  1. Like this idea! Upvote for cleverness sir! It really fits with Brandon's scientific approach to his world and magic building. With investiture taking the place of things in our physical world like Muons and Quarks (sort of) Condsider me a convert to this theory (until and equally compelling counter theory causes me to tear my remaining hair out in confusion and anguish over which to choose)!
  2. I would love to see a human step into that pool. I think it's fairly obvious from Rock's story about Horneater history in WoR that:
  3. As to the Honorblades, unless he was totally lying (and he could be), T tells Szeth that he heard one of them was stolen from the Stone Shamans... Maybe another Herald has their blade back?
  4. I agree that the Stormfather probably has a presence in Shadesmar, though perhaps not. Syl doesn't now that she's in the physical realm. why do you think that the Stormfather is the font of stormlight? He brings the storms, but that doesn't mean he is the font of the stormlight. I think the storms themselves are what container the stormlight, he is the shepherd so to speak I believe. And I don't believe there are highstorms in Shadesmar. I guess not that we've heard anything about... The idea that there isn't sources of stormlight in Shadesmar is probably not totally true, as Jasnah acquired enough to Elsecall to wherever she ended up in the Epilogue from Shadesmar. But in tWoK she does chide Shallan for going to shadesmar with only "one dim sphere"... the implication being that it was dangerous because she might not be able to get more as I've read it. There are other interpretations of that phrase I suppose though...
  5. I think the main popular idea right now is that they craft bonds! Someone like Dalinar doesn't seem like the type to craft armor, nor do any of the attributes of a Bondsmith really jive with crafting or creativity in the sense of forging armor/metalwork. I'm pretty sure that each KR is responsible for their own plate sets in some way... like they are each responsible for "crafting" their own Shardblade... We'll see though!
  6. There is also this topic where we have been discussing the Bondsmith spren I will be disappointed if a Bondsmith bonds an "Odium" spren.
  7. I like this idea, but I doubt it will be the case since they are translations from Alethi (presumably) and I doubt they are homophones in Alethi. It does make a sort of sense though, so I hope that it is true!
  8. Are Ranette and Steris ever in the same scenes together? I don't remember that... i'll have to go re-read AoL (needed happening anyway)
  9. @Swimmingly I upvoted you to 850 (in the name of science of course...) still seems like you're a Shardbearer though, so it's not quite 25's at that level...
  10. I don't know if the similarities between Parshendi and Returned have been tossed about before. I guess in some way they are related/similar because Returned are powered by a Divine Breath of Endowment, which is a splinter of Endowment. Spren are splinters of a Shard (usually honor/cultivation, though the Stormspren don't seem to be Honor/Cultivation based). we have a WoB from the SF signing that says that Nightblood = Shardblade, "they are the same thing" per that answer. So Nightblood is a splinter of Endowment as well. That indicates that other awakenings mimic the splinter aspect of investiture.
  11. I imagine that with the murder of Sadeas, Adolin will discover a conflict with obedience and bravery. He likely will be banished, but will feel the need to stay (because of the coming conflict) and will have to hide away in some way, maybe still in connection with Shallan. he'll have all sorts of fallout to deal with related to Sadeas' murder. I bet you he eventually confesses it to Dalinar before it is widely known to the rest of the Alethi and that is going to cause conflict with father/son obedience as well.
  12. The fact that the omniscient narrator dubs Cusciech a spren and it's not just Axies saying it is pretty good clue that he is a spren. He does seem to have something going on weird with him given his 10 minute display of faces looking toward the origin. Syl says that the Stormfather is "broken", my guess is, that is because of the Recreance. Big C seems very broken to me as well, more so than the Stormfather. To me C's brokenness would stem from the same event, loosing their bonds with their Bondsmiths. Didn't kill them, but it messed them up a bit. There is the draining effect that he has on everyone watching his performance that says he is very powerful... Obviously it is a pet theory of mine and the only reason it make sense really is the fact that the Words of Radiance epigraphs talk about three Bondsmiths (on average I know) and we have only seen/heard about 3 uber-spren, one of which when bonded creates a Bondsmith Radiant. As to the Stormfather being in the same category as other spren because of motility... why do people assume that the Nightwatcher moves around? Everyone talks about going to her for a boon, not her seeking you out. Sounds to me like she's not very mobile. Big C at least moves in/around/through the harbor in that city. The other large highly mobile "spren" that we've heard about are by WoB, Unmade. And they don't seem like they are quiet the same as spren for bonding purposes based on WoB again.
  13. That apparently doesn't read the same to both of us... I read that as "did the mistress destroy the statue (that we see missing on the night of Gavilar's death)? "yes, and she also destroyed every other messed up statue you've seen" I don't read that as him confirming it happened that night, but that she is the one that did it.
  14. Where was Jezrien? So far the only ones I know about being "confirmed" are by theory that nalan was talking to kalak that night... Baxil's mistress (surmised to be Shalash) had been through, but it doesn't say she did it that night.
  15. Might have to do with perception as well. In that Szeth thinks that his honorblade will vanish when dropped therefore it does. Similar to how in tWoK Shallan "thinks" that her shardblade requires 10 heartbeats, but we know now that it actually does not. Because she thought it did, Pattern would have waited 10 heartbeats to show in blade form.
  16. There is other discussion similar to this going on in the Bondsmiths 3 thread Since I started it, i'll sum it up to say that I think there are only ever 3 bondsmiths and that they bond the 3 super spren we know about/have seen... Stormfather, Cusciech, and the Nightwatcher.
  17. No, he basically turns things to dust that aren't alive (lifeless, stone walls etc). there is definitely blood when he kills living people though... which is very different from a Shardblade. The Q/A indicated that he is a "twisted" and "more powerful" shardblade though. it may be relevant that every time he kills and blood leaks out that I can find, he is still mostly sheathed with only about 1" of the blade exposed. When he is drawn he sucks down Breath prodigiously and turns things to dust by the merest scratch. Warbreaker Annotations:
  18. Thanks for the find. Any thoughts on Nightblood's spren type?
  19. Interesting that the Seon/Skaze bond isn't enough to pull them into the physical more...
  20. That question should probably be the "type" of spren they bond to? That's probably a RAFO, but at least it'll be more specific. The question as phrased has a little too much wiggle room for my tastes as we've seen one Bondsmith bonding. Don't give Brandon Wiggle Room!
  21. I remember that WoB as well and it confused me since Syl's natural form definitely seems to be a young wispy woman. She doesn't seem to like to be in blade form... nor do any of the spren we've met thus far. The other Order Radiants seem to have had access to the sword version of their spren "earlier" in their Oaths/Words than Kal as well, wonder if that's just my reading or if it is accurate in some way.
  22. Yay! I'm useful!
  23. I'm cross posting this here, but this is based on a tidbit from the SF signing...bottom Q/A So Nightblood = Shardblade = Physical form a Spren can take = Splinter of a Shard Does that then mean that Nightblood is a DestroyEvilSpren? That is a serious question btw. He seems to be the Spiritual Ideal of destroying evil given full Sapience to his Cogitive aspect via the Investiture of Breaths. He should also then be a splinter of Endowment in the same way that Rosharian Spren are splinters of Honor/Cultivation. Would a Seon that traveled to Roshar end up in the form of a Shardblade?
  24. I agree they are probably Larkin given that interlude, that they are the same size as the WoB quoted above and it says in the Interlude they were thought extinct with the Scouring of Aimia.... it is interesting that the Stormlight sucking Larkin is chomping on a Bondsmith...
