Rayvyn eyed her suspiciously. “Who are you?” She asked. “Should I kill you or are you going to put that down, slowly, and behave?”

Already my plan, Rayvyn thought. She hurries inside, seeing Tacien and Gone, who she vaguely recognized from the hotel. “Are you ok?” She asks Tacien, then remembers he can’t answer.

Rayvyn watched this all. My daggers can’t do anything against him. The thought caused her minor discomfort, but she ignored it. I’ll be more helpful somewhere else. She slips past the metal man and inside.

Rayvyn sliced at his leg, hoping it wasn’t made of metal.

Rayvyn looked at him, then shoved it open.

Rayvyn groaned. “I hate humans.” She arrived at the silhouette.

“Do we have to explain this again? A child got kidnapped, we’re here to save him, and I don’t know why we haven’t killed—” she glances at Fadran. “That is, why we stopped to talk to you, since there’s a very good chance you kidnapped him.”

“Lovely, angry deities.” Rayvyn says. “Someone knows how to fight those, right? One of you magic users? Thank you! Let’s go.”

“Great, everyone’s friends,” Rayvyn muttered. “Should we keep going, or would you all like to stop and chat, maybe have lunch while you’re at it?”

Rayvyn rolled her eyes. “Did you all forget that we have a child to save, and we’re in enemy territory? What happened to killing everyone, Klave?”

“You’re alive?” Rayvyn asks, though the question is pointless. She turns back to him. “We don’t have time to waste. Come with us, or go through that portal there.”

Rayvyn seems surprised by this, but accepts it without comment. “I don’t recognize them. Let’s keep moving.”

Rayvyn rushed up behind him. “What did you find?”

Rayvyn followed, barely seeming to notice the cold.

Rayvyn went through immediately after Cufre.

Rayvyn nods sharply. If nothing else, she can do as she's told. "Very well. Let's go." She discreetly wipes poison off the blades of her knives.

"Boring..." Rayvyn smiles. "I would like that."

Rayvyn groans. "You are all so exhausting! I am coming, even if I must find my own way. Death is better than life, and I will not fight with you on this. But I let people make their own choices, and I cannot let Tacien stay there when I can help."

Rayvyn nods. "Yes, I have noticed that. I don't understand it, but there are shocking differences everywhere else I go. Is the portal nearly ready?" She says it all in the same tone, pensive, almost angry.

Rayvyn shakes her head, amused. "You people are so...peculiar. Why are you so fixated on this? If you came to my world, you would understand. If you looked in their eyes, you would understand. Somehow, none of you seem to know fact. The best gifts are the ones you cannot give to yourself. Death is a gift people have sworn not to accept, or are to afraid of. But it is a gift, even to those of you who don't recognize it."

"Of course not!" Rayvyn agrees. "We can get him back here first." "I do not love death. Death is a constant, a fact, an escape, a gift. But I do not love it."

"He will need to learn that there are things we need to do. They may hurt, but they must be done." Rayvyn nods. "Some of them may be determined, but this is the safest way. Torture would work better, but it would likely hurt Tacien too much, and it isn't necessary."

Ravelast: Sixth Archive Gateway Rue thinks for a moment. "What else?" She murmurs quietly, almost to herself. "There are good days. There was a time that I traveled with peaceful nomads. Those were good days, the kind that make life worth living." She smiles, forgetting Insa is there as she remembers. "Days traveling in the sun, nights spent playing music and dancing.
