  1. “Some strange people - some of them were humans and some were not - came from the sky one day. That is why they are called sky people. We are going to meet them.” Some of Rust’s node fall into a hole they didn’t notice, and they stop to fish them out. “The sky people look for more people around things called stars. I cannot see them, but they say they prevent the Spoiling from happening everywhere.”
  2. Rust “walks” through the landscape, seeming to scramble and slip on the ordinary ground. They try to make some small talk. “Are there sky people here too? They come from the sky in me-alive devices and wear you-alive clothes.”
  3. @SpiritOfWrath, do you have a description for us as we head back?
  4. Alvar walks back to his starting point, and waits for the signal. He gets closer, this time; dodging more in tune with how fast Lusha can fire. Acknowledging the loss with a nod, he checks how much water he has left. “Do we have a map? I want to try something, but I’m afraid I’ll run out of water before the end of the trip.”
  5. Cole follows also. “Yes, it was very strange. None of those people were willing to listen to me.”
  6. Nick takes the glasses and pistol, leaving the rifle. SIMON, knowing Nick would want it done, immediately tries to determine whether the AI is transmitting any information. Then Nick freezes. “Wait… if this is a computer age society, is there internet?” “Yes and yes. The xenosuit seed will be another fifteen minutes, though it will take longer than that to grow into a full suit.”
  7. Nick sighs. "The people who brought us here want us to die for their amusement. Do you want to stop them?"
  8. “Ok. We will go back and look for the sky people now.” Rust walks back southward, towards the portal the Idea made. @SpiritOfWrath @Through The Living Glass
  9. “That makes sense; it was the way we felt with the sky people. When we go back, do you want to meet them?”
  10. @TheRavenHasLanded
  11. “No, I thought you might. But humans do not talk the same as Ferrians, and neither do birds.”
  12. Nick mumbles “Thanks Meryyn, good to know. Do we have a time goal? I could use an hour to get Tenth a xenosuit and embezzle some water to make hydrogen from.” under his breath, hoping he can hear it.
  13. Alvar darts from tree to tree, getting closer while moving erratically to make himself harder to aim at. As he gets closer, so do the arrows. At around twenty feet, he is too slow to dodge and takes an arrow in the side. “And that is why I need practice.”
  14. Nick sighs. “Shh. The people who are responsible for the teleportation are in this city, somewhere. They’re pulling random people from other universes for a dangerous game show. Someone hacked the teleporter and put us here so we can try to stop it. You don’t have to help us if you don’t want to, but if we fail you’ll probably be sent along with us. I made the producers mad and they put me in a volcano; this could be much worse.” He pauses. “I’m Nick, by the way. It is honestly nice to meet you - most of the places we’ve been sent so far are quite lonely.”
  15. Veer puts a hand on his shoulder (not the metal hand - he’s still not risking that). “You feel bad about it, and that makes you a good person. Even if you know it was probably the right thing to do, and he would keep hurting people if you didn’t, you still feel bad. That’s good. Stay that way, if you can.” Veer catches Eclair with magic, as though she bounced off an invisible surface before she hit the ground.
  16. “Yes, connecting nodes is how I talk to normal people better. And how parts of me talks to other parts of me. I do not think humans can talk that way, but birds might.”
  17. SIMON begins to give advice and update guesses as to the results in real time. Go over and see if you can distract the woman with the dog. Ask her what she thinks of the latest episode. Maybe pretend to be from out of town; ask for directions to the game show studio. Say we’re doing the cosplay for a couple reasons; we want the show back on the air but in a more humane way, with volunteers and maybe less violence and more simple exploration. A slice of life sort of thing. Make a self-deprecating joke about how we’re poorly organized, and a couple of us are just here to dress up, and note that the acting of pretending not to be acting is confusing you.
  18. Veer nods. He knows what that feels like. “I don’t know how much I can do. But I’ll try. You’re a good person, Tim. Those are rarer than they should be, sometimes.”
  19. Rust pulls the tendril back. @Spark of Hope “Kal, can the bird talk to you like that?”
  20. Nick explains his plan through it. “We need to pretend we’re pretending to be us but are actually people who belong here, because who knows what they’d do to us. SIMON can give you lines if you need help.” Nick speaks more slowly with the most obvious verbal winking he can muster. He’s not sure if sarcasm was a thing at whatever time period that outfit indicated, but hopefully the message would get across. “It’d be such a strange coincidence if you also happened to end up here for the same reason my friends and I did. But if you somehow were teleported here, we’d be able to give you answers. It’d be really suspicious if we told you that outright though, so theoretically we’d have to use excessive sarcasm to make our points.”
  21. “That makes sense, I suppose. There are some groups in the Lawless that work like that. I can help unify the bandits behind you; I don’t think your devices can harm me. Of course, I’ll need to ensure you and your new lieutenants actually put a stop to things like cutting off people’s fingers.”
  22. The strange creature moves over and reaches out a tendril for the bird to stand on. Maybe it talks in a normal way…
  23. Nick is startled by the new person; somehow he hadn’t noticed her. Any description I should know? Nick has an excessive number of futuristic firearms and grenades, and is wearing a brightly colored bodysuit with what look like some sort of wings attached to them. That would change my first impression, at least. “The station, you say?” asks Nick, continuing his acting voice. “Would you know where that is? I have reality-TV-where-people-from-different-worlds-are-teleported-around-for-the-amusement-of-others related things to get to. You can’t possibly be an additional person the teleporter picked up, can you? Because you know exactly where you are and how you go there, right? So we’re not your only possibility to figure out what’s going on and how to get home. Too bad, though, if that was the case I’d be happy to help.”
