  1. Whist glanced around, waiting on the dock for the rest of their company to catch up. The town wasn't necessarily run-down, but it certainly wasn't grand either. The dock led directly to a central street lined with shops. Lanterns had been lit in preparation of the on-coming night, and they illuminated fading shop signs and banners. A lazy crowd of people moved through the street, on their way home from the fields. It looked like a fairly normal place to her. "I suppose it's alright," Whist said. She preferred the safe anonymity of big cities. Everyone in small towns wanted to know who you were and why you were bothering them. @Ookla the Nerdy @Ookla the Pencil Taxi @Ookla the Implosion @InfiniteInsanity
  2. "That's good, hopefully you'll feel better after we've been on solid ground for a while," she said, walking up to the gangway.
  3. "Nothing," Whist lied, "I'm just a little tired." The ferry was now much closer to the land, and the crew was preparing to dock. The port-town was much smaller than the one they had come from. It was basically a glorified village, with a single wooden dock stretching into the water. The town only existed because people often traveled between these two islands. A several day trek was needed to reach Caerlon's capital, as it was on the other side of the island. -- The ferry pulled up to the wooden dock and a gangway was set up. People began pouring off, servants ran forward to hire a carriages and crew members unloaded cargo. A cloaked figure lost himself in the crowd. Whist let go of Fiadh's shoulders to see if she could stand.
  4. A few minutes later, and the dark spot in the distance had grown considerably. The Caerlon island was much larger than the one they had been on, and the land covered most of the horizon. Caerlon was fairly flat, save for a few low hills. The captain of the ferry finished discussing docking orders with his crew, and addressed the passengers. They were a group of about 70, most were travelers or small-time merchants, with only a few upper-class citizens. "Attention everyone," He began, his voice slurred with a western accent. "We are approaching Caerlon, and should dock within the next half hour, I must ask all of you to be patient so that we can disembark in an orderly fashion, If you have cargo being transported in the hold, please come speak with me and we will see about getting it unloaded for you . . ." He continued on about what should go were and who should do what, but Whist wasn't paying very much attention. Hopefully after they got off of the ferry, Fiadh would feel better. She glanced over her shoulder and saw a tall, hooded figure on the other side of the ferry. A large grin was all she could really see of his face. She sighed, mildly frustrated. She had hoped he would let her alone so she could work.

    Hi

    Hello!!!
  7. okay random thing but

I have to do this final piece for my art class and the theme is "Emerging"

The main challenge is I have to find my own reference image (I have to take the photo myself) and it needs to have extremely specific lighting.

    So . . .

does anyone have any ideas? I'm at a complete loss

(and the things I can think of, I can't get a picture of -_-)

    1. Szeth's Facepalm

      Szeth's Facepalm

in the art piece, you could be climbing out of a cocoon? with wings?

I actually thought about doing like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon, the main problem with that is that I need to take the picture myself, so its hard to do anything to fantastical or in my case out of season,

I actually had the idea to do like a half peeled orange, which sounds boring, but my art teacher likes it and he can be reaaaally picky ;)

      thanks for the thoughts tho!

  8. "Oh dear!" Whist said rushing over, she pulled a small leaf out of her bag. She was going to have to find a place to buy more supplies, she was running out quickly. "Your probably right, it should pass with a little time," Whist approached Fiadh and gently handed her the leaf. "For now, see if you can suck on this a little, it should help with the nausea." Whist gently holds her by the shoulders, making sure she doesn't fall. From the other side of the deck, a call rings out; The crew of the ship had sight of Caerlon. "Just a bit longer," Whist said gently to Fiadh. She couldn't help feeling a bit guilty, but she had expected a child who grew up in a port city to have more experience on the ocean.
  9. While on the ferry, the sun had started setting, and with it went Whist's energy. She really should have tried harder to sleep earlier. She was distracted from her fatigue as Nayka ran up to her, in the distance she saw Fiadh standing by the railing of the deck. "Is everything alright?"
  10. Thank yoou! Yeah it is, I can't remember if its ever descried what he wears so I just put him in a Kholin uniform, it seemed to fit ^^
  11. "The ferry only takes a few hours, so it won't be an extended time on the water," Whist said, trying to comfort Fiadh. "I think the next one leaves in an hour, we could try and catch that one or wait for tomorrow. It depends on how ready you all are to leave, I'm ready to go now, but I can wait if we need."
  12. "That's the part I'm working on, I know the general neighborhood were it was lost, but no exact locations, so we'll have to do some searching. There's also a chance someone will have taken it before we find it, stamps can be really valuable. However I'm hoping that its nondescript enough that it will have just gotten ignored." Whist didn't share just how valuable the stamp collection was. Not because she didn't trust them but because Larsik had directly told her not to. "No, the distance between Caerlon and the island we're on is pretty small, there's a ferry we can take. But the city will be on the other side of the island, so we will have to do some traveling."
  13. "Of course you can join! This kind of job is easier with a team, so the more the merrier," Whist said, pleased. "We're looking a stamp collection." She said. Whist gestured for her companions to sit, as this would take a while to explain. "I work for a man named Larsik, he's the governor of Shak Tu, an island south of here. On one of his business trips, he misplaced the stamp collection and has sent me to find it for him, as he's too busy to find it himself. Its been about a fortnight since he lost it. I'm fairly sure its in the city of Caerlon, which is on the next island over. Where exactly it is in the city will be harder to determine I'm afraid." She shuffled through the papers on the table, and pointed out Caerlon on the map.
  14. "Nice! I'm afraid I don't have much knowledge of swords, but we might meet someone who does!" "That is correct!" Whist said, turning to study the newcomer. She had never seen anything like them, the diversity of people in Orteo continued to amaze her. "My companions and I are looking for a lost item that belongs to an old friend of mine."
  15. ". . .There will be food! and who knows, it could be fun!" @Ookla the Nerdy
  16. "Great!" Whist was happy she wouldn't have to continue her journey alone. "What about you two?" she asked, turning to the other girls "want to come with?" She smiled broadly as if to say It'll be fuuun!! @InfiniteInsanity @Ookla the Pencil Taxi
  17. "I guess so, I'm trying to figure where it might have wound up, seeing as he isn't quite sure when or where on his trip he lost it." she said. "Making a list of the possible places it could be is the best way to start I think." "Oh hey! what if you came with me? I could certainly use someone with your skillset, and who knows, you might start to figure out the who-am-I thing on the way!"
  18. "Unfortunately it doesn't, though it would be way cooler if it did! Its just an album full of stamps, you know--the kind you mail stuff with, the collection belongs to a friend of mine and he misplaced it on a recent trip of his, so he sent me to go find it for him."
  19. "I," Whist said with a smile, "am searching for a lost stamp collection."
  20. "Oh, I'm sorry. Sleeping during the day has always been hard for me too," Whist replied. She began digging through a small stack of papers, finding a specific document. Comparing it to a map on the table, she began to scribble down notes in a journal.
  21. "Good morning!" Whist said as she saw the 3 girls approach her, completely forgetting that it was mid-afternoon. "How did you all sleep?"
  22. Whist was the first to get up, despite her exhaustion she hadn't slept much. It was hard for her to sleep during the day, she couldn't stand missing out on sunlight. It was a Star Mage thing. She quickly climbed down the stairs to the inns common room. After nodding to the Innkeeper who was still at the counter, she located an empty table. The inn was much busier now that it was the afternoon, and bubble of conversation hung over the room. After digging around in her bag, she pulled out some maps as well as a couple other documents and spread them out across the table. She sighed, it was time to get back to work.
