  1. The basic lashings do indeed affect clothes. Come to think of it, it would be rather inconvenient if Szeth's shirt slipped over his head every time he lashed himself to the ceiling. Not to tease, but I did pick up a copy of the Dangerous Women anthology that I found at Barnes & Noble and there is something in there that supports your theory here. I'll be sure to post the relevant quote tomorrow, but I probably should hold off for now... I'd totally espouse this theory. Although, it is intriguing about how an object is or isn't considered to be part of someone. What about objects that they identify strongly with? For instance, if Kaladin is holding a spear and is lashed to the ceiling, will the spear be a part of that or not?
  2. That Coppermind date is a guess. Mine actually, which someone stuck in the wiki. We have no confirmed dates for Emperor's Soul beyond that it is after Elantris.
  3. Welcome to the forums! You've got a lot of good questions, and I've got a few answers. I'm not going to provide quotes on everything, as that would take forever, but if you'd like to see the specific wording of something, feel free to ask and I'd be happy to help. I've always presumed that they're being tortured for the exact reason they quit, Odium hopes to wear them down enough so that they break the Oathpact. Personally, I think that they're returning to Braize, another planet in Roshar's system where Odium is currently located. I agree that they were ordinary people, there are mentions that they were set impossible tasks to accomplish on something known as "Proving Day". I imagine the took up the burden for the Shard Honor (the Almighty) to try to defend mankind. The Almighty was still alive when the Heralds quit. A slight correction, Honor said they were in trouble without the "Dawnshards," it's a fairly common misconception but Dawnblades aren't a real thing. I've no idea what the Dawnshards are, but I do think that the Honorblades were the weapons of the Heralds. Personally, I'm skeptical on the whole, "Szeth gets his powers from his sword theory," but I've been wrong before. This is the million dollar question, isn't it? They're still ageless from what I understand, although they may be able to die, I'm uncertain. It's almost certain that Baxil's Mistress, the one who destroys art is Shalash, who has seemingly turned on the attribute of creativity she once represented. And if as many postulate: WoR Spoilers Maybe some will be redeemed? It seems premature, but they will definitely play a major part. It's information from Words of Radiance readings. I've archived all the readings we have here. Also, I'm biased because I write for it, but the Coppermind is typically better cited and more accurate. I've run across some disturbing inaccuracies while browsing on the SA Wiki. I like the Parshendi, and really hope that they're on the side of good. That being said, Jasnah is rarely wrong, so she's probably onto something. I don't think that she has the whole answer yet. Something you may not know is that Taravangian has visited the Old Magic, and the gift he received is a fluctuating intelligence. Some days he's average, other days a genius, and still others a moron. That's likely why you see those discrepancies. I think Taravangian is trying to do good in what he's doing, but I feel like he may be going about it the wrong way, or maybe at least not the way Honor would have him do it. I don't know what happened to Taln. But he is alive still, he's confirmed to have a POV in an interlude in WoR. He also will be the subject of a flashback book, like Kaladin was in TWoK. Hopefully that was somewhat helpful! Any other questions? EDIT: Figured I didn't want multiple people all typing out the same answers to one set of questions if I could help it.
  4. They don't necessarily go back to heal someone. Blushweaver saw the impending war and went back to try to marshal forces to defend Hallandren. She didn't need to heal anyone, and Brandon's said that she would be relatively pleased with how things turned out.
  5. Right you are. Taken care of.
  6. In Lift's case, I don't think it counts unless she actually converts that food or body fat storage into Stormlight. If it is just digested naturally, then there's no magic necessary.
  7. Or spike a parshman with a human attribute to bring him to the intelligence level of a Parshendi? It would be cool to see someone try. I think they both have that Cognitive blockage, because their personalities are all unique, independent of the forms, so they must be there inside of every parshman.
  8. My problem is that the Radiant from Dalinar's vision in Starfall was pretty certain that the Midnight Essence had been "released" and was not one of the Voidbringers.
  9. On the intelligence of mistwraiths:
  10. I was lucky enough to snag a copy of the Dangerous Women anthology before its release date. Man... I need to know more about the world of Shadows for Silence. One of my favorite of Brandon's short stories.

  11. I'm the only one with access and we will not be doing that. Steelhunt stuff is not to be publicly posted. Thanks though.
  12. Nope. They're free to be as speculative as they wish. Please refrain from telling people what to do, especially in a just for fun topic. In addition to that, I think you're overestimating the rarity of Allomancy. During the Final Empire, House Venture alone had two dozen Allomancers on staff. Granted, not all were Coinshots. But by the time modern day rolls around, Allomancy has further diffused into the populace, and Coinshots are among the most common of Allomancers. I don't think it would end up being any more difficult than assembling, say a professional football team. The kind of people who have the talent you want are rare, but they're out there.
  13. That was not the impression I received, although I can't remember where we found it out so I can't confirm. Brandon did discuss space travel when plotting Sixth of the Dusk and given the setting of Shadows for Silence, you'd think if people there had space travel, they would be eager to escape that world...
  14. Brandon's confirmed that all Shards are driven to follow their intents externally, it doesn't apply to themselves. So Cultivation doesn't try to cultivate herself, Preservation doesn't try to preserve himself (obviously) and etc.
  15. We may get an answer one day. Brandon's still obfuscating some information about the Lord Ruler for unknown reasons. He won't tell us why he tried to end the Final Empire or who Lutha was.
  16. I imagine that WoR will deal with the Lightweavers (Shalash) since it's Shallan's book.
  17. I don't just make stuff up. If I'm theorizing, I make it clear that I am theorizing. Sixth of the Dusk was brainstormed, setting and all, on an episode of Writing Excuses, well after Brandon gave the ten Shardworlds quota. Thinking logically, this planet could not have been counted in that number as it had not even been thought up yet. I apologize if this seems short, but I don't just make claims based on no evidence without even saying that I'm taking a shot in the dark.
  18. As I've said twice now, ten worlds that matter. Sixth of the Dusk and Shadows for Silence are not counted among these.
  19. Possibly? I think a Shard has to actively invest itself in a planet to have influence there. Personally, I'm still sticking to the possibility that Brandon mentioned when he told us about the ten main worlds. Some planets just have a Splinter of a Shard on them, nothing more. This could power what seems like a planet that has a lot of passive powers and not so many active and flashy abilities. A bit off topic, but I'm not even convinced in the case of "The Evil" from Shadows for Silence that it comes from Adonalsium in any way.
  20. This seems like a lot of work for questionable benefit to me. A lot of the epigraphs are either fairly straightforward or so obscure and confusing that it's difficult to have a meaningful discussion. It really doesn't seem to warrant a subforum in my opinion and certainly not ~60 individual topics. If any one else on the staff or another member wants to jump here and express and alternate opinion, I'd love to hear it, but right now, I think that a single topic would be sufficient to discuss the epigraphs without too much confusion. It's worked before, after all.
  21. But Sixth of the Dusk and Shadows for Silence are confirmed to be unimportant side-worlds, so they definitely won't count in the main ten. As for more than sixteen Shards, that seems like a rather large step to me.
  22. I doubt it has a Shard, the planet is supposed to be unimportant. Maybe just a Splinter or something. This planet seems to have some sort of space travel, according to Brandon.
  23. The view new content button seems to be having some troubles. It wouldn't work at all when I was on mobile, and when I use it on my laptop, I'm confronted with this error message. Maybe I've screwed something up, but I thought I'd mention it.
  24. Generally not a good idea to assume that something is cosmere before it's confirmed to be, but in this case you are correct.
