Wait I haven't been following the Shard for a while when did you become a Tauriel defender?

1-was silly
2-was cool
3-this is a hot take but I didn't hate the romance
4-it's contextually hilarious for her to be ginger if you know the wider Tolkien lore
5-I really like elves
6-she gave thranduil a reason to have more screentime, and I'm obsessed with him.
(rant warning for more serious thoughts)
SpoilerI have spite for (intentional and unintentional) misogynists who use critique of her character as a platform for misogyny. I could go on an angry rant about this, but I hope it's not necessary. No, Tauriel is not a very well written character, but including a named female character in an adaptation of a book that doesn't have ANY is a good, if not necessary, thing. We can change stuff in adaptation if the og has flaws from being a product of it's time.
In the end I don't even like her that much, I just find myself alone in the fact that I didn't think she was terrible. I liked some of her scenes. I didn't like some of the others. People view media with such a black and white lens these days and it's really frustrating. Media exists that isn't garbage and that isn't a masterpiece, and it's okay to enjoy it and appreciate the good parts. I find myself defending her on principle, for the sake of defending having a nuanced opinion on mediocre pieces of media in general.
