  1. "Shut up, you monster. Don't pretend to have our interests at heart after that display." "I'd prefer if I held onto the silver knife, thanks," Tinker said. "I need it for my spores."
  2. "If you find any dry wood, I can use Sunlight spores to light it," Tinker said.
  3. @Spark of Hope @WhyEverNot_8 @J. Magi Tinker led them to a dry area that was mostly clear of Verdant vines. "I think this is as good a place to stop as any," he said, gazing at the sky above. It was beautiful. And it reminded him of home. He tried not to think about it.
  4. "It's a silver knife," Tinker said, eyes still forward. "Now I just need some iron and steel..." He tried to ignore the fact that Marewill still held his hand around the silver knife.
  5. Tinker hesitated as Marewill grabbing his hand. Wasn't expecting that. Then he turned and ran, taking her far from where her family had ascended.
  6. Tinker shook himself from the emotion of seeing Marewill's siblings. As vines and spikes started to explode around him, he grabbed the spores and tucked them into a makeshift pocket. "Marewill!" he yelled. "We have to go!" @Spark of Hope
  7. Tinker watched the broadcast in the sky. He noted Marewill's eyes, but didn't say anything. As he watched Marewill's siblings, he felt a pang of homesickness for his own family. His parents, his siblings, his brother-in-law. Why do they torment us like this? he thought. They know most of us will never see our families again. And still they put on this spectacle. They're monsters. Tinker walked over to where Marewill was trying to open the box. He didn't say anything about the broadcast. "Here," he said, placing three or four tiny Verdant spores along one of the thin cracks where the box was fastened together. Then he licked his finger and ran it across the spores, activating them. The small bursts of vines pried the box open. @Spark of Hope @Edema Rue (or whoever's in charge of the box)
  8. Tinker dashed after Marewill across the ground. Around them, spores that hit puddles or areas of water burst into towering vines with frightening speed. The vines spreading across the newly swampy ground added a level of treachery to what was a fairly easy trip the first time around. "Are you sure heading back to the center is the best idea?" Tinker called to Marewill.
  9. @SmilingPanda19 @Ancient Elantrian
  10. "Um...yeah, I can try to return it. I just need something to store the spores in until I get a better container." Though it'll do me little good until I get an actual kit... there's not much I can make with just Verdant. "Okay. I'm good to go."
  11. "We'll be okay," he said. "There's always more supplies." He eyed the falling spores. "Do you have any empty vials?"
  12. Tinker had freed himself from the ground and had torn off the right sleeve of his jumpsuit and used it to tie a mask over his nose and mouth. "Those are Aether Spores," he said, jesturing to the falling motes. "Don't let them touch your nose or mouth; they activate when they touch water." @Edema Rue
  13. Tinker struggled on the ground, trying to get up. His jumpsuit was securely fastened to the glowing ground. What the heck? @Spark of Hope
  14. Tinker dropped his sharp rock and grabbed Quelkin's arms before he could recover, pinning them behind his back. What I wouldn't give for some Verdant right now.
  15. Tinker watched in horror as the sudden exchange in violence began. He'd been lost in thought, and Marewill's sudden leap to her feet, as well as Quelkin's sudden attack, had caught him off guard. He gripped his sharp stone in his hand, but didn't move.

  17. Tinker sighed. "So that's how it is, then." He sat there, thinking. He thought about his family. How much they hadn't wanted him to leave. How wonderful their lives would be if he won... Did I do the right thing...?
  18. "...I don't have as much control in that as you might think. I don't get to decide what the other tributes do. And some of your colleagues seem very eager to get us killed before any of us do any killing. "Also, if you really cared about my 'happiness' in this arena, you'd give me a sizable stash of spores and a kit to use them safely."
  19. Tinker glanced at the wool blanket on the dirty ground. Then he sighed, unrolled it, and placed it over Marewill. "There," he said in a mocking tone, looking at the microphone. "You happy?" @SmilingPanda19
  20. Tinker smirked slightly, then gazed out at the falling rain and thunder.
  21. "Maybe you should sleep. You're the one with a wounded ear."
  22. Tinker read it and sighed. "Someone is trying to set the two of us up. For his own twisted entertainment."
  23. The shifting woke Tinker from his brief nap. He watched Marewill grab the parachute and run back. He frowned, thinking back to what Émeric said. He isn't trying to bribe me, is he? "What do we have?" he asked, sitting up. He noted the bag that had been placed under his head. Did she...
  24. Tinker eyed the knife warily, then remembered what Marewill had said about honor. I hope this isn't the most stupid choice of my life. He closed his eyes and leaned back, listening to the rumble of thunder and the rain on the tree.
