The magic system was mostly the subconscious warping of ones body, and by me actually having ideas for the allomantic and feruchemical uses . But I could try to make an expanded one if I feel like it. Hedonism would be accurate, but also not really capture the entire scope of the Shard. But none of the Shard names really capture their full complexity, just hints of it. Like how Honor also is about natural laws and physical and metaphysical binding. Or Ruin is about entropy and inevitable decay and the concept of finality, rather than just destruction. Or how Odium is far more than just hatred. Or how Preservation is about stasis and the status quo, even if said status quo is inherently destructive and malignant. Or whatever is going on with Autonomy.

Well, 256 is a multiple of 16, so it does still work. 16^2.

No problem, happy to help!

Passion + Whimsy Bonus World: Adonalsium 2:

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying that each bindpoint has a deeper connection, I just felt that the number would manifest itself due to how closely the arts are related. Same with that it can steal any power, as it is still most closely connected to Allomancy and Feruchemy. And yeah, I know that they are loosely based on meridians, that much is very clear. Hemalurgy is just more brutal acupuncture that kills you and destroys your soul.

I wondered how many different Orders of Knights Radiant there could be if any Surge combination was possible, and it is 45. Erasing which ones we already have, we have these Orders left unused. While we have only So: Why do you think these in particular were chosen when making the Knights Radiant Theorize away at how the different combinations would manifest and how they could be used together. Like the Twinborn thread. I find: Division and Progression Adhesion and Gravitation Cohesion and Adhesion Transformation and Tension Division and Cohesion To be pretty interesting ideas.

So there are between 200 and 300, but what number would it be exactly? I have a theory on that, it is probably 256, as there are 256 different types of Twinborns (so different types of ways the two powers can interact), this I feel fits as Hemalurgy is about stealing Allomancy and Feruchemy, and 256 is between 200 and 300. That or 289, which includes those that are just Mistings or just Ferrings, and those without any Metallic Arts (288 if you don't include those without the powers) I know we don't know enough to confirm or deny it, I do want to see how plausible people think it is. Interesting parallel to Words of Radiance . . .
Firesong replied to Eran of Arcadia's topic in Cosmere Discussion
It means Dragonsteel, which is after Mistborn Era 3, and Elantris 2 and 3, and Stormlight Era 2, and before Era 4. So still a while is left. -

True, true. I should have worded myself better. -
Well, Spiritwebs are able to lose Identity via things like Feruchemy. So it isn't impossible, fits with how we already know things to work. And that does help with how easy they are to change with the perception of only one person.

Interesting parallel to Words of Radiance . . .

I wonder, are Returned directly copied from the Fused and Heralds? We do know that a lot of Warbreaker was intentionally made to have connections with Stormlight. -

Because we are converting into standard years, as we are comparing times on different planets, Rosharan years are 1.1x longer than the standard year length. -

So ~7,700, thanks. Brandon said in a WoB that it was a few generations between WB and WoK, most recently. -

We at least have an idea that Fused were made more than 6,600 years before Stormlight (via Lezian being at least 6000 Rosharan years old). Heralds were made not long after. Returned came around 600 years before Warbreaker, which is around 100 years (doubt it is any more than that, given things Brandon has said), so around 700 years before Warbreaker. So, yeah, that is currently the order that we know so far (although I am of the opinion that Vo might not be the First Returned, but as far as we know he is, so I am going with that). Shades we have no clue, but they either predate, or came right after, the fight between Odium and Ambition, which was over 6,600 years ago. So, they definitely predate Fused and Heralds, and therefore predate Returned as well. -
Yeah, nobody is asking you to shut up. Criticism is just an important part of theory-crafting, nobody has it out for you or anything. Don't worry. And disproven or unlikely theories just give a vehicle to further learning and deeper understanding! So keep posting theories, if you enjoy it. Don't feel discouraged. We are a rather accepting community over here.

Don't do what? Use those words? If that's what you mean, yeah, alright, I won't. As I said, I don't really mind, as much as I was just asking a question. The main thing that annoyed me was the bot immediately assuming I was trying to avoid the rules and responding by replacing it with text claiming that I was. Wouldn't have minded if not for that. Anyway, thanks for the help. Night.

Strange, I found it in my wordsearch, Had to look it up myself to make sure I wasn't going crazy (really though, I am paranoid and doubt myself a lot, so that is the main reason I am still talking about this, want to prove that I did in fact see it). Maybe something wrong with your wordsearch? Anyway, yeah, it is all arbitrary anyway. As I said not a big deal, and I don't have much to add. Just wanted to point out that it is there. Thank you for your help. Also, won't be able to answer again for a bit, I am going to sleep shortly.

Why is it considered different? I am genuinely wondering about that, as it is just past-tense, put through an artificial ablaut. I don't see anything that makes it less strong than the present tense. Also including the variant with bull or horse? Which are the ones used in Frugal and the previews. (feels odd that I am still talking about this even though I don't really mind, but I guess it feels like I am saying more due to forums leading to just less posts as it takes longer to communicate. Just hope I am not looking like I am desperate or anything, as I feel like I am coming across harder or pushier than I intend. Like, ultimately, I don't mind, it is just one word, and a few variants that I have to abstain from, not a big deal at all. Basically said all I needed to say.) Well, thanks again @Chaos for your help. It is, once again, most appreciated. You can close or delete this thread if you have nothing more to add, as I don't really have more either outside of what I already said. PS: Also, fun fact, a lot of modern english profanity had the way they are viewed originate in classism and feelings of linguistic supremacy by Norman French invaders and by people who adopted French language and culture. A lot of non-French words were seen as fundamentally lesser and crasser. Not using this as an excuse, btw, just find it an interesting linguistic and historical fact. Showing where the public view on words, beyond their precise denotation, came to form. And like, how so many PG "swears", actually arise from old British minced oaths. Linguistic history is fascinating.

It has appeared in Words of Radiance, Bands of Mourning (I think that is the one), and Frugal Wizard, and also in the SA5 previews. (two of those use the version with an a, so the past tense verb form, but still the same word, essentially) The word I mean can mean poop. (it is hard to explain things without using the word itself, feels weird trying to describe it while dancing around it)

Theory about Marsh at the end of Lost Metal.
Firesong replied to Aon Ati's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Eh, I highly doubt that. They still adored the Heralds, it was the Knights Radiant that they came to hate. They believe that the Heralds are fighting the Voidbringers in the Tranquiline Hills. The Foolish attributes definitely arose due to the madness they are suffering from, and than probably influenced the idea of the Ten Fools. I doubt that they current nature comes from what people think of them.- 17 replies

Understandable. And yeah, technically all swear filters are arbitrary. As meaning in language itself is arbitrary, why is it blue and not tobuk, and why does it describe what it does? So yeah, it ultimately is all arbitrary anyway. Same goes for the strength of swears. And yeah, I wouldn't really have brought it up if it was an f-bomb for instance, as that hasn't yet appeared in the books. I was just a bit confused due to how I feel that what is written in the books should be allowed to be written here (for the most part, obviously some exceptions apply). Thanks for responding to my inquiry, it is most appreciated.

I have a question about the rules regarding profanity, and that is about what is considered to fall under that and why. I had a bot erased for a censored use of the s-word (no, I was not trying to avoid the bot, I just censor my own profanity, I am weird like that. Was quite annoying that the bot edited my post with public liable based on a bad-faith assumption, though), which I assumed was okay due to the fact that Brandon uses it in his own books, which led me to question the exact reasons behind what the rule covers as the books we discuss here contain that word. I would perfectly understand for stronger words that Brandon avoids, just not ones that the books use. I am assuming it is due to a slippery slope? You want to avoid an onslaught of very strong profanity, but to make exceptions like that would lead to making a bunch of arbitrary decisions that are difficult to reasonably justify? (I am assuming it is just this, which I thought of just right now, but still going to ask anyway for confirmation) Note: I am not going to flip out if I have to continue following the rule (I know I will have to, this one post definitely won't change forum policy), I will follow it gladly. I am just wondering about the reasoning in that context. Also, I suggest addition of the rule on profanity be included on the forum, as it claims that only the Discord has this rule, despite this happening to me on the Forum. Actually, I found it, and it is only in the Code of Conduct section and not in the Policies section, and the Policies section only mentions profanity in regards to Discord, I recommend you make an edit that makes the forum rules more clear. I apologize if this comes across as overly hostile, I am simply trying to ask a question regarding the rules.
