  1. A little ball appeared beside the Witherlord. Less a physical object, more a small fuzz in the air that didn't seem real. It radiated a small impression: What is happening? I...can't remember what's happening? It seemed to suddenly turn its attention to the Witherlord. Oh! Hello! Who are you? Could I tag along? I don't really know where to go.
  2. "Some thug in the markets tried to take my sword, so I decked him." He grabbed a piece of fruit from the coffee table in front of the couch and started peeling it. "Some cop saw it and pulled me in for 'disturbing the peace'. Took an hour, but it cleared up." He took a bite of his fruit. "Probably a cipher. Self important parts of the Underground like them. Makes them feel sneaky."
  3. Welcome to the Shard! Please consider making an intro post, it helps the community get to know you and lets you list the books you have read to avoid spoilers. Please avoid necrosing threads, as it is against Shard policy. In the future, you can make a new thread and link this one if you want.
  4. Shaun slid his sword back into his belt as he walked out of the police station. He liked the heros from the old stories, their skill with blades and physical strength. He liked to imagine himself as one of those heros, even if his sword got him in trouble with the local policing force. Luckily, some of the higher ups were old friends from school, and knew he was more of a joke than a real threat. Maybe that was why Harold put up with his shenanigans? He rolled up his sleeves and walked into the shop. "I'm back!" he called. He walked over to the couch and flopped down. "Anybody miss me?"
  5. I'd really like to go to Japan or somewhere in that kind of area. I...really like Asian food, and Japan is really clean with really nice people.
  6. I'm LDS, but have never really posted here, so..... Hello! I got accepted into BYU Provo and start this Fall, and I'm planning to submit my mission papers around December or so.
  7. Surprise them and have a Stoneward drop them into a giant stone pit, close the top, and pile stone on top of it. Then fill in the cave with stone, have the Stoneward do this so there are so cracks) and they suffocate after a few days/weeks/months. All you need is the element of surprise. The Fullborn can't punch or run their way out of that. Crazy though, but trick the Fullborn to eat Yelig-nar. If you get lucky, they get consumed or are using their healing to not die to Yelig-nar. This is more of a crackpot theory than anything else though... Set up an Aon trap/curses?
  8. I would agree that it didn't go as far for Shallan as it did Kaladin. Kaladin had put himself in a position where he would break an oath regardless of what he did, whereas Shallan was simply backsliding and needed to confront the problem permanently. But how do the Unmade factor into this? Pattern may be scared because of what the Midnight Mother almost did to him and Shallan, and cause him to be scared of Unmade in general, but his reaction is drowsiness and and bringing up the truth that she is ignoring.
  9. Still room for more? I'd like to be a player.
  10. I noticed a small detail on my reread of OB, where Pattern may be regressing mentally because Shallan is straining their bond. This feels eerily similar to when Syl started backsliding in WoR because Kaladin had made conflicting oaths. Could Shallan be killing Pattern here she refuses to accept the Truths she spoke even after she spoke them as Ideals?
  11. Welcome to the Shard! If you had access to a single surge which one would you want?
  12. Just to make sure we're on the same page, you are saying that Stormlight healed someone to match their internal identity, not that stormlight changed their internal identity? Because I would agree that stormlight did not change their identity. As a side note, if Rysn could fully use her Dawnshard, she could probably heal her legs. That well of power should be more than enough to change her spiritweb imo, if she had the ability to fully use it.
  13. My point was that smaller amounts of Investiture are limited to restoring the physical body to a spiritual ideal. People like Returned have so much Investiture that they can force a desired change. Healing a Shardblade wound restores the body, but growing an extra arm would require someone to alter their Spiritweb or some other Identity shenanigans.
  14. Gertrude would probably have a cognitive shift because she is hyper fixating on Wayne. She is trying to brute force a new identity, and gold might help that along. But I don't think F-Gold is enough for simply mental gymnastics to have a big change. Returned are highly Invested, among the highest in the cosmere. That amount of power lets them bend the rules imo, but gold can't match that level. The former sounds like what you are suggesting: Gertrude was constantly portrayed not as Gertrude, but a not-Wayne that existed solely to become/kill him. For the latter, that feels more like someone naturally trying to emulate another person. People are constantly changing, and who they are around or focus on play into how they change.
  15. When Gallant is Lashed to transport him to the Oathgate, he seems to really enjoy it. I started to wonder if the old Radiants had Ryshadium, since Gallant is so comfortable with Lashings, and how they would work together on a battlefield. How would this pairing affect the battle? Would Gravitation make pseudo planes? Could Abrasion make a shock unit out of two people, able to glide in and kill dozens and get out before any response? Any thoughts?
  16. This is similar to what the Willshaper(?) Honorbearer did to Szeth. It seems that skilled users have incredible control over how the stone can move, creating pillars giant pillars of encasing someone in a stone sphere. As to what their range is, I don't think there is any concrete information.
  17. Is your member title a Regina Spektor reference?
  18. In one of Dalinar's flashbacks in OB, he goes out into the highstorm looking for his knife. He sees something with glowing legs. Does anyone know what he saw?
  19. Granted. You can only move around if you are riding on said pony. I wish to be able to walk on the walls and floor.
  20. Before Szeth appears to try to kill Dalinar, we have a scene with Shallan where Pattern is mumbling to himself that Szeth is coming, or something to that effect. How did he know this? Was it a writing decision that Sanderson made to increase the tension by making the spren act weird, or spiritual mumbo jumbo about Shallan's double bond giving Pattern knowledge of this event?
  21. Is Kelsier the Cognitive Shadow stuck in the spike? If he is, I join the Ghostbloods, gain their trust, and steal the spike from his eye socket then run before I get caught. From the safety of my government protected safe house, I can try to kill Kelsier. Maybe some anti-Mist or something? If he is fully stuck in their I could also put him in an aluminum box and chuck him into the ocean. If removing the spike chucks Kelsier into the CR, then I need to sneak a Raysium knife with anti-Mist into a meeting with Kelsier. Kill him before it gets difficult to hurt him.
  22. Do you mean bonding with a Shard that has a Vessel, or becoming the Vessel for a Shard. The second one I would agree with, but the first feels different for reasons I can't fully put into words. A spren bond is a Nahel bond, a symbiotic relationship that trades power for cognition. A Vessel/Shard bond feels exactly like this. A Shard can absolutely Invest someone, but I don't know if they can form bonds in the same way that a spren can. Avatars or Heralds are probably an example of the first scenario. Coppermind: Hope this helps
  23. I found a WoB, and its Era 1 Mistborn that is based on France. Era 2 has a lot of Wild West and other American influences. WoB:
  24. Light is the gaseous and liquid phases for the Rosharon Shards. Other Shards already have something that fills these roles (Breath, the mists, etc). Mist might be capturable in a gemstone (don't know if it can), but probably won't give off light like Stormlight. WoB:
