  1. Meanwhile, Bookwyrm appeared on a distant world. @Nameless
  2. Pretty close. I said "What if I type English in Greek again?" I just set my keyboard to Greek and then typed. Strangely, on the Greek keyboard, the letter Q goes to ;, and : when capitalized.
  3. Σηατ ηαππενσ ιφ Ι τυπε Ενγλιση ιν Γρεεκ αγαιν?
  4. Wait....why have I not posted here yet?! I am the oldest of six children. It's nice. I like it. ....It's also really annoying at times. I'll probably occasionally use this thread to talk about the weird things my siblings do. (Including a 2 year old making dad jokes, baked apples that are actually knees, and some other things.)
  5. This is me with too many games. Chess included. But I digress. This is a chess thread, not a "my younger siblings can do things better than me" thread. ....Does anyone know of some interesting obscure chess rules or strategies?
  6. I like chess. I'm not good at it, but I like it. (...That said, I somehow won a fair number of the last few games I've played. That was also at least a month ago.)
  7. Welcome to the Shard! I am the friend that Insanity speaks of. She eventually succumbed to my expert persuasion methods. (Which mostly involved bothering her about it until she read Mistborn.) We're glad you're here!
  8. Which was fine. TLT had broken many, many pages ago.
  9. I like free will. I have it. And yet, at the same time, the future already exists...
  10. All right. I need to give an update on the conversion of my peers to Sanderson fandom.

First, my close friend. I've given SU's in the past that chronicle her reading of Mistborn. She has since finished that series, read Mistborn: Secret History, also read Warbreaker, and is now in the opening chapters of The Way of Kings.

She has also, within the last half hour or so, made an account on the Shard. So, if you'd like, give a welcome shoutout to @InfiniteInsanity!

(I think she's disappointed in me that I decided to call so much attention to her.)

    On other topics:

I have a friend that, for whatever reason, was sitting near me on the bus ride back to our home high school from the focus program both of us attend. He is a nerd, very clearly, but not really about fantasy. I was bored, and I don't even know how it started, but I began ranting about Cosmere magics. I eventually gave a relatively in-depth explanation of Allomancy, including many spoilery things involving the later discovered metals, and thought nothing of it, because he was never going to read the books anyway.

He went home and conducted a very in depth personal research on the Metallic Arts.

He has now finished the first book of Mistborn and is on the second, though unfortunately, and mostly because I was careless enough to give a spoilery explanation, he knows almost all of the major plot twists because of his own online research. Still, I count it as a win. He is fascinated with the Mistborn Adventure game, and is converting some of his own friends to it because he wants to play it with them. Today I saw one of his friends (who reads at an alarming pace) holding a copy of The Final Empire today. So that's good.

I have a friend that I got to read The Way of Kings, though she doesn't have access to Words of Radiance, and brings that up angrily whenever I pester her about getting around to reading it. One of her friends has also read The Way of Kings, though I think that friend discovered it prior to me ranting about it.

I've gotten one other person to read Steelheart, and that person is currently in the middle of Firefight. There are one or two other people who have read other Sanderson books, whether because of me or for other reasons.

So yes, slowly but surely, I am converting the world around me to the epicness that is Brandon Sanderson.

  11. .....Is there a specific reason you bring this up?
  12. That Day had found an alternate form of transportation in a skateboard, but it was taking a while.
  13. Bookwyrm walked over to it and crouched down slightly, so that it's eye level was above his own. "What are you? And what are you doing here?" Bookwyrm asked. He had the impression that the creature somehow understood him.
  14. Bookwyrm slowed his pace and stopped. He turned and looked into the woods to where he had felt the presence. "Hello there," he said in a friendly voice.
  15. Indeed, Bob's own destructive hunger caused his own downfall. He fell into a food coma.
  16. @CalanoCorvus @The Wandering Wizard Bookwyrm continued walking along the edge of the forest. As he walked along the edge of the forest, his nervousness faded. The sense of danger that Wizard sent to him floated to the back of his mind as the calming aura of the dimension filled him. He was wary of that. Bookwyrm was unable to tell if this was because there wasn't actually any danger, or if the dimension was influencing his emotions. Just in case, he burned Copper, to try to negate any emotional effects. He didn't feel any immediate changes. On a whim, Bookwyrm tried to send a mental message to Calano, Emma and Wizard about what he was doing, but he was only able to send a vague approximation of his location. The least I can do is send them periodic status updates, Bookwyrm thought. If for some reason I don't give a mental ping, they'll know something is wrong.
  17. I recently started a book called The First Binding, by R. R. Virdi. The research I've done online tells me that it's supposedly really good, and compared it to The Name of the Wind and even The Stormlight Archive. Has anyone else here read it, and can they testify about how good the book supposedly is?
  18. Fadran? Skyward Sword was my favorite before it came out on the Switch. And I like it for nostalgic reasons. The feel of it is just really nice, and I like the story and the lore. I'm not saying it's the best, because there are certainly better. But it's my favorite. I liked Skyward Sword before it was cool on the Switch! I played a lot of that game in my much, much younger years. (...This is ironic because right now I can hear my younger brother playing the Skyloft theme on his saxophone upstairs.)

  20. As Bookwyrm transited the distance between universes, a faint impression came to him. Bookwyrm recognized it as coming from Wizard. A sense of danger. Bookwyrm exits the Wyrmhole in a grassy field. Behind him, there is a forest. Flowers bloom in the field beyond him, which stretches for many miles until reaching a beautiful mountain range. The forest has common birds and squirrels in it. Earth life, though there could be other, more unique species hiding deeper in. Their chirping and chattering has a soothing effect, contrasting strongly with the danger that Wizard had impressed upon him moments before. The sky is a clear, brilliant blue, with a few wisps of clouds in the sky above. Strangely, there is no sun, but there is an ambient light and warmth that bathes the world. A quick mental scan tells Bookwyrm that the portal entrance is beyond the mountain range. Maybe this universe was a little bigger than I thought, Bookwyrm thinks. He pulls out a vial of metals and downs it quickly, and checks a few of his other magic systems, in case danger strikes. But surprisingly, this world connected to the Prison seems unnaturally peaceful. I wonder if anyone lives here, Bookwyrm thinks. Stormwinds, I wish I had gotten Wizard's full message. It's making me uneasy. I can't as well go back now, can I? Bookwyrm slowly begins walking along the forest towards the mountain range, wary of the beautiful world around him. @CalanoCorvus
