I think as a single shard, invention would be pretty cool for me. Invention just fits pretty well with my skillset/interests. As a hybrid, I think Invention and Whimsy would be awesome together, again, it would align pretty well with my preferences. If I were to be a super hybrid of more than two shards, I think I would add valor to that, maybe preservation too. If i had to choose though, I'd rather not have any shards at all, I would not want it to mess with me as a person, and I just don't want to have that much responsibility/power

Emerik gave a short laugh, "I guess that settles it."

"I hate to interrupt, but I think the safest option for her is to stay with us."

"That's good," Emerik looked relieved, "I would've felt bad if I had convinced you to be a penguin and your head got worse."

"Did turning into the penguin make your head hurt any worse?"

Emerik watched the pair walk away, then he turned to Par. "How are you feeling today? You hit your head pretty hard."

Good job, that captures the character I have in my mind really well.

I'm about half way through the first book and I completely agree. Probably one of my favorite parts of it is the philosophy surrounding death. It's done just masterfully in my opinion
