  1. Would their Investiture protect them, or is that a Stormlight-specific thing?
  2. I forgot about that, never mind. I don't think it would have the same shock, but I do think that it would have a lesser one. I agree with your assessment of closing your eyes for a few seconds. It would have a minor effect. Certainly not to the same level that doing it to someone who had never experienced it (which I don't include the Heralds in, as per Alder's point about type of Investiture not mattering, and them being incredibly Invested), but it would have some effect. When I close my eyes for a few seconds outside, I don't instantly adjust, it does take me another couple seconds after opening my eyes. thank you! If it's within sound of their voice, couldn't Jezrien create a vacuum, as we know windrunners can do and prevent the voice from going anywhere? Heralds don't need to breath, Stormlight sustains them, and it (might) prevent the distant transfer of Breaths. That's one of the WOBs talking about windrunners controlling pressure, there's plenty more if you want to check.
  3. and when editing, is the "summary" box a summary of the changes you make that doesn't show up on the actual page?
  4. Are coppermind accounts the same as 17S accounts, or are they different things?
  5. You're conflicting yourself with this argument. The Heralds are already incredibly Invested, and probably have many, if not all, of these effects already. Thus, this wouldn't affect them as much as it did Denth. Also, if you lose all of these Breaths, that would probably also stun you, at least somewhat. Then, regaining them from your scarf would probably also stun you. On another note, does anyone know if the target needs to hear the command to gain the Breath?
  6. I kind of interpreted it as Evi in the Beyond, because the book explicitly says he goes to the Beyond. I also have trouble believing that anything that could match a Shard's power (ie, other Shards) would have as strong (or stronger) of a claim on him than the Shard he held minutes before. While he does act with valor, I doubt that Valor would intervene (due to the opposition of a very powerful double Shard). I think it could be cool if he's not dead, and Valor did save him, and he eventually has to fight the Blackthorn that Retribution took from the CR.
  7. Hacob appeared. "Yo, Pancakes! I remember your Author. So what should an elephant gentleman never do?"
  8. "If that's how you feel, I'll be on my way." He started striding off towards the horizon purposefully.
  9. Ah. I missed that. Thank you. In addition to this, I have reread and seen that as Retribution's Perpendicularity fills up where Odium's had been, the song Venli hears is the Rhythm of War, so I guess it's probably something to do with Taravangian's Intent upon picking up Shards.
  10. true, but cultivation's light is Lifelight, (not Honor and her light together, that's Towerlight). in addition, lights are different from the rhythms. yes, but those are lights, not rhythms. (to my knowledge) we don't know what Honor + Cultivation rhythm is, or Odium + Cultivation. We do, however, know the Divine Rhythm of Odium + Honor.
  11. My brother and I were theorizing before reading, and came up with the idea of someone picking up both Shards. I don't understand why it isn't called War though. We have the Rhythm of War, but the Shard (of the rhythms that make the Rhythm of War) is Retribution?
  12. I mean... if melted steel met the qualifications of "liquid" than by definition it might be
  13. Hacob stood there, waiting to see if the traveler wanted to continue this conversation.
  14. I have now finished WaT and am back. holy crap. time to go reread it.

  15. He's prepping for the trial in TLT. He's not allowed out.
  16. "Should it be measured in the emotion it evokes? Or should it be measured in the amount of said emotion it evokes? Or should it be measured by something else entirely?" Hacob took a breath, then continued. "Why does happiness matter? I suppose, that technically, you could argue it doesn't. I like to feel happy, and so it matters to me." "Do talk. I can tell you have something to say."
  17. a) the outcome was that water, by definition, is wet b) it depends. if lava is liquid enough to qualify as "liquid" than it would meet the definition of wet just because one thing is wet doesn't mean that all things that are wet must contain that one thing. For example, rocks can be wet, but not all wet things must have rocks. I personally would say that lava is not liquid enough to count as "liquid" and is therefore not wet.
  18. "Oh, are you also having an existential crisis? That greatly changes my response." He cleared his throat. "So what if we're not real? Does that really mean we don't exist? That we don't matter? If we can evoke emotion in the ones that are real (and we can, I assure you that), are we any less real than music or art? Do those now not matter?" He paused, then realized he'd gotten off topic. "But I digress. The Thread is important because it brings joy to our Authors. And I have a lot better things happen to me when my Author is happy. So if you care about yourself, than the Thread is important, and if you care about your Author, the Thread is important. If you don't care about anything, than you will never care about the people here anyway."
