Aubrey inhales sharply, then exhales. "I don't know. I only met them once. Mother just wanted them." Aubrey stares into space in the direction that her mother was angrily, then sighs. "Could we just-talk about something else? Please?"

"Just some people Mother hired. They don't matter." Aubrey's expression darkens slightly, and then lightens once more.

"I'd like to take a break. Rest for a bit. My doctors say that maybe I should."

"It was my pleasure." Aubrey smiles, and though her eyes betray a sadness deeper than her words, she seems genuinely happy.

"I have a stick," Autumn announces, "with a ball on the end."

“It probably is.” Aubrey wipes her eyes one more time, and though they now seem to be dry. “Thank you for…being here. It’s nice.” Whether or not you love him. We’ll work that out later.

“That’s fair, I guess.” Still not his business. He should be staying out of the affairs of his…customers? Not customers, this is a library. What to call people like me, though? Regardless, I perhaps should wait longer until pressing him on his stance. “Do you have any books on,” his voice dropped to a whisper, “Hemalurgy?”

“Perhaps I should. How long have you been here, anyway?”

Aubrey nods. “Sorry I ruined our lesson….”

Corbeau keeps smiling. “With the right connections, it is not too difficult to find such a place.” That’s not a lie! Not a lie!

“Maybe it’s a clock. Do you have any clocks? Watches?”

Punchy Bob comes into existence near and far from all, sits down, and sobs.

Aubrey wipes her face and sits up. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be so distraught…it’s been quite a while since he passed.”

Autumn sighs and recites the riddles to themself. “The last has already been said…perhaps it is the tales? Or simply the time being up?” Autumn looks at the stick with a ball on the end disdainfully.

“Yes. I was so thrilled when I heard that I would train under him…I did for three years. Three years and then it was all…he was….” Tears come out of Aubrey’s eyes as she sits down and quietly sobs.

“Could you tell me about this Yzelari, please?” Autumn asks.

Corbeau continues to smile. “Intelligence. A good trait. But I must know, friend, if I can trust you. For you see friend, I am trying to track down the criminals at the inn that night, especially The Inquisitor. If you know anything about them…anything at all…I would like very much to listen. But ultimately, there are to sides and it will be so much simpler to pick one. Do you aid those guilty of breaking laws? Or do you help bring them to justice?” I hope he doesn’t press me about finding this place. It will help my reputation not to share that.
