Is it possible to be more windrunners ?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Malatium's topic in Stormlight Archive
My best guess... Kal will have squires as did all Windrunners. Historically squires were young nobles in training to become knights themselves. I would think that since Honorspren are so choosy, they would naturally gravitate to squires of existing Windrunners. So Bridge 4 may quickly become a sourcing ground for new Windrunners with Kaladin just being the first. As more squires become Windrunners and raise up their own squads of squires, then Honorspren can start becoming even more choosy about which of the squires they choose to bond. So there will likely be a fast progression of Windrunners (relatively speaking), that will then slow as the number of bonded Windrunners increases. -
[Shadows of Self Spoilers] The Ars Arcanum
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Zalocx's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My first thought was actually Wax's uncanny shooting talent. I feel like any Steelpusher could deflect bullets, but his unerring accuracy, remarked upon multiple times in the series to me smacked of the same type of "effect" as Kaladin's uncanny spear mastery. As to Wayne and his understanding of people it takes some stretching, but healers require empathy which allows them to "walk in someone else's shoe" and the depth of that undestanding is only increased with time, so if you tie accelerated time with empathy you get Wayne's mental walks through the neighborhood as he picks up an accent and some clothes and suddenly is one of the crowd.- 41 replies

So far, Allomantic pewter seems the most versitile for this. I want to call this more like "hack storing" because you're not really compounding. you're burning a metal to gain an attribute that you can then use to store normally in a metalmind, either at an increased storage rate, or at a "no cost to you" rate. Allomantic pewter would allow you to store strength, speed, and health depending on your metalmind/ferring ability. Tin might be able to help soft compound/hack store wakefulness, mental speed, or memories aside from the obvious of increased senses. Really though these seem like the only two that would allow you to use an enhancement from an allomantic effect to store feruchemically. I tried to find that WoB Moogle, but no search with bloodmaker, gold, pewter, or health had anything related to this concept. there may be other searches I didn't try though.

Well, you know that creatives and intellectuals have always been considered "dangerous" by the establishment... probably on Roshar too

And... BOOM!
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Green Hoodie Mistborn's topic in Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians
Me too, if I had to bet, when they re-release books 1-4, they will all be "vs. the Evil Librarians: <whatever that book's title is>", but The Dark Talent sounds cool still. -
And it is good to just dive right in, have an upvote! I do agree with Oudeis on this though, breath wouldn't be accessible if it were stored in metal. Feruchemy and Surges may too interact in different and specatular ways, but I don't think being able to access stored investiture w/o any noticable effect is going to be one of those ways. Yes, you could use them when they weren't in your body (maybe), but they would still be noticible (probably) when tapped. I think more importantly it would be the near infinite amount of investiture available to a surgebinder who could then store it in a Nicrosil metalmind without taping/storing anything else! Really, the only Feruchemy that would result in visible effects should be speed, strength, health (if you're healing), age... i think. But if you were able to store breaths in something other than a Nicrosil metalmind, tapping them should result in gaining the aura of however many breaths you'd stored... I think.

Amaram's Assassination Attempt
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Patrick Star's topic in Stormlight Archive
Based on things that Sadeas said to Amaram about his honorable act being just that, it seems clear to me that Sadeas knows of some hinky stuff that Amaram has done in the past that would likely be against the law in some way. If Nalan can track Lift across multiple kingdoms and know things about her and Ym, I'm sure he would be able to justly attack and kill Amaram rather than the roundabout way of sending a random Shardbearer to do it in battle. Also there wasn't supposed to be a Shardbearer, it was a complete surprise to all of Amaram's army. I almost wonder if the opposing force knew that they would have one fighting for them either... I also don't think that Nalan worries about staying in a particular kingdom if he needs to be elsewhere, as he was present at Gavilar's assassination, and then shows up on the Shattered Plains to pick up- 10 replies

The Emperor's Soul Quiz
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to scottos's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Warbreaker 6/6 Stormlight Archive 13/13 Elantris 6/7 (missed Rao... I know, I know...) -
Electrum in a vacuum shows you something you were going to do and allows you to change that action. So yes, it shows you what you might do and allows you to change that action. It is the same with Atium/Electrum interplay and Atium2 interplay, except that the possibilities are infinite, and that is what you see. I've always seen it as an unending loop, but processed at the speed of magic and light, so it's so fast that your brain can't comprehend anything but a ton of shadows appearing at once. Maybe if you were burning Atium AND Cadmium at the same time, you could/would see individual shadows appearing on someone on the outside of your bubble. OR if an Electrum burner were for some reason also burning Bendalloy, the Atium burner outside his bubble might see the shadows appearing individually as well. At least that is how I've always interpreted their interplay. Interesting thought experiment with the time bubbles though!

What effect does Hemalugy have on humans?

I actually love that line with Kaladin and Szeth, I cheer a little every time I read it as someone is finally able to make Szeth fight a fair fight!

Well we have WoB that Nightblood = Shardblade though many times more powerful. So if Nightblood = Shardblade, and Shardblade = Spren, then Nightblood should = Spren. I've theorized before that Nightblood is or functions like an artificially created spren created when the Awakeners funneled ~2000 breaths into the sword to create him.

The First Human Voidbinder Will Be…?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
So, the part about pretending is probably OT, I'll admit... it's more likely that he would take the throne in force with his new found power, and turn the kingdom against the fledgling Radiants. Oh, I have hope that Elohkar won't go this route, and I agree he's not ready for it yet. It really depends on what/how Brandon wants to play with fantasy tropes. He's set up family Kholin to basically be the Knights Kholin (and their friends). Usually when you have a bright shiny group like that one of them tends to go bad and "turn to the dark side" (choose your evil side). Elhokar has thus far been presented as the Kholin family weak link, and it's usually the weak link who goes dark because that is the easy way to power. I'm not saying it'll happen next book. it might not happen until the 2nd 5 book arc, but I can fully see Elohkar going to Voidbinding as his character stands right now. Plus, it wasn't that big a leap from Whiny teenage Anakin to "Murder Younglings" Anakin. We've seen what Voidspren can do to a fairly decent an honorable Parshendi, who are but the broth for humans. Who knows what a bound Void Spren would do to a human of weak will/ability like Elhokar? Maybe the Cryptics aren't gone from Elohkar because of Kaladin's presence... Syl has said she seen other spren about of Odium. Maybe that is what is keeping the Cryptics away from Elohkar. I'm just saying, he is the most central character who I see falling to Voidbinding. -
The First Human Voidbinder Will Be…?
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
To reply to the OP on the question though... I think it'll be Elohkar. We know he's been watched by spren, likely Cryptics, so there is potential for "filling in the cracks in his soul" with spren/splinter bonds. I think he'll take a dark turn when all of everyone around him becomes Radiants, even his body guard troupe, and he is still a crappy king. He'll take the easy path to power and will become a very Alethi king in how he exercises that power. To take it further, i wouldn't be surprised if Elohkar turns the tables on Dalinar, surprising him with his new found Voidbinding powers and reverses the scene at the end of tWoK, but without the whole keeping him alive part that Dalinar does for Elhokar. Elhokar "avenges" that slight from Dalinar and takes the kingdom in hand, maybe even fooling the other KR into thinking that he is the new Bondsmith now that Dalinar is dead, maybe not. -
Update on the Steelheart movie
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to WeiryWriter's topic in The Reckoners
I've seen the extended editions multiple times, and there is no Bombadil that I've ever seen. Either way, I'm scared by the adaptation. If they get the right people to develop the script and the right actors a la Marvel... it could be awesome. If they half-chull it expecting peopel to show up for any dystopian superhero film just because... I'm also scared that this will take a ton of time away from Brandon's writing and we'll all end up embittered in the vein of Martin fans... "geez why has it taken him 5 years to write the next SA book? He just spends all his time working on the Steelheart movies." I guess to be fair to Martin, he was having a hard time writing the next SOIAF books even before HBO came along. Ok, I'm less scared of the second, but as there is precedent for both 1) studios ruining movie adaptations of good/decent books, and 2) authors going off the writing rails when their stuff starts getting movie/tv releases... both are scary! -

Honorblades, Shardblades and Fabrials
Green Hoodie Mistborn replied to Lumen's topic in Stormlight Archive
I suppose in the same way that Ruin + Preservation = Harmony, and per WoB they are a single Shard now that they've intermingled, 1000 small parts of Endowment added together in one entity = 1 larger Splinter. In the same way that a Returned are 1 Splinter that gets them to the 5th Heightening (=2000 breaths), Nightblood at his 1000 breath equivalent is half a splinter at least. Looked at in another way, Nightblood = Shardblade (per WoB) = Spren = Splinters of Honor/Cultivation, therefore Nightblood is a Splinter of Endowment as well. As to the Fabrials... yes? We haven't had any indication of Spren communication with users of Fabrials, ancient or modern. Shallan uses the Oathgate which is a giant ancient Fabrial, but even though she is a bonded (almost) Radiant, there is no sense of sentience from any presumably bonded spren in the Fabrial. Navani gives no indication of any spren communication in any of the Fabrials she makes/uses. Nor does Shallan note any sentience in the spanreed she uses to communicate with the Ghostbloods. SIDE NOTE: is anyone else creeped out by the fact that spanreeds and the levitating platform function because the Spren inside was also split in half along with the gem?? Soulcasters use makes users appear inhuman I would argue due to the frequency and amount of use they are put through on a daily basis. In the same way that Flaring metals turns you into a metal Savant which has physical effects, so would overuse of any investiture, probably especially if you're not predisposed/designed to use that investiture form.- 21 replies

Interesting and I like the way it was laid out and stated! I tend to agree with most of your statements, though I'm not sure on implications across the Cosmere. One thought I had, I wonder what kind of ramifications this would have if true for a cross world magic user like Hoid who also has access to Feruchemical Duralumin and possible compounding. I know it helps use local magic systems, but can it make you a more efficient/powerful practitioner of a magic system by helping you more easily switch/change/manipulate those Spiritual connections...

"The sliver remains" is the interesting part of that quote to me. For TLR was called and officially termed by team Brandon as a Sliver. Is the Kandra discussing TLR as the Sliver of Preservation or the Cognitive Shadow left of Leras' mind post imprisonment? Could there possibly be 2 Slivers of the same Shard at the same time?
