  3. "Hey! I can feel empathy towards other entities!" Elan says. "I... don't like extraction. That sounds like getting a shot. But worse."
  4. The Gambler nods, switching out the chips. He flips over his hand, which is a butcher.
  5. "Deal." The Gambler places down chips for each thing bet, and picks up his hand. The game moves quickly, and finally they reach the place where bets would normally be placed. "Anything you want to change?" He says.

  9. The Gambler just smiled. "I like you." He said. He laid down his hand, three axehounds and three skyeels, a Queen. "We can't very well make a deal with me already knowing your cards, can we?" "Now, you want food and metalminds" He pulls out a few chips. Some have the chromium feruchemical symbol, others have a simple drawing of general foodstuffs. "Each chip is ten minutes of feruchemical charge or a meals worth of food, respectively." He explained. "You win, you get whatever you chose for me to put in. If I win, it's ten minutes of poor fortune for each chip I put in. Deal?"
  10. The Gambler didn't even glance at his own hand. There was something in his eyes that made Jaksyn think maybe The Gambler knew he had cheated. "This round? No, this is your practice. Next round, then we can place some real bets."
  11. "You got it man, I think you could make a great soldier. Even if you didn't have much of a choice." Elan says, stepping back into the cell and smiling.
  12. Elan flinches a little at the sound of throwing up. "Let's... let's keep going." He says, patting the soldier on the back and handing him a plastic bag like you would find on an airplane.
  13. "Eh. I like cards." The Gambler says. He takes a swig from his bottle as he moves a few cards around, getting rid of a couple and drawing.
  14. The Gambler deals both of them a hand of lacquered cards, which appear to be of Herdazian make. "Breakneck. A simple game, really." He says.
  15. Elan nods. "You good? I think I have a bag here... somewhere... If you need it."
  16. "If you guess wrong? Well then, your abilities are completely taken away for the entirety of the next Scadrian change. I'm sure you'll survive."
  17. “How about a bet then.” The Gambler says, “You tell me which tribute will die next. If you’re right, you get what you need.”
  18. “Breakneck, Kabers, Michim, any Rosharan gambling game. those are the ones we have now, before The Change.”
  19. “Whaddaya want.” The man rasps. “Metalminds? Food?” “Come on, play a game!”
