    “I— maybe you didn’t decide. It doesn’t matter now. Eat your chicken.” She ripped a leg off the chicken and shoved it into his hands.

    “Thanks,” Gail said. “—Are you okay? Qodi can—“ She cut off as the rabbit tugged her hair. Wait, my Qodi? Wtesc??

    “Well, you must have had a good reason.” She hoped he had.

    This is what you get “Yeah, we’re okay.” Gail didn’t have a scratch on her. Since she was too useless to fight. Qodi had a little scratch on her paw. She pressed her paw down onto Gail’s shoulder. The scratch vanished. Gail felt a pain in her hand and sighed. Oh well. Sometimes it was much worse.

    At that last bit, Qodi looked away and scratched her ear innocently.

    “You didn’t remember. It’s okay.”

    “I know,” she assured him. “It’s okay.” Bubbles in a sea of iron, clawing, breathing but impossible. She stiffened. “It’s okay,” she repeated.

    Gail shivered. “Okay. Well, maybe we can gather the plot holes and… lock them in a dungeon.” Qodi would have rolled her eyes if she thought that would be appropriate. She jumped to Gail’s shoulder, now rabbit sized again, dense muscles churning under her fur. They’d last until sometime tomorrow, if she used them carefully.

    She led him into the kitchen. “What do you feel like eating? Oh, there’s roasted chicken.” She was worried about him. It hurt to see him sad… there had to be something she could do.

    “Oh. Fun. What’s a plot hole?” Qodi didn’t want to be left behind as a useless bunny again. She jumped up onto his shoulder, muscles shrinking and collapsing back into normal bunny skin.

    “Both. Everybody.”

    Gail hurried over to him. Qodi apparently thought she could take care of herself. Which was ridiculous. “Who are these people?”

    “TAAron, come on. It’ll be okay.” She tugged him to his feet. “Everything’s fine now. We can go back to the clinic— everything’s fine now.”

    This got Qodi’s attention, but she’d prefer not to dig through human flesh to get to the stomach. Gail was horrified by the whole thing. The poor… uh… whatever it was. Qodi snarled and went after the people that crazy dude was fighting. Mmm… she could smell a feast. She had one man down and bleeding in about ten seconds, then snuffled through his pockets and huffed. Just a couple of coins and a belt buckle. Oh well. She ate them.

    She squeezed his hand. “Hey, why don’t we go snitch something from the kitchen?”

    A strong, deep voice rang through his mind. You hold great power. I am quite impressed.

    Gail watched, fascinated. That’s amazing. Stars and rains, if only I could do something like that. The familiar rock in her gut shifted, but she bit her lip hard. This is a good thing. Qodi was glad to see an ally who approached a third of her stature and continued eating chains.

    At the sight of the chains, Qodi growled, which sounded incredibly strange coming from something of her species and size. She bared teeth that looked far more like fangs than rabbit teeth and attacked those who came for her with speed and ferocity that belied… everything about her. Oh, and she ate all the chains that came her way. Yummy. Now she wasn’t little— as little. Though only twice her former size, muscles rippled under her rabbit skin, and her face was terrifying. Gail was extremely relieved about all of this.
