Kalladin wood weapon against a Sharplate or Clasmfiend ?
Windrunner replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there were more than a thousand Radiants. Everyone seems to assume that these two hundred are equal numbers Windrunners and Stonewards, which could be. But unless I'm mistaken, another hundred Windrunners fall out of the sky, which kind of puts the kibosh on the idea that there were a thousand Radiants. -
Nightblood is also something of an anomaly. He's a different type of BioChromatic entity than we usually see.

I'm not sure how many people knew about it, but not too long ago someone figured out the link to the beta version of Brandon's new site. I mentioned it too him during SpoCon, because I felt like he should know. Check it out now. Cracks me up every time. xD

Hmmm. One of our old podcasts gives some basics here. I can summarize the big stuff for you, and you can ask more specific questions if you want. In the cosmere, way long ago, this "thing" known as Adonalsium was Shattered into sixteen god-like entities known as the Shards of Adonalsium, or Shards for short. These sixteen Shards were taken up by sixteen men and women. A man named Hoid was also present at the Shattering, but his role is unknown. These sixteen Shards went to various worlds throughout the cosmere, and in at least some cases created life there and fueled magic through the interaction between the Shards, the world, and the people. Hoid has been alive this whole time, jumping between worlds and working behind the scenes at some unknown goal. An organization of Worldhoppers, known as the Seventeenth Shard, is trying to stop whatever he is doing. Rayse, holder of the Shard Odium, wants to be the only Shard in the whole cosmere. He's killed and Splintered the Shards Devotion and Dominion on Sel (Elantris). He has also killed and Splintered Honor on Roshar. Hoid dislikes Rayse intensely. That's the main background, any more specific questions?

Is reading Alcatraz worth it?
Windrunner replied to DragonReborn's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm afraid that I'm one of those guys... (Except including his WoT stuff) I really would like to read Alcatraz, but they're tough to get ahold of. I'm waiting on those future ebooks that have been mentioned a few times. I don't really feel like shipping the omnibus from the UK either. -
Personally, I think it fits too perfectly for it to be anyone else but Kaladin. How someone could see from his perspective, I do not know.
-
Preservation, and Ruin as well, were also the only Shards whose holders was not killed by Odium, so far as we know. His goal is to make sure that there are no other beings at his power level. Splintering Shards is a taxing process for him, so it seems to me he wouldn't waste the energy if he didn't have to.
-
That's definitely an interesting idea, and it could be true. However, at least one death vision seems to be directly from the point of view of Kaladin. So, to me at least, it seems kind of unlikely.

Hey JazzMan, good to have you here! What specifically were you having trouble understanding?

We don't know that Shards Splinter when they have no holder. As far as I know, Brandon simply said that the people of Scadrial were lucky that Kel had taken the Shard, not what would happen if he hadn't.

The Recipient of the Letter is a Dragon!
Windrunner replied to GreyPilgrim's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah, Dragonsteel is off-limits for discussion on the forums. Personal message discussion is fine, but not on the main boards. Thanks! -
That's a fair point, which is why most if us think that it was something she subconsciously noticed that caused her to make a snap judgement that she didn't even know the reasons for. But the fact remains that Brandon said she is too observant for her own good, so there must have been some thing for her to "observe".

Okay, I certainly wouldn't say obviously a link. Brandon's had coincidences in names before. It certainly could be a connection, but we really can't say definitively. The fact of the matter is, eventually through sheer volume, some sounds are going to be reused at one point or another. For instance: Shash is a letter on Nalthis and a number on Roshar Kaladin's name bears a resemblance to Kalad, however there is no connection, Brandon liked the way Kaladin sounded like paladin. Rira is a nation on Roshar and the name of a crime lord on Nalthis These are just a few thrown out off the top of my head from a second of thought. Sure, there are probably some connections, but I don't think we can decide that they are definitively related. The forum Q&A has something to say that might interest you.

We have a bit of knowledge on how Odium and Rayse mesh.

Kalladin wood weapon against a Sharplate or Clasmfiend ?
Windrunner replied to Natans's topic in Stormlight Archive
See, I interpret it differently from you, more as being, "This type of fabrial is built in such a way so that a shield of this shape is the only thing it can enhance." Not that they can't create another more versitile fabrial, but that the one they've figured out right now cannot enhance the strength of another object. Another problem I see is that, if I were in control of Jah Keved, I would do everything in my power to prevent the knowledge of how to create a half-shard from becoming better known to the world at large. Then again, Jah Keved is in disarray, thanks to Szeth, so who knows? Still, I would be willing to bet that we will never see any other sort of weapon akin to a Shardblade created. -

I think it is a fair amount. -

I think the goal of getting his power back might want to be considered too. Odium's invested himself in Roshar now, unlike other worlds like Sel, so he won't leave without getting all that he's invested back. -
He didn't become Preservation though. I imagine that once the power faded his body returned (if it ever even vanished) much like Ati and Leras did when they died.

Mmmhmm, I know hoser. I was there for the Jasnah reading actually... I'm waiting for Eric to post the Lift Interlude, it'll be pretty soon, I've talked to him.
-
Meh, I'm pretty sure if we made a spike out of the One Ring it would work out okay.
-
It was actually rather excellent. Brandon can project his voice well, so no one had any trouble hearing him. The only downside was that Eric and Shardlet abandoned me for the front row, and I got to sit next to some bratty kids.
