  1. Kion looks at the desert, searching for landmarks. “That was a rhetorical you, referring to a typical mage in a hypothetical scenario. But Bacon actually asked me if he should make himself a Render. I’m not sure why.”
  2. The Intellectual tries to retaliate, but is bad at close combat. Cole grabs the man, dragging him up into the air. “Alright, unless you want him to die, you’re going to let me do something… I don’t remember what I wanted. What do you think I should ask for?”
  3. “I’m aware I was being an idiot; I’ll think twice about using any sort of emotion magic even if I can spare it.” Kion hurriedly steps through the portal. “This is how mages last as long as we do. Usually, though, whoever does the teleportation strengthens their own Render, so you can’t run forever.” This is bold, so I’ll assume this is canon, if a bit god-mod-y. The Render is cut in half by the powerful sword, as the components that make up its body are scattered to the winds. It looks defeated, but where a single grain of sand lands, the ground springs up and reforms it, back as a gorilla-shaped rocky powerhouse. “You are in my way. Begone, and leave your blade, or you will die.”
  4. “I believe this was staged by the company itself. Are you aware of their game show? They effectively kidnapped people - including me - from other dimensions to go through dangerous situations. Some of us are from worlds where violence to solve problems is ordinary, which makes the people who kidnapped us in the first place worried. When we unionized and managed to get here instead of the intended destination, I believe the CEO panicked and staged the explosion to tighten security. The person who was able to get us out in the first place agrees. I’d be happy to gain access to and bring forth his evidence, but I believe he wishes to remain anonymous.” Nick purses his lips. “I’d be happy to go into custody until the trial if you deem me a criminal. I would have to retain several objects of exotic technology in order to keep me alive after I was dropped into a volcano, and others to protect me if I am brought back into the game show against my will, but I would not resist. I do not speak for the others, however; they come from varying governmental states and societies, and run the gamut between obeying their authority without question, and wishing to overthrow their own government.”
  5. Alvar shakes his hand. “Pleasure doing business with you.” In the chaos that followed your alchemical concoction, Alvar is nowhere to be seen. In truth, he stayed back with the bandits to keep his options open. He doesn’t know you all very well, after all.
  6. “I’m aware. Who should I talk to if I think I know who’s responsible?”
  7. Kion finally figures out he’s brainwashed himself. “Cancelation.” Earlier, the spell drops and his eyes go very very wide. “What have I done? I’ve never messed around with emotions before; with the spell, I didn’t want to stop celebrating. And now I’ve made my Render so much stronger…” Right on cue, the Render crests the horizon, a massive shape quickly gliding towards them. “We have to get out of here before it reaches me! Sequence stopped it, but that was in the heart of their world. And my magic will do nothing.” Alright, I need to sleep. Good night.
  8. Cole drops from the sky and tries to land on an Intellectual.
  9. “Oh, just that I make a monster called a Render that always knows where I am and wants to kill me stronger with every spell I cast. But that’s not important right now, I should be celebrating!” The Render keeps getting closer, leaping through plains now.
  10. Cole keeps hovering in a stable power loop, feeling much better now that he’s stopped exerting himself.
  11. “Alright then. We go talk to them, and if it goes bad, you can get us out of there.” @The Stormfather, Nick approaches a riot police that doesn’t seem to be doing much.
  12. The biologist looks at you strangely. “Still think you’re crazy, but thanks?” You drive across the bridge and continue on your way, unless Adtae is feeling vengeful and disappears it midway through.
  13. Cole vibrates the air and causes a loud music note ring out. “Wait… I think I need much smaller vibration than that.” He tries again, making heat, although by this point his clothes are stained with blood.
  14. “Hopefully. If so, we can try doing this through legal channels. Of course, all they’d have to do is postpone the trial until after they fix the Time Machine.”
  15. Cole pushes together a lot of air, hoping that he can starve out the Intellectuals without running out of energy himself.
  16. Nick sighs. “Well, there goes my plan. I’d bet - actually, I’m not sure what I’d bet, but that’s not important - that those medieval-y things are magic and from another universe, so the police would be supplied, and thus controlled, by Telecorp or whatever. At least that means they’re not squandering their invention; maybe society is benefiting after all.”
  17. Kion smiles. “Good idea! Dancing either her was great!” Suddenly: Kion smiles even more broadly. “Yay, you’re here! As for your question, I have no idea! Earlier we were celebrating a certain number of pages, but when I tried Narrating, it’d been far past that.” He looks around at the pavilion he’s conjured. “It’d be a shame to let this go to waste, though. Magic has consequences for me, after all. But we can worry about that later.” The Render continues glide-leaping across the Thread, the powers that be (read: Murphy’s law) preventing it from reaching Kion quite yet.
  18. The car is going over 100 miles per hour, so you don’t get very long to see any particular features. There’s a chain of mountains in the distance for a while, and closer up dunes can be seen, grey on one side and rusty on the other. More blade-plants scatter the landscape, although not nearly as many as the strange thicket. And after around a half hour, a small ravine comes into view, straight in your path.
  19. Cole simply prepares to blow it off course; the amount of pressure he’s creating would likely cause a significant blast of air if released. And he isn’t even sweating too much blood; the wind is pointed at him and thus replenishes his power.
  20. The human biologist is driving, and he attempts to passive-aggressively hit every ridge, bump, and hole he can find. Unfortunately, he’s foiled by the vehicle’s impressive suspension. The car is fast, too. Distances that would take hours to walk snap by in minutes as they head for their destination.
  21. Kion looks at the knife. “There’s no time to worry about that! We need to be celebrating! I need people to celebrate with. Do you like celebrating?” The distant bit of him not influenced by the spell keeps panicking. Why did I think this was a good idea? The Render rearranges itself, putting most of its volume into wings. It sheds heavy material and picks up lighter substance from the ground. Soon, each jump sends it dozens of feet forward, getting faster every time.
  22. Kion huffs. “Fine! I’ll make a new party, then.” The small part of him not gripped by the magical compulsion to celebrate panics quietly as he declares. “Invitation! Creation! Construction! Preparation! Celebration!” which is more magic than he risks most days, let alone in the span of a few seconds. Due to his words, though before he says them, invitations go out to those who would wish to party, raw wood and stone appears from thin air, it assembles itself into a dance floor, decorations and food appear, and the whole area is shrouded in a magical compulsion to celebrate. The Render is truly shocked as the power hits it, making it stronger, faster, nimbler, and smarter. It tears rocks from the ground, forming wings of floating debris and scraping its components together to sharpen them. It tries to fly, but only accomplishes a sort of gliding run as it charges towards Kion’s location.
  23. Kion falls over, no longer supported by his dancing partner. “Hey! I’m supposed to be celebrating! Bring me back!” he yells angrily at nothing, still in the grip of his spell. The Render perks up. There is the mage. It is far away, but I can hunt.
