  1. I tend to disagree there. Dominion seems more about asserting your will over someone else. Willingly volunteering seems more like Devotion to me. Perhaps only Dakhor monks are capable of being used as fuel.
  2. Unless you have a citation that says otherwise, that's not so. Alloy and Mistborn are about concurrent with the modern trilogy taking place 50 years after Alloy.
  3. I had always though that perhaps the intent of the Shard was much more rigidly enforced when you were simply holding the power of Preservation at the Well, rather than holding the Shard itself.
  4. I just wanted to let everyone know that Tachyon have started selling limited edition hardcovers of The Emperor's Soul. They're all signed, but there are only 1000 available for purchase. If how fast the more expensive copies of Legion sold out is any indication, you might want to get on with buying it if you're interested. It costs $25 plus whatever sort of shipping you want, and can be found right here on Tachyon's Emperor's Soul page. Also, hopefully the Hugo win last night means that we might see the unveiling of the deleted scene with Hoid at the beginning, like Peter suggested.
  5. Tonight, we have not one, but two amazing announcements. Not only did Writing Excuses win the Hugo for Best Related Work, but the Emperor's Soul won the Hugo in the category of Best Novella! Despite some problems with the livestream, it was an enjoyable ceremony, and Brandon's acceptance speech was typical Brandon, humble and gracious. I'll post a link to the video when it's uploaded. I'm sure everyone else who read Emperor's Soul knew he deserved it. Hearty congratulations to Brandon, the cast of Writing Excuses, and everyone else who won or was nominated for Hugo!
  6. Alternate theory, Hoid's secret dragon nature allows him to regrow limbs like his relative, the salamander.
  7. It doesn't seem problematic for me. In the beginning, Odium never settled anywhere. That's when he went to Sel and possibly other places. Now, he's gone to Roshar, invested some of his power there, possibly for reasons related to the Oathpact, and then left again to Braize, leaving a bit of his power behind that he hopes to reclaim.
  8. She's still alive. Llarimar probably hung out with her during that festival when Lightsong told him to go see his family. It honestly took a minute to remember that Tatara was her name. xD
  9. Your link's got some problems there Kurk. The link to the main page is here. Upvoted for the heads up. I'm a little confused by what you mean more to come. Are you referring to the video, or did you see an indication that's he's coming back to reddit?
  10. Nah, you're fine. We don't want to censor anyone at all. Although, barring some unforeseen circumstance, the rep system is not going anywhere. I would, however, like to speak to some of the points you've made. That's very kind of you to generous with your upvotes. However, everyone has their own policy on what is worth an upvote in their opinion, and there's nothing to do about that. We can't require someone to upvote a theory. Try to take the compliments for what they are, and not worry too much about rep. If you consistently post things that people like, it will come in its own time. If it's any consolation, you're well ahead of where I was. It took me about three months to get a single upvote. And in the end, it's just a number. Personally, I think having interesting and engaging discussions with people who have similar interests to me far more valuable than a little green number. And honestly, there's a correlation between how much you post and your rep. Hang around long enough and keep posting your awesome ideas and you'll be fine. Also, a bit of friendly advice. Even if you don't mention specifically what instance you are referring to, it's bad form to talk or complain about upvotes you feel you deserved. It certainly isn't going to engender any feelings of sympathy. This is a non-issue. Firstly, you seem like a reasonable enough guy, so you're probably not going to offend anyone so badly that they would do that to you. Secondly, the problem would be dealt with immediately. The Spikeocracy may be a dictatorship, but it's a benevolent dictatorship. As soon as we found out what had happened, there would be an investigation, followed by a return to your rep level and punishment to the person who had abused the system. We don't take this sort of abuse lightly. I'd also like to point out that this is practically unheard of. I know the members of 17th Shard, and as a group we're generally a fairly positive friendly community of level-headed adults. Give us the benefit of the doubt and trust us. I've been on the staff here for approximately two years (I honestly can't remember xD). I have only seen this happen maybe two times, and the problem was solved right away. This should not be a cause for concern. Hopefully this addresses your concerns and was somewhat helpful.
  11. Oh, don't worry too much about that. Those questions would be nice, but you don't have the audio that I was talking about. Eric and I got to ask Brandon some questions after you had left, (wish you could have made it!) and Eric has that stuff right now.
  12. Mmhmm. I'm not arguing that it wasn't shorter, but it was definitely a full length novel. In fact it's over twice as long as the minimum requirement to be considered a novel (By the Hugo awards that is). If you can hold on until after Stormlight 5, I'm sure that we'll see a return to full length Mistborn novels
  13. Good point, let me take care of that.
  14. That's a common problem with Sel's investitures though. Who taught the first Elantrians who built the city, before King Rhashm found Elantris? Those symbols are far from intuitive, especially in early era where maps were not so good. I think something must have given the Selish a hand.
  15. Alloy itself is not a novella, although it is shorter than the first trilogy. I'd imagine that Shadows of Self will be of a similar length. They are refresher side projects of Brandon's which tend to be less serious, more fun, and shorter.
  16. Question: If Hoid were tempted by a Shard, which one would it be? Brandon: Endowment Question: Are Nightwatcher and The Old Magic related? Brandon: The Nightwatcher is related to The Old Magic and is related to a Shard. Question: Which Shard? Brandon: RAFO Brandon: Odium's presence is felt on Roshar, but he is on Braize, the 3rd planet in the system. Question: Is that Shard on The Silence Divine? Brandon: Oh, you mean Ashyn. Ashyn is mostly barren with small fertile patches Brandon: There are two Shards on Roshar, however Honor is dead. Question: If a Shard ruled Talents (Alcatraz), what would the Shard be? Brandon: Betrayal, or inner self-contradiction, people contradicting themselves in some way. Here you go. The problem was probably that some of them aren't questions, but little factoids.
  17. Oh no, I tend to agree with you as well. I can't find the Cultivation aspect to it, whereas the other Shardpools we've seen can be argued to be following their Shard's intent.
  18. It's all good, there are a lot. Certainly more than I can keep track of xD
  19. Do you get to choose? I thought if you had stored at all in the metal you were burning, Compounding resulted no matter what.
  20. I didn't claim that it did, that was just in response to your statement that we'd only seen cognitively impaired Shards with Shardpools.
  21. I'm afraid you're actually incorrect. Odium may now be on Braize, but at some point in the past he invested himself in Roshar, and remains invested still. And I imagine that since Odium is still in the same system, leaving some power on Roshar is not such a big deal.
  22. I do have something to say on that topic. It involves a question that I asked Brandon at SpoCon that has not yet been posted on the forums because I'm not the one with the audio. I'll put it in spoiler tags, if you don't care to read it.
  23. Well that depends on what you mean by "at all". Brandon's confirmed that her Shardholder is still alive. But the again, Leras was technically alive as well.
  24. I think I know what all of those are, although I'm sworn to secrecy. A few of the negative rep levels might be known by other people who were around for certain, shall I say events? It is structured a bit differently now, due to that conversation we had about lamespren being too mean. Feel free to upvote me if you want to find out those higher levels (I'm totally kidding)
  25. You know you don't have to use spoiler tags anymore, right? Alloy's been out for nearly two years at this point. We lift any spoilers restrictions we might have imposed at six months.
