  1. Lilac looks at them both. “Why do we have to betray each other?” She laughs, then, loud and clear and bright and cruel. “For entertainment.” She shakes her head. ”To please the masses.” She stops moving, going completely still. ”To preserve power.” And then her voice lowers. “But what of the people who have never had power? What happens to them?” She smiles. ”We’re told we have to betray and kill each other.” And then she frowns. “In order to live. Isn’t that funny? Do you feel alive?” Her voice hardens. ”Because I don’t. I don’t feel alive. Not at all.” And she pauses. ”I want to be alive. I want everyone to be alive.” Her face slowly sets, completely blank. ”And the only way to do that is by killing those in charge.” She turns to Doug and Assah, completely different from the person she had been moment before. “I am not going to betray you. I am not going to kill you. You may do these things to me; I accept it. But if either of you win, remember what I said. Never stop fighting to live. And never stop living. And know that fighting does not mean death, and living does not mean breath.” And then that Lilac is gone, replaced by her usual self. “Guys, don’t fight. Fighting is bad!”

  3. Lilac sticks out a hand to Doug. "Lovely meeting you!"
  4. Lilac pokes her head out of the base. "Hi. Sure! Why not! By the way, it's nice to meet you!" She offers a smile.
  5. Lilac took in her expression, before moving away and sitting against the wall of the base. "I'm sorry. I haven't been... the best person to be around lately." She shook her head. "And I'm still making it about me. Sorry again." She took a deep breath. "I... haven't asked you. How you are. And everything has been. A lot. So... how are you holding up?" She offered a tentative smile.
  6. “But have you actually relied on anyone else?” Lilac asked, voice quiet for a moment. “And if not, then how would you know?” A melancholy smile drifted across her face before she brightened. “Ah, nevermind. Sorry! The cookie is really good.”
  7. Lilac grinned, before quickly hugging Assah. "Are you sure? Because they said that everything came with a price."
  8. Lilac's expression lit up. She looked genuinely touched. "...Thank you." She took the piece of cookie. "Is there anything you need me to do in exchange?"
  9. Lilac shook her head. "It was just me and Mother. I... think my dad died?" Lilac's eyebrows furrowed, as if she was trying to remember something she forgot, before shrugging. "I don't know. My mom doesn't like to talk about it. But she's usually sick. So I try to take care of her most of the time and not bring it up."
  10. Lilac's eyes softened. "Oh. I'm sorry." She tilted her head to the side, for a moment looking like an owl. She paused before continuing. "How often do you think about other districts?"
  11. "Do you have any hobbies?" Lilac asked after an uncomfortably long silence, though she didn't look bothered.
  12. Lilac nodded, and something glinted in her eyes, not unlike sympathy. "The person who knows what they are is sorely mistaken." She offered a hesitant smile. "If it helps... I don't know what I am either."
  13. Lilac's smile fell. "You don't have much family as in you're an only child, or...?"
  14. Lilac looked confused for a moment. "I... remember being told to watch them. And I remember... looking at the TV. But I don't recall the games. So I guess I didn't watch them?" She trails off for a second before shaking her head. "It doesn't matter. Tell me more about yourself!"
  15. Lilac blinked. "Well. I'm sixteen. I've never watched the games. And I grew up in District 11, with my mom." She smiled at the mention of her mother. "What about you?"
  16. Lilac smiled. "I'd like that." She ignored the squirrel. She also sat down. "Do you want to do one question, switching off?"
  17. Lilac watched as Assah stalked the creature. There was something... nice. About having someone you could trust, even if it was only for a little while. Knowing someone was there. No, she did not think that Assah would attack her. She was brutal and vicious, but also worthy of trust, though Lilac wouldn't call her trustworthy. Lilac---or at least, this Lilac---had never been betrayed.
  18. Lilac watches with a strange sort of curiosity as she is pushed aside. It’s easy, sometimes, to be detached. All you have to do is become someone else.
  19. Lilac's expression hardens. "Fine." She steps inside of the base and looks for the squirrel-thing, raising her quarterstaff.
  20. Lilac grimaces. “But… it has feelings too!”
  21. Lilac turns to Assah. “The squirrel thing is still in there. Do we… have to kill it?”
