  1. Wait is this confirmed? She certainly likes looking human, unless that's just to make the Rosharans less uncomfortable in her presence.
  2. Here's the exact quote (WoW Ch. 62): I think this is actually making a good point. Whom does the general populace have a positive opinion of? Martin Luther King Junior, or Malcolm X? Angry yelling, even when justified, is easy to dismiss as the ravings of a lunatic. Heck, now that I think about it, I need to try to incorporate that into my own advocacy. I could certainly stand to emulate MLK better. I'm probably too easy to pass off as a whiny slontze.
  3. As others have said, he expected (most of) his empire to be loyal subjects who didn't deserve to die just because Ruin wanted him out of the way. I like this hypothesis too. To add something no one else seems to have mentioned though (can't remember if this is a spoiler, so to be safe): And it's also possible he just wasn't as vengeful as you might think based on The Final Empire alone. Even if all humanity was complicit in his downfall, he might have wanted them to live. Or at the very least, he knew most people would not participate. In any case, I certainly wouldn't want the whole human race to go extinct just because I failed to stop a powerful madman (which is a fair category to include Ati in at that point). But the long and short of it is he had time and money to prepare with, he knew there was a threat of extinction, and there was basically no reason not to build the caverns.
  4. House was definitely one of the harder ones. Knowing what my ideal is, I think "Huge Mansion" is probably the most accurate, but I also was really into van life videos for a while and would still like to have a livable van...if only while I build my mansion to my own specifications, cause no one else seems to have put as much thought into making a house both sustainable and fun for someone like me. Sustainable yes, search Earthships on YouTube, and I guess in Arizona as much open land as there is they don't need an indoor shooting range, but still... 1st result: Smoker. Probably accurate to how I actually am in the real world; emotionally stable, hard to disrupt, thorough understanding of the concept of Operational Security (more than the Feds seem to have sometimes lol). Most common result: Rioter (3x). Huh? I guess I do try to point out what sucks about the system... Other results: Soother. I am a decent peacekeeper. Nicroburst. OK? Slider. Would be great, if I could afford Bendalloy. What I really wanted was Coinshot, since I really like flying and firearms, but oh well. Also, in case it's interesting to you, here's the results I got from the quotetv quiz:
  5. That hadn't occurred to me, but it makes sense. Tanavast might have been almost as bad as Preservation about not wanting people to change (their minds).
  6. Those might be my favorites (apart from F-Tin of course). Especially Brass. I'm always cold, but love playing with fire. I wonder if you really could like stand in a fire while filling your brassmind without getting burnt? It seems like it should be possible, but it might be too localized or faster than you can store. If it does work that way, it might be perfect for me. I also have a lot of trouble sleeping, so being able to immediately get to sleep by filling a bronzemind would be great. And my eating habits are so irregular a Scadrian might already think I have F-Bendalloy lol, it would be great to like go to an all-you-can-eat buffet (which they probably don't have on Scadrial, considering) and just store like a month's worth of calories and not have to worry about it again for a while. Speaking of which, I'm hungry now, I should probably take care of that lol.
  7. I think what's going on here is largely that the Set sees hemalurgy as a tool, not a way of fundamentally changing yourself. Between Ruin's pressure and the way people perceived Inquisitors, Marsh is no longer just Marsh the Seeker, Kelsier's brother. He is the Inquisitor once known as Marsh, Ruin's puppet. This Identity had overwritten his original Identity almost completely by the end of HoA, as we see by him referring to the Inquisitors as his brethren, among other things. Even in Era 2, his Identity is Death, the personification of Ruin, though his will as Marsh has more influence now Ruin's Vessel isn't crushing it. That direct Connection to Ruin is a central part of his Identity, along with the fact that he is a creation of Hemalurgy on the same level as a Koloss. That's why Hemalurgy works to its fullest with him. Edit: just came across a quote from TLM that helps corroborate this (Chapter 28, bold is my emphasis): In contrast, members of the Set don't really embrace their Identity as products of Hemalurgy. They strongly retain their original Identity, which conflicts with the Identity of whoever they stole the powers of with their spikes. It's like trying to become Radiant without embracing the Ideals. The human and spren must merge to some degree, such that the Identity of Windrunner Kaladin Stormblessed is distinct from Kaladin the spearman. That, plus the fact that they tend to swap spikes (IIRC) keeps them from having quite as many benefits. Their Identities never adapt such that, say, Mister Suit begins to see himself as Coinshot Edwarn Ladrian. Of course, this is all just my interpretation of what "Identity contamination" means as an obstacle to full Hemalurgic power. I could be completely off base.
  8. I think it's implied that Breeze is a savant (and Allrianne might be too, but it doesn't seem like it as much). So yes, subtlety and strength, including greater numbers of people. And also yes, extraordinarily manipulative and a bit numb themselves. The scene in HoA where he chats with Clubs certainly makes it seem like the way he burns brass puts him in a bit of an obsessive, hyper-focused state that it's a relief to let go of, though that might just be him.
  9. Definitely another good choice. Have you read Shadow of the Conqueror by Shad Brooks (of Shadiversity)? Minor spoilers: That book has made me appreciate F-Zinc more than I used to. That is my impression as well.
  10. First off, just to clarify, when you say "Feruchemantic" does that just mean "of Feruchemy" (what I've been using "Feruchemical" for) or both Feruchemical and Allomantic? Having read your other posts, you've convinced me that F-Tin is the most versatile kind of Ferring to be. Were I a worldhopper with a choice I might choose F-Duralumin, but on the other hand, learning new languages the hard way can be kind of fun. Allomantically, my preference would be steel, I think. A quiz I took the other day said I'd be a Coppercloud, but that's likely because I'm already pretty stable emotionally (resistant to Soothing and Rioting) and apply the concept of Operational Security (OpSec, as the Feds call it apparently, though they seem to suck at it often). In other words, I'm a lot like a Coppercloud already (though ironically not a smoker) so becoming one wouldn't offer me much. A-Pewter might be nice, and A-Tin for (reverse) compounding, but I really like flight and firearms. A-Steel is just really awesome. In that way I might be a better double for Ann from Tress of the Emerald Sea, especially given what's revealed later. But I just really related to Steris Harms more than any other character I'd read before, so I made her my PFP.
  11. I agree about Rhyshadium, and would go further. RoW Ch. 35 page 446: This, along with other mentions, makes me think
  12. A draw/Dalinar refusing to kill Odium's champion is almost definitely what Odium will try to arrange. I'm not sure he'll manage to recruit someone Dalinar would be that reluctant to kill though. In fact, it might turn out like the attempted recruitment of Kaladin in the plot to kill Elhokar; agreement, then recalcitrance foiling the plan. I could see Adolin, for instance, being converted in a fit of passion, but during the actual duel having a change of heart and basically committing suicide. There's an established theme of Taravangian (and Odium) almost recruiting people away from Dalinar and failing: Kaladin (as mentioned before, and kind of mirrored after the duel with Lezian), the council of monarchs right before the battle of Thaylen City, Dalinar himself... I'm not confident in that interpretation of the Death Rattles. I think they might be a prediction of Odium's victory, but they might be as wrong as Renarin's vision of Dalinar becoming Odium's champion in Thaylen City (especially since they're older prophecies). Also, just to clarify, you do mean Elhokar's son Gavinor, right? Not old King Gavilar resurrected somehow? You said Gavilor twice, so I'm not sure. The editor seems a bit iffy when moving between pages, so I'll post this and then read the other four pages on this topic and edit as necessary.
  13. Moash seemed most likely to me too-until he went blind and Taravangian replaced Rayse. El is presumably very similar in personality and purpose, given that his title was given to Moash. He's important enough that he wrote the epigraphs for a whole Part, and not just any Part, but the last Part before the book that concludes Cycle One. He's who tests anti-Voidlight on Lezian. Maybe I'm wrong and the way he's looking forward to "serving you, newest Odium" is only as a leader of troops, as he says he would "march proudly at the head of a human legion." But he seems like the best candidate (of those who are definitely on Odium's side) to me. Edit: just realized you might have meant better candidates than Moash when I first read it as better candidates for Honor's champion than Dalinar himself. Which candidates for each side do you think are best? Whom did I miss?
  14. The implication I got was more that they're just really twisted Fused. Kind of like how Shallan got the impression that Re-Shephir (the Midnight Mother) had once been human. From what we've seen of his powers, I don't think that's how it works. He can see visions himself that no one else can see, or he can create illusions everyone can see. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Kaladin could also see the gold shadow thing of Moash, right?) Thunderclasts don't have eyes in their chest cavity or anything. I like that hypothesis. It's also possible Honor himself is who restricted them, much like Bondsmiths were restricted, and those restrictions weakened as he was already going crazy (dying?) at the time of the Recreance.
  15. I was not saying anything about foreshadowing an Odium victory. I was saying that the epigraphs indicated that the Fused named El, formerly known as Vyre before that title was given to Moash, expected to be Odium's champion. That's assuming the contest of champions happens at all and T-Odium doesn't manage to recruit someone that Dalinar will be hesitant to kill, like Adolin.
  16. The Lost Metal spoiler: I guess that doesn't guarantee she's talking about tin, though I don't know what other feruchemical metal would allow storage of pain. And it doesn't guarantee that it's separate from touch, since she doesn't say you can still feel touch. It seems like a pretty thorough confirmation though, especially with this WoB: WorldCon 76 - Arcanum (coppermind.net)
  17. Fair point. Maybe something about a Truthwatcher would let Renarin "heal" its spirit back to its singer shape, thus preventing it from forming a thunderclast body again? IDK, that seems like a stretch, but I don't see what else would frighten it.
  18. I'm pretty sure it's the compounding of Regrowth with Radiant base healing. I'm not sure if that's something every Edgedancer and Truthwatcher can do though or if it's just "Enlightened" Mistspren who grant that ability. My guess is they all can, not just Renarin.
  19. Pretty sure this is a case of accidental double-post. I had a bit of deja vu and thought "did my reply not post properly?" But no, here it is: There are legends that the "shades of the Lost Radiants" haunt the Highstorms, yes. It's unclear whether they actually left visible Cognitive Shadows, whether people at the time knew about Threnody, or it's just convergent evolution of mythology (as far as I can tell).
  20. You probably loaded the page right before I edited my post, then took about five minutes to reply, based on timestamps.
  21. Uh... That's what I was talking about (what I bolded). I assume what you're referencing is this, a few pages later? Glys said it would fear Renarin. I'm not sure if it knew he was a Truthwatcher, that his spren was Enlightened, or what. Maybe it thought he was a Lightweaver who was about to Soulcast it. My guess is that it had just taken too much of a beating already and saw that Renarin still had enough power to finish it off, so it might as well give up and "die" (as much as any Fused dies) now.
  22. I think that's a misunderstanding actually. WoR I-4: OB search of "Reshi" came up with Dawnshard: RoW: I guess I could've missed something? Doesn't seem like it though. Edit: yes I did. See Dawnshard spoiler.
