Tenth’s solar system has another planet with complex, sapient life is huge; even with different Goldilocks zones for different biochemistries, only two known intelligent species shared a system, and those two were on a single planet.

Cole is legitimately confused. “Who is that? The Duke?”

@Through The Living Glass @Spark of Hope @SpiritOfWrath The moving object suddenly pivots, moving directly towards you. It’s still far away, but it’s a relative compact shape moving slightly up and down as it speeds in your direction. Rust expands in alarm. “What is that? It is alive, but strange.”
-
Once Nick is done with Aki’s interview, he starts on Tenth’s. And, like with Aki, he wants to know all about your magic, technology, and contact with other planets.
-
Cole shrugs. “I’m not even sure. I’m just here, honestly. I came with the other people there.” He thinks for a second. “Does the Duke need any carpentry done?”

It’s quite far away, and the rusty haze makes it difficult to make out. But something is moving closer to you at an angle. Rust’s vision doesn’t reach that far, so they continue eating a third blade-plant.
-
Nick finishes the interview, but then he wants to hear EVERYTHING. He’s not prying too much, but anything Aki will tell him is dissected and mixed together as he searches for synergies.
-
Alvar quickly awakens, freezing himself a sword and shield before even getting up. He hears a scream. I hope I don’t have to cut my losses. This would have been a good job. Alvar smoothly rolls to his feet and behind a tree, assessing the situation. His water is dangerously low from practicing; he’d have to resort to blood. Even if his companions can’t pick people off one at a time, he maybe can - he quickly finds the bandit furthest from the others and, moving with smooth, lethal speed, closes the gap and attempts a killing sweep with his serrated sword.
