What has odium been doing?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Stormlight Archive
Where is the source that says splintering is exhausting Moogle? I hadn't seen that before. It's interesting because Odium managed to splinter 2 shards at the same/similar times on Sel, he splintered Honor, but we have no idea about Cultivation and her state. I think his entrapment on Roshar or in the system has everything to do with the Oathpact. I agree that Honor's splintering was after the last Desolation, but before modern day. Could be because of the Recreance causing an imbalance in the Odium/Honor balance of power leading to his splintering... and only now has Odium marshaled his strength to cause the final desolation which will allow him to be free of Roshar and to continue his Shardic splintering/slaughter. Why couldn't Honor and Cultivation team up to splinter Odium? 2 Shards v. 1 would seem to be a no brainer... Also... the 17th Shard aren't the only ones willing to let Roshar burn... -
it is an interesting question... Mostly Nightblood's a "guy" because that is how his voice sounds to those to whom he speaks. I think it plays into the concept of Identity, perception, the Cognitive Realm, and such at a deeper level. When Shashara used the breath to awaken Nightblood... what was her perception of the concept of destruction of evil? Since nightblood is essentially a spren and they are formed by the cognitive ideas of humans. Perhaps if Nalthis had an "amazonian" warrior culture in Hallendren when Nightblood was created, it would be a "she" in tone. Very interesting question!

I agree that it's not unlikely for complex worldbuilders. It is just interesting to me. I also find it interesting that of the 3 I can think of off the top of my head who use waves/music as foundational principles of their universes/worldbuilding that each one is from a different "generation" of writers in the genre as well. I wish I had taken some more physics in school, I feel like it would make me a better (more detailed) reader of Brandon's stories! There are interactions and complexities to his magics that I don't have a foundation to notice or speculate on because my lack of physics knowledge. Which is AWESOME since we're talking about fantasy settings, it speaks volumes to the depths of his thought and writing for his worlds.

Music and rhythm in the Cosmere is definitely a thing, but I think the higher order is that of wave lengths. It makes me think of the Silmarillion beginning where all of creation is ordered by music of the Ainur and Eru (there are some typos in this source). Also if anyone has read the Weis & Hickman Death Gate Cycle, the magics of that setting is based on wave lengths and intersection between the wave of reality and the wave of possibilities. Interesting that multiple very successful authors/series have dealt with this as the concept or foundation principle of the universe.

Kabsal Experiment - you have to see this!!!
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to red032's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here are two relevant threads... Fymatics, the fake Cymatics Symmetry / Cymatics Images (Spoilers (probably)) Fymatics is the first I think and then the 2nd has some cool side by side comparisons. -

Chapter 2 Epigraph: Chapter 39 has the Epigraph talking about Adonalsium... where it came from...? It's unclear if he delved knowledge on Scadrial or sent out "feelers" into the universe Chapter 57 has the Epigraph on Realmatic theory: Chapter 71 epigraph Based on these, I would have to say that you get some basic realmatic/cosmere knowledge, but any larger Cosmere knowledge is not instant and requires some deific research, and looking outside of your own Shardworld of influence. Of course for those who took the Shards initially after the Shattering, i would say they were probably already knowledgeable about the Cosmere prior to the Shattering, or at least picking up of the Shards. For those coming to the Shard's power later like Vin/Sazed etc, it looks like work!

Can you Drop a Shard?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think you'd want to drop the shard once you had taken it up. Maybe since the intent of Ati's shard was "ruin" he was "ruined" to that intent faster than other shards?- 13 replies

the Bondsmiths 3
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Green Hoodie Mistborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, all we have to support the "common" amount of 3 Bondsmiths is an excerpt from an in-world history written a couple of hundred years after the Recreance. Brandon has shown us in the studies of Shallan with Jasnah that historians (much like ancient earth historians) distort history to support cases, so the reliability of the "Words of Radiance" is suspect. But since it's all we ahve to go off at this point, I think it significant that the number 3 was mentioned at all. We don't know that the Stormfather is unique as a spren type. There may be such thing as a "godspren" as a type with each godspren being different blends of Honor/Cultivation (90/10, 50/50, 10/90, or something like that). Each one, though the same type of spren, has "dominion" or guidance over certain areas/other spren. For me, while it could be false correlation, I see the 3 mentioned in the Bondsmith epigraph, and I see 3 "unique" very large, very powerful Spren (Stormfather, Cusciesh, Nightwatcher) and my mind ties them together... only time will tell, much like other theories on the boards. As for the Bondsmith power to alter Nahel bonds... i don't know what thread or evidence originated that, but I assumed it was just an extrapolation of the order name that people were doing. Much like Windrunners "ride the winds", Bondsmiths "forge bonds":- 61 replies

I'm afraid my utensils are stainless steel, not sure they qualify as a "pure" metal for allomantic purposes and I'd hate to hurt her accidentally!? My other option is silver which is allomantically inert. we have plenty of aluminum around with my soda habit though... -

Thanks! She's a joy so far. Having now witnessed it, I would say that birth should be traumatic enough to get someone to snap! I'm pretty sure I took the first and second Windrunner vows after she was born, but I don't have any stormlight to test... So far I've also resisted mixing any metals into her bottles, I don't think momma bear would approve somehow. -
Well I have missed the forums! There are a ton of great topics that I need to catch up on it looks like. Until then, I'd like to introduce everyone to the newest member of the Green Hoodie family and addition to the 17th Shard... Pink Hoodie Mistborn!

Hey everybody! checked out my Kindle Matchbook list today and noticed that both Warbreaker and Mistborn: the Final Empire were available for me to add to my collection. Not that I haven't already purchased the ebook, but still. If anyone else out there wants to grab those 2 for kindle at a very nice price ($2.99 ea) and you've purchased the physical book from Amazon, go check it out! Kindle Matchbook

Szeth is our only point of reference for the "shardplate messes with lashing/surges" and he was NOT a surgebinder. There could be a correlation there. I don't think it does mess with lashing you'd do yourself, only trying to lash others because it is heavily invested. it could be true that current shardplate messes with it because it was invested by someone else, but if the KR start creating their own plate however that is done I doubt that he was pulling stormlight from his plate, I would assume that he carried spheres with him into combat in the same way that normal soldiers did, ones that were not embedded in his plate.

I want to say we saw some Cohesion/Tension surging when he was holding off the claw of the Chasmfiend and also in his mad dash to reach that claw as it's descending. Though those both may have just been a stormlight infused binder in action who is also wearing shardplate! EDIT: Bondsmiths have Tension and Adhesion not cohesion, but either way, there could have been some Tensioning of the shardplate and some full lashing of himself to the ground when the claws were hitting him.

I didn't say that occurence of magic was linked to the creation of the world. I'm sure the worlds were already there. occurrence of the magic is much more likely tied to when the Shard invests itself on the planet and either creates a human population to use the magic or invests the existing humans with their power. Scadrial did have allomancy before TLR, it was just very rare. We also have a WoB stating that Terrismen kept to themselves genetically, which is why they are the only ones to possess it.

This is what I was going to bring to the discussion as well. Vin was picked by Ruin (because of circumstances realted to her bloodline and half-skaa nature). I think as far as Champions of Shard's go, that Vasher isn't Endowment's champion, but Nightblood IS! (semi-tongue in cheek). I do think Nightblood is part of a far reaching plan from Endowment, though Vasher may also be integral to that as well.

I agree with your points though I do have some WoR specific spoiler issues with the thought in general (which I don't like because I like this concept and have had the same thoughts). Read my tag if you want, otherwise just enjoy WoR as you go through it.

That is the presumption, yes. Who else would know to call him "Saze" and about the art? I don't know if we have WoB on it, but it makes sense. note that is a "draft and may change" per the Shardhunt page

Bloodline dilution through hundreds of years lead to no mistborns that anyone on Scadrial is aware of in the AoL stories. Keep in mind what Kelsier says though, there is always another secret! Everyone thought Shan was just a Rioter too... Shardhunt Spoiler

You guys are all presuming that Endowment created the human life on Nalthis. We know that humans exist on worlds that don't have shards. Couple that with the fact that it seems like Endowment and Awakening only showed up on Nalthis a few hundred years before Warbreaker... I don't think Endowment was there before then. I'll bet she moved there because of something else that happened (maybe Odium's attack on Sel?) Now that we've seen a certain sword in a certain other place I really think Hehe... agree!

It's harder to monetize something that is available everywhere like air... If you could come up with a way to make building materials out of the ash on Scadrial though you could probably set up some vertical integration where you managed the supply of both building materials and the construction company. Keep your construction company costs low to outbid other competitors. Probably just end up build the low end tenements that the skaa themselves live in though. Ash building materials probably wouldn't be in high demand on a noble mansion construction project.
