The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“Interesting. I’ll be on the lookout, I suppose. I for one think we should get going. This place is eerie.” The Render continues building walls, towers, troughs, patterns, and other structures from grass, rocks and dirt, wandering around the endless field. Perhaps something would notice… Rebus, slightly annoyed that the Subversion-soulsplinter rescuing operation fully ignored him, quickly recovers and looks for something new to do. On his own, at least for now; his Author seemed busy, so he didn’t seek out someone to interact with…- 111861 replies

Kion is intrigued. “Plot … blade?” A small metal object falls out of the sky. Force fields quickly emanate from it, pushing air outwards with a whoosh and then Rebus, clad in a grey and black longcoat (TV troupes has a whole thing about it, after all) with bright orange trim and matching practical-ish other clothes, suddenly stands inside the fields. “I dare say I would be of use here! As long as nano-tech continues working, at least. I think I may need to talk to Onyx, anyway, but if that doesn’t occupy my attention I could use some realming lessons as well.”- 111861 replies

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Kion is disappointed yet relieved that there isn’t an easy way for an ordinary person to defeat a Narrator, but also there doesn’t seem to be an even more powerful group of magic users running around. (He’s part wrong on the both counts, but at least he won’t run into anyone who would make those things relevant) He’s also noticed a Plot Hole, but decides not to point it out in the hopes that said god-complex possessing Narrator cannot appear. “Still, fighting then escaping a being that can read minds and do whatever they want is an impressive feat. If I didn’t have to worry about my Render I would be nigh-unstoppable, and apparently Narrators are an order of magnitude beyond that - although there seem to be rules they follow.”- 111861 replies

“Of course that’s what Narrators go around doing.” Kion mumbles angrily. Then he processes the implications of the statement. “Wait. You fought a Narrator and won? My Render almost brought one to a standstill, but when I told Sequence what could imprison it, it took a heartbeat for it to be trapped. Somehow it convinced Sequence to let it out, though, which does not bode well.” The Render, stuck in an endless field with no direction to reach Kion, begins to dig, stacking rocks in patterns and packing dirt into walls and ramps. It doesn’t have a real goal, but it feels right.- 111861 replies

There don’t seem to be threats, unless you count the far away “sky people” vehicles. The whole place is less busy than it seems a structure this size would indicate.

Cole sighs, trying to think of a new person to talk to. Gathering the armor, he brings it back through the tunnel to use as proof of the Duke’s “death”.

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“It will eventually kill me if nothing else does, but not today, I think. As for it getting here, I don’t know. It depends upon what is supposed to happen to get here - I’m not sure how it behaves if I’m in a physically inaccessible place.” The Render tries to use its magical tie to Kion to figure out where he is. The hologram projector turns back down to a reasonable brightness, and displays, “You’re a lot more fun than Bacon. I think my Author knows you, or has at least interacted with you however Authors do. Anyway, I was thinking we could leave some various magical and technological devices for people to find and misuse, like an adjustably insulated, shaded, and contained portal to a star.”- 111861 replies

The biologist sighs in relief, misunderstanding the explanation. “I’ll only have to put up with you three - four - no, three now for another ten or fifteen minutes. We’re almost there.”

Kion bristles, then realizes Perseus has no way to knowing the consequences of magic - other than potentially hearing his brief explanation to Moniker. “I will do as you ask, but I will only use magic if it is necessary - spells hasten my death and perhaps that of those around me. Thus, I had hoped for a spell with the highest impact for the least magic.”- 111861 replies

The biologist considers trying to get it off, but can’t think of anything that could work. There is nervousness in the biologist’s voice. “Pyre is a poetic name, for the red feathers, correct? Because this entire vehicle may go up in flames.”

Kion thinks for a second. “So profanetion? That’s not a word - let’s see… desecration, perhaps? Although I cannot think of anything anyone would want to do with such a focus. The reverse, consecration, may have an effect if demons are effected by religion…”- 111861 replies

Kion stares at the landscape, having never seen anything like it. “I’ll be on alert; if something attacks I can kill or stop it before it does. Other than the standard focuses - teleportation, obstruction, protection, construction, and the like - are there any sorts of words that would work well here?” "His Render?" Moni inspected Faunus quizzically. "Also, I haven't heard of any Narrators called Faunus. Are you new?" Kion sticks out his hand to shake. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance, even in such a strange place. I am a mage, which means - at least where I am from - that a collection of magic called a Render is strengthened by the spells I cast and attempts to kill me.” He isn’t sure what an Avatar is, but decides the answer is likely not important to the present moment.- 111861 replies

The biologist almost says something, but then Adtae disappears. “Regardless, do you know how the shadow man is doing that? And can you get this bird off my face!” The structure is a massive tube that slowly ramps up to the sky. It’s seemingly made from similar materials to the suit the two “sky people” were wearing, and their self-propelled wagon. The pillars holding it up are made of the same material, and are in triangular groups, crossed by supports made from the same material. At the point the Runway reaches the ground, a large circular structure can be seen. You can still see the car, barely, which implies that they’re close. And actually, there are a few similar cars around, leaving the round building in different directions.

Cole doesn’t want to be attacked underground, so he tries to reach out with his power and figure out where the air around him is and what it’s doing. He’d been telling air to move, earlier, which would be hard to do if he didn’t know where it was.

The Longest Thread (Misadventures)
DragonHeir replied to ElephantEarwax's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
“I’m here because it’s of better use than running away continuously, and as Faunus said, I didn’t want to create people in crisis so I could do something good. Where exactly are we?” “It felt like what you meant. You Narrated something for me, and then was offended when I thought about using it for something useful.” You never know with TLT… but ok. The Render picks up dirt and rocks from the ground, and scrapes the rocks together as it walks, sharpening them. It probably wouldn’t help much, for its telekinesis was destructive on its own, and the Narrator was still protecting the mage. “Very well. If you don’t have a better idea, I’m off to cause trouble.” Rebus is surrounded in force field lines for a second, then disappears. “Does anyone need any trouble caused?” he asks the various Thread-aware beings who could notice.- 111861 replies

Kion sighs again. “I’m sure she could, but unless you were standing on train tracks, you would be fine. I’m Kion, by the way.” Rebus’s hologram projector projects “got it!” as brightly as it can at the Scribe’s important papers, potentially doing just that. Then, Rebus and everyone else associated with his Author stop existing temporarily as I go to sleep. Good night.- 111861 replies

“Well, what should I trade for your tricks?” Rebus waves a hand, stabbing the monster he’d almost forgotten about with a spear of utility fog wrapped around some self replicating machines. They chew through it, then are teleported away to be called back later. Kion still appears resigned, and is perhaps less personal than he was previously. “I understand. I’ll remember magic means nothing to a Narrator, and they expect it continue to mean nothing to others. And apparently letting loose a relentless hunter means as little as capturing one. I’m surprised that the Render even could say it would behave.” The Render, lacking a body and wherever nowhere is, picks up some nothing from nowhere without making it something from somewhere. It would be make it harder to do that to it again, it thought. Then, it began to fly over the nowhere, for nowhere weighs nothing. Kion, a young man wearing practical if not quite modern clothes well suited for hiking, looks towards the front of the train in alarm, then looks at the infernal landscape in much more alarm. Kion sighs, having hoped that just maybe he’d stop being overshadowed. “That would be Faunus. My name is Kion. Who might you be?” Rebus decides to take a page - no pun intended - from the Scribe’s book and makes a small, floating object teleport into the room (the Scribe’s room). It projects a hologram, which says, “Good work by the way. B A C, O N T, H E T A X. Unfortunately, that only works with the Mikey Mouse theme if you squint at it hard. Anyway, I’m bored, any ideas?” Rebus makes a similar hologram projector by [your character, whose name I think is Asher]. “Of course not! Read the thread tags! But a Narrator or similar character would have to explain such things to you, and someone like the Scribe might feel a need to prevent their characters from hearing about it. For instance, you can pretend this never happened.”- 111861 replies
